In this lesson you will learn how to combine a charming girl with an abstract background that we create.
Open the stock image of the model, separate the girl from the background. Each has its own way of selecting objects. I usually use the tool Fast selection (Quick Selection Tool) including option Specifythe edges(Refine Edges). In the screenshot below, you can see which settings I often use for the option Refine edges (Refine Edges), but keep in mind that the settings change depending on the image.
As you can see, the option Refine edges (Refine Edges) helps to create a better selection. There is no need to perfectly distinguish the hair, because we will fix it later.
So we have to work on hair and skin. Install Hair brushes (these are approximate brushes, but you can use the ones you like).
Now, we have to apply the tool Finger(Smudge tool), Intensity (Strength) set between 85% and 95%. Using Hair Brushes, brush your hair as if you were combing it. Do not overdo it, otherwise, the hair will not look realistic.
To keep the skin smooth, select the tool again. Finger (Smudge Tool), this time use a soft round brush. Intensity (Strength) set to about 12%. Set the average size of the brush and smear the skin with circular movements, as shown in the screenshot below. When you are satisfied with the result, the work with the model’s retouch can be considered complete.
Open the stock image with the background, move the image onto our document, placing it below the model layer. Apply a transform (CTRL + T) according to the scene.
So, we need to strengthen the background. To do this, double-duplicate the layer with the background, for the first duplicate, set the blending mode Multiplication (Multiply), and for the second Lightening (Screen), reduce layer opacity to 80%.
Create a new layer below the model layer. Choose a soft brush, set the brush color to white. Paint over the girl with a brush, creating a slight glow. Next, change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (Soft Light).
Now, we will perform color correction using correction layers to combine the images together.
one. Black and white (Black White): Click the button Auto (Auto). Install Opacity and Fill (Opacity / Fill) for this adjustment layer by 80%.
2 Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation): Everything (Master) (Saturation Saturation -12); Red (Red) (Saturation Saturation +28).
3 Color Balance (Color Balance): Shadows (Shadows (-4 0 +9), Mid tones (Midtones (-16 0 13), Sveta (Highlights (-5 0 +9).
We need to add some light. I used 3 layers, which are presented below. The dark background in the screenshots below to the left of the images – I did it especially for you, so that you could clearly see what I did, so do not reproduce the dark background!
1. I drew the light settings for the layer: blending mode Soft light (Soft Light), Opacity and Fill (Opacity / Fill) 80%. (White color).
2. I drew the light settings for the layer: blending mode Soft light (Soft Light), Opacity and Fill (Opacity / Fill) 70% (color shade # ced4e6).
3. Another layer overlay mode for this layer. Soft light (Soft Light), but the opacity of the layer is 100%. As you can see, color shades range from white to # bfc4da.
Open the texture with watercolors, then move the texture to our document, placing it on top of all layers. Decrease saturation, change the blending mode of the texture layer to Soft light (Soft Light), Opacity and Fill (Opacity / Fill) 70%. Since we don’t want the texture to be visible on the girl, so add a layer mask to the texture layer. Select a black brush with low opacity and paint over the girl to hide the texture (make sure you are on the layer mask and not on the girl layer).
Open the texture with Clouds, then move the texture to our document, placing it on top of the three layers with the background. Next, change the blending mode to Soft light (Soft Light), Opacity and Fill (Opacity / Fill) 80%.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the transition line is visible, which we need to delete. Just like we did in the previous step, add a layer mask to the cloud layer. select a soft round brush of black color and paint over the layer mask with a brush to create a smooth transition. In the screenshot below, you can see where I draw with a black brush and the result at the moment.
I made some more corrections. (on top of all layers).
one. Vibration (Vibrance): Vibration (Vibrance) +85; Saturation (Saturation) -7
2 Curves (Curves): I reduced the color a little green.
3 Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) to give a contrast: Saturation (Saturation) to -100 and change the blending mode to Soft light (Soft Light). Then duplicate this adjustment layer (CTRL + J), and then reduce the opacity of the duplicate to 50%. The result is below.
Let’s add some cosmetics.
Create a new layer, set the blending mode. Soft light (Soft Light). Set the brush color # 314270 and paint on the eyelashes of the girl and the lower part of the eyelids.
Create a new layer, set the blending mode. Overlap (Overlay), layer opacity 75%. Set the brush color # 314270 and paint the upper areas of the eyelids.
Create a new layer, set the blending mode. Soft light (Soft Light) to create blush. Brush color set to # 314270.
Open the texture of the Sequin, the texture can be seen in the screenshot below. Move the texture to our document. Add a layer mask to the texture layer and delete the extra areas with the black brush.
Change the blending mode for the texture layer to Soft light (Soft Light), Opacity (Opacity) 80% and Fill (Fill) 75%.
Create two more adjustment layers.
one. Levels (Levels)
2 Curves (Curves)
Now a very important step: Lightening and Dimming (Dodge and Burn). Create a new layer, fill it with 50% gray, go Editing – Fill – 50% gray (Edit> Fill> 50% Gray). Change the blending mode to Overlap (Overlay). So we can add chiaroscuro. In the screenshot below, you can see where I applied this tool.
To create shadows, I usually use the tool Dimmer(Burn Tool), with settings Range (Range) Mid tones (Midtones), Exposure (Exposure) between 10% and 20%. To create light, I use the tool Clarifier(Dodge Tool) with the same settings as for the tool. Dimmer (Burn Tool). Where you see white parts or segments, it means that I painted light highlights. I used the tool Clarifier (Dodge Tool) with settings Range (Range) Sveta (Highlights) Exposure (exposure) between 6% and 15%. The size of the brush varies, it depends on the area of staining.
You can see that this action greatly transforms the image, so be careful!
Create another adjustment layer Curves (Curves) in settings Styles (Curves) select the Linear Contrast RGB option.
Last step. Create a new layer, set the blending mode. Soft light (Soft Light), layer opacity set to 85%. Choose a large soft brush and draw a vignette around the image. In the screenshot below, you can see where I applied the brush (the white background in the screenshot is shown in order to show the scope of the brush).
