Create a collage in the Photoshop “The death of the era of dinosaurs”

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a ‘Doom Era of Dinosaurs’ scene in Photoshop.

This lesson refers to the average level of difficulty, so some steps may be difficult, but why not try it!

Note: This lesson is done in Photoshop CС – so some screenshots may differ slightly from previous versions of the program. Some brushes are only available in this version of Photoshop CS6 or higher.

OK. Let’s get started!

The final result:

Step 1

Create a new document with the following dimensions 1400 px * 793 px, background color is black. Open the original image ‘Landscape 1’ in Photoshop. Select the next image fragment, as shown in the screenshot below.

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) highlighted image on our working paper.

Place the added piece of land at the bottom of our working paper.

Using a soft eraser, shade the top edge of the image of the earth, as shown in the screenshot below.

Apply the following adjustment layers to the ground layer as clipping masks.

Step 2

Once again open the original image ‘Landscape 1’ in Photoshop. This time select a fragment of the sky:

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) highlighted fragment of the sky on our working paper. Using a large-sized soft eraser, delete individual areas of the sky, as shown in the screenshot below:

Apply the following adjustment layers to the sky layer as clipping masks.

Black-white (Black and White).

The result of the current lesson:

With a brush Clouds, Add a cloud effect over the ground, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 3

Open the original image ‘Landscape 2’ in Photoshop. Select the mountain, which is located on the right side of the image.

Copy / paste the selected fragment of the mountain onto our working paper. Place the mountain on the right side of our scene. Using a soft eraser, shade the edges to align the mountain with the entire scene:

Apply the following adjustment layers to the mountain layer as a clipping mask.

Black-white (Black and White).

Levels (Levels)

The result of the current lesson:

Repeat the previous process, add another mount. Place it on the left side of the scene:

Using the Clouds brush, add the effect of the clouds around the mountains that we just added:

Step 4

Open the original image ‘Dinosaur 1’ in Photoshop. Move the dinosaur image to our working paper.

Position the dinosaur as shown in the screenshot below:

Apply the following adjustment layers to this dinosaur layer as clipping masks.

Black-white (Black and White).

Levels (Levels)

Open the original image ‘Dinosaur 2’ in Photoshop. Separate the dinosaur image from the background.

Place the dinosaur on the left side of our scene, as shown in the screenshot below:

Apply the following adjustment layers to this dinosaur layer as clipping masks.

Black-white (Black and White).

Levels (Levels)

The result of the current lesson:

Add one more same dinosaur. Arrange it as shown in the screenshot below:

Draw clouds around dinosaurs:

Step 5

Once again, open the original image ‘Landscape 2’ in Photoshop. This time, select a fragment of the foot of the mountain:

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) selected fragment of the image of the mountain on our working paper. Using a soft eraser, hide certain parts of the mountain fragment, as shown in the screenshot below, to combine this part of the image with the entire scene:

Apply the following adjustment layers to this mountain image layer as clipping masks.

Black-white (Black and White)

Step 6

In this step, we will add fire effects to our scene. Open the original image with the Fire texture in Photoshop. Select the bottom of the Fire texture.

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) selected fragment of the texture of Fire on our working paper. Apply scaling by placing a piece of fire on the mountain. Change the blending mode for the fire effect layer to Lightening (Screen):

Select small fragments of fire on the image with the texture of Fire:

Copy / paste the selected fire particles onto our working paper. Change the blending mode for the fire particle layer to Lightening (Screen), place fire particles around the dinosaur:

I added more small fragments of fire to the whole scene.

Step 7

Open the original image with the planet in Photoshop, then select the image of the planet. Copy / paste the selected image of the planet onto our working paper. Position the planet in the center of our scene.

Using a soft eraser, shade the bottom of the planet image, as shown in the screenshot below.

Apply the following adjustment layers to the planet layer as clipping masks.

Black-white (Black and White)

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Step 8

We can add a simple meteor effect to our scene. Draw a small white dot on the sky.

With a brush Clouds, draw the tail at the meteor, as shown in the screenshot below – adjust the scale and the angle of the tail using the free transformation tool.

Repeat the whole process, add another meteor to our scene.

Step 9

We have almost completed the lesson! As final touches, we can create a merged layer, then duplicate the merged layer, and then apply the filter Edge emphasis (Accented Edges) to duplicate the merged layer:

Add a layer mask to the duplicate merged layer. Process the image on the layer mask with a soft black brush (the processing area is shown in red in the screenshot below):

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

To color-correct the entire image, I used a couple of adjustment layers:

Color Balance (Color Balance).

So, we have completed the lesson! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it was useful for you. See you, have a nice day!
