Create a person in water in Photoshop

In this tutorial, Jennifer Cirpici will explain how to create a shape from the water using a photo.

Water is a complex element when combining images, but this lesson will prove that it is not as difficult as it looks. You will learn how to achieve amazing results using basic techniques of combining, including the technique of creating light and shadows, as well as creating a focal point using a gradient.

The effects of this lesson are often used in advertising drinks or perfumes, because water represents freshness, purity, and thirst quenching.

Step 1

In order to transform the image of the model into a figure from the rain, we need to get rid of the model’s body, leaving only her clothes. First duplicate the original image with the model by pressing the keys (Ctrl + J) or go Layer- Duplicate Layer (Layer> Duplicate). Turn off the visibility of the layer with the original image of the model. Using tool Pen (Pen tool (P), create a selection around the model’s abdomen, and also select a part of the hand. Zoom in so that you can create a selection. Next, right-click on the selected area and in the window that appears, select the option To form a selected area (Make Selection). Next, we will perform an inversion. Without removing the active selection, go Selection – Inversion (Select> Inverse) or press the keys (Ctrl + Shift + I). Now the entire image is highlighted with the exception of the abdomen area. To the layer with the model, add a layer mask through the bottom toolbar.

Step 2

Now, select most of the rain texture, then copy / paste the selected part of the texture onto a new layer. Place the rain texture layer below the model layer. Name this layer дождя Texture of rain on the belly ’.

Position the texture so that it is within the area that was cut. Next, go to the layer layer mask with the model by clicking on it with the mouse button. Next, go Selection – Load Selection (Select> Load Selection), and then perform an inversion to select only the abdominal area.

Next, go to the layer дождя Texture of rain on the stomach ’, go Selection – Transform Selection (Select> Transform Selection), slightly zoom the selection. Copy / paste the selected texture over the model layer. Swipe with a tool Eraser (Eraser tool (E) and soft Brushes (soft brush).

Repeat Step 2 for the remaining body fragments of the model. You can remove the skin and hair of the model by highlighting the contour and filling the selected area with black color on the layer mask. If you have difficulty copying body fragments using a duplicate of a layer with a model, then use the original layer with the model with which we started the lesson.

Step 3

Next, correct the jeans of the model, where her left hand hides part of the jeans texture.

Select the area on the right leg of the jeans, and then copy / paste into a new layer on top of the model layer. Using tool Eraser (Eraser tool), gently hold the combination. Copy / paste / paste the alignment several times to achieve the best result.

You also need to correct the reflection of the model’s foot on the floor: copy a small section of the floor, and then paste it over the reflection, and then use the eraser to align it.

Step 4

To fix the skin areas that are visible on the edges of the model’s blouse, select a soft brush, brush size 70px, then set the blending mode for this brush to Saturation (Saturation) and using a customized brush, paint over the skin areas that need to be corrected. When staining, skin tones are replaced by gray / dark shades.

Step 5

Now we need to recreate ‘skin’ with water. First, duplicate the original layer with the model (the lowest layer) and use the tool Brush (Brush tool (B), brush size 3px, draw on top of a duplicate line layer. Graphics tablet will help here a lot, because with a mouse it is very difficult to get the necessary pressure.

Step 6

To make the shadows on the model’s body more visible, duplicate the original layer with the model, convert it to neutral gray tones, apply a filter Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur), and then lower the layer opacity to 24%. Next, duplicate this layer. You should have it, as in the screenshot below.

Step 7

Next, we add the texture of the water to the skin; See stock resources for the selection of suitable images and textures. If the background in your image is not black and white, then invert the image Image – Correction – Inversion (Image> Adjustments> Invert) or press keys (Ctrl + I) for quick alignment. Reduce the saturation of the image so that the water texture is made in neutral gray, slightly lighten the water texture, and then change the blending mode to Lightening (Screen).

Step 8

Remove the background in the original image so that only splashes are visible. Place the spray somewhere on the skin of the model to get the result, as in the screenshot below.

Step 9

Add more splashes of water, repeating Steps 7 and 8 several times. Do not overdo it with water, though: if you cannot clearly distinguish individual parts of the body, then duplicate areas with a shadow, see Step 6. Conversely, if the body is too prominent in certain places, then treat them with an eraser to get a more transparent state . In the end, you should have it, as in the screenshot below.

Step 10

Next, go Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Color Balance (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Color Balance), add some blue shades, and for brightness some yellow shades. Reduce the opacity of this adjustment layer to 50%. The image should be brighter, so play with Brightness / Contrast (Brightness / Contrast), Curves (Curves) and Levels (Levels).

Step 11

Create a new layer. Choose a tool Gradient (Gradient tool (G), gradient type Radial (radial) Using this gradient, create a radial glow in the part of the picture where you would like to attract the attention of the observer. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (Soft Light), layer opacity 24%; This will create a rather gentle effect.

Step 12

On some areas around the edges of the image of the model, you need to add shadows, so create a new layer, then paint the edges with a black soft brush, approximately 60px opacity, ideally using a tablet. Change the blending mode to Soft light (Soft Light), and also reduce the opacity of the layer. Next, with the tool Finger (Smudge), smear the lines so that the lines are less rigid. To make the lines on the face of the model more visible, paint over them with a white hard brush with an opacity of about 40% and pressing about 70%.

Finally, let’s go Image – External Channel (Image> Apply Image), and then go Filter – Blur – Motion Blur (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur) and just add a slight blur in motion. Reduce the layer opacity to about 30%. And we have completed the lesson!
