What will we create?

First of all, we will create a dark gloomy atmosphere with the help of a landscape, the moon and clouds. Next we will add mountains to the scene, and you will learn how to create a surreal mountain landscape. After that, add terrible trees to the landscape, and you will learn how to fit them into the scene in less than a few minutes. Then we will add a model, a lamp, birds, and also create light and shadow to make the picture more realistic. In the final, we will work with corrective layers. To work you need Photoshop CS5 or a newer version.

Step 1

To get started, download all the source materials and save them for convenience in a separate folder. Next, create a new document. File> New (File> New) (Ctrl + N) with the parameters listed below.

Step 2

Insert the image of the mountain landscape through the menu File> Place (File> Post). We use the command To place, because with this command, the program automatically puts the image as a smart object.

Step 3

Add a layer mask to the landscape layer by clicking on the icon Add layer mask (Add layer mask) at the bottom of the layers panel. Choose soft round Brush(Brush) black and go over it on the layer mask as shown below.

Step 4

Next, add an adjustment layer. Layer>NewAdjustmentLayer>Hue/Saturation(Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Hue / Saturation), then click on the icon shown in the image below to create a clipping mask. Specify Hue(Color tone) 0, Saturation(Saturation) -47, Lightness (Brightness) -52. Now select the layer with the landscape and the adjustment layer, hold down the Shift key and group them by pressing (Ctrl + G). Name this group The foundation.

Step 5

Now, place an image of the sky in the file and place it under a layer with a mountain landscape.

Step 6

Add adjustment layer Layer>NewAdjustmentLayer>Curves (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Curves) to the layer with the sky and set the parameters as shown below.

Here is the result.

Step 7

Add adjustment layer Layer>NewAdjustmentLayer>Hue/Saturation (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Hue / Saturation) for the sky layer and set the following parameters Hue(Color tone) 0, Saturation(Saturation) -48, Lightness (Brightness) -42 as shown below.

Step 8

Now place the image of the moon above the layer with the sky, as shown below.

Step 9

Add a layer mask to the Moon layer and erase the blue clouds with a black brush, as shown below on the layer mask.

Step 10

Add an adjustment layer for the moon layer Layer>NewAdjustmentLayer > Hue/Saturation(Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Hue / Saturation). Set the following parameters Hue(Color tone) 0, Saturation(Saturation) -100, Lightness (Brightness) -18.

Step 11

Next, create a correction layer for the moon. Layer>NewAdjustmentLayer>Exposure (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Exposure). All layers with the moon group in Moon.

Step 12

The result at the moment should be.

Step 13

We created a dark atmosphere, and now it’s time to add an image of the mountains. Place image Mountain 1 below group The foundation and activate the free transformation mode by pressing (Ctrl + T). Then right-click and select Warp tool (Deformation). Change the shape of the image as shown in the picture.

Here is the result

Step 30

This is what we have now. The layer panel should look like this:

Step 31

Place image Mountain 4 below image Mountain 1 and change its size. You should have a similar result, as shown in the image.

Step 32

Add a layer mask to the image. Mountain 4 and using a black soft brush, erase the sky and soften the lower edge of the mountains.

Step 33

Set the blending mode of the last mountain layer to Multiply(Multiply) and add adjustment layers for it Hue/Saturation(Hue / Saturation) and Photo filter (Photo Filter) with color # 055ae5.

Step 34

Here is the result.

Step 35

Now on the new layer draw shadows on the mountains. The arrows show where to do it. Take soft Brush (Brush) with Opacity(Opacity) 30%, Flow(Press) 30% and start drawing the shadows as shown in the figure with arrows. How to finish, combine all the layers of the mountains into one group The mountains.

Step 36

In this step we will draw a fog. To get started, download Brush Smoke and create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N), then draw a fog. In this step, two layers are used for fog. Combine both layers Fog.
