Create a fascinating scene with a warrior in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a colorful scene with a warrior in Photoshop. We use various elements of the scene, such as mountains, castle, add fire effects, as well as the image of the warrior to complete the picture. So let’s get started!

This lesson is of medium difficulty, therefore, some actions may be difficult.

Note: This lesson is done in Photoshop CС – so some screenshots may differ slightly from previous versions of the program. Some brushes are only available in this version of Photoshop CS6.

The final result:

Step 1

Create a new document with the following dimensions 1440 px * 800 px, background color is black. From the sky image set, select the following image, which is shown in the screenshot below. Select only part of the image with the sky.

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) highlighted image of the sky on our working paper. Apply the following adjustment layers, which should be placed on top of the sky layer.

Black-white (Black and White). Decrease Opacity (opacity) for this adjustment layer up to 80%.

Levels (Levels)

Zoom into the sky as shown in the screenshot below, so we will create the background for our scene:

Step 2

Open the original image with the mountains in Photoshop. Highlight the next part of the mountain image, and then copy / paste (Copy / Paste) selection on our working paper:

To the mountain layer, add an adjustment layer. Black and white (Black and White).

Using a soft eraser, process the edges of the mountain image to align it with the background:

Step 3

Open the original image with a lock in Photoshop. Select the part of the image of the castle.

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) highlighted part of the castle on our working paper. Apply the following adjustment layers to the layer with the lock.

Black-white (Black and White)

Levels (Levels)

Position the lock as shown in the screenshot below:

Using a soft eraser, process the bottom of the image of the castle to align the castle with the mountain:

Repeat the process of adding a lock, add more images of the locks to our scene. Don’t forget to vary the opacity of the layers with the locks to add depth of field to our scene:

Step 4

Open the original image with the warrior in Photoshop. Highlight the image of the warrior and then copy / paste (Copy / Paste) on our working paper. Place the image of the warrior in the lower right part of the scene, as shown in the screenshot below.

To the warrior layer, add the following adjustment layers as clipping masks.

Black-white (Black and White)

Step 5

Using the Grunge brush, paint a red grunge effect on the warrior.

We will give the warrior the effect of blood, and this will create a dramatic effect, as shown in the screenshot below.

Next, using the Fractals brushes, draw the effects of fractals around the warrior image:

Step 6

Open the original image with sparks in Photoshop. Select a part of the image as shown in the screenshot below.

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) highlighted part of the image with sparks on our working paper. Zoom out as shown in the screenshot below.

Using a soft eraser, process part of the image as shown in the screenshot below.

Activate the tool Free transformation (free transform tool (Ctrl + T)), right-click on the transformation area and in the appeared window select the option Deformation (Warp). Warp the image with sparks, as shown in the screenshot below.

Change the blending mode for the spark layer to Lightening (Screen):

Add an effect with sparks around the warrior, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 7

Using tool Lasso (Lasso tool), in the settings of this tool, set the value Feathering (feather) 40 px, highlight the following fragment in the image with sparks:

Copy / paste the selected part of the image with sparks on our working paper. Change the blending mode for the spark layer to Lightening (Screen). Add a spark effect around the image of the castle.

Step 8

We have almost completed the lesson! As a final touch, I applied a filter. Clouds (cloud) to our scene:

Using the Grunge brush, draw an abstract pattern on the warrior’s image:

Selective action: using the Particle brush, add a particle effect to our scene:

Result at the moment lesson.

Finally, I applied a couple of adjustment layers. Color Balance (color balance) and Hue / Saturation (hue / saturation) to add color shades to our picture. You can see the final result in the screenshot below:

So, we have completed the lesson! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it was useful for you. See you, have a nice day!
