In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a photo manipulation Rainy day in Photoshop. First we will create a rainy atmosphere using a stock field image, and then add a rain effect to the scene. After that we will add the model, and then using various overlay methods we will make it part of the scene. You will also learn how to paint rain and water drops with a brush in Photoshop.

Add a field
Step 1
Create a new document in Photoshop via the menu File> New (File> New) and specify the following values or select your own settings.
Step 2
Through the menu File> Place Embedded (File> Place Inline) Place Image Field in the main document. Now activate the free transform mode (CTRL + T), and then resize the image as shown below. You can scale the image at your discretion. See image below.
Step 3
Now add the effect of moisture on the field so that it becomes wet. To do this, duplicate the layer Field, pressing CTRL + J.
Now go to menu Filter> Filter Gallery> Plastic Wrap (Filter> Filter Gallery> Cellophane packaging) and apply a filter with the following values. Don’t forget to experiment with the settings, maybe it will give you even better results.
Below is the result:
Step 4
Change duplicate overlay mode to Overlay (Overlap) c Opacity (Opacity) 100%.
Step 5
Add a mask to the layer Field copy, clicking the second icon at the bottom of the panel Layers (Layers). Using a simple soft black brush on the layer mask Field copy fill the area highlighted in red because I don’t want to have a filter effect Plastic wrap (Cellophane packaging) and high contrast in this part of the sky.
In addition, we will create a light effect there so that later this part can be connected to another part of the image.
Do not worry about the left part of the image, we will close it with a model with an umbrella.
Step 6
It is time for basic background adjustments. Go to menu Layer> New Adjustment> Curves (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Curves) and Add Adjustment Layer Curves (Curves). Now change the channel settings Red (Red) and Blue (Blue):
Result:
Step 7
The scene is too bright and I do not like it. Add adjustment layer again Curves (Curves) and this time reduce the brightness using the RGB channel.
On the mask of the adjustment layer, erase the effect on the right side and leave on the light one. Use a soft round black brush to remove the correction effect in the area highlighted in red.
Result with blackout:
Step 8
Add adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) and reduce Saturation (Saturation) to -41.
Result:
Layer Layout in the Panel Layers (Layers)
Add a model
Step 9
Separate the model from the background and place it in the main document.
Step 10
To create the effect of moisture on the model, apply the same filter as for the field. Duplicate layer Model, and then apply the filter Plastic wrap (Cellophane packaging), but this time change the settings.
Decrease Opacity (Opacity) layer Model up to 43%. Below you can see the result:
Add texture Rain 1
Step 11
Place Rain textureone into the main document and make it a clipping mask for the layer Model.
Step 12
Add a mask to this one. textureRain 1 and mask the umbrella area. Use a soft black brush and hide the selection on texture Rain 1.
Change the blending mode texture Rainone on SoftLight (Soft light).
Step 13
Select all the layers with the model and merge their group by pressing Ctrl + G. Now change the blending mode of this group with Normal (Normal) on Pass through (Skip).
Now create an adjustment layer. Curves (Curves) inside the group, use the following settings to match the color of the model to the background.
Result
Step 14
Continue to color the model using the adjustment layer Color balance (Color Balance), change only the parameters Midtones (Mid Tones) and Highlights (Sveta).
Result:
Step 15
Add adjustment layer Curves (Curves) and reduce the brightness of the model, since at the moment it looks too bright.
On the mask of the adjustment layer, erase the effect on the right side, leaving it light. You can mask the effect in the area highlighted in red with a medium sized soft black brush.
Result after erasing the effect:
Layer Layout in the Panel Layers (Layers):
Add a texture Rain 2
Step 16
Place Rain texture2 into the main document and change the blending mode to Screen (Screen). To change the direction of the rain from right to left, I reflected the texture to the left. You can flip the texture to the right or you can position it straight. Below you can see the rain effect:
Step 17
Add an adjustment layer as a clipping mask. Levels (Levels) for a layer texture Rain 2.
Now drag the black slider to the right and reduce the visibility of the falling raindrops. The more you move the black slider to the right, the less visible the raindrops will be. See the following settings:
Result:
Add a splash of water 1 and 2
Step 18
Using images Splash of water 1 and 2, I created raindrops around the model. I used a lot of layers and on each one I changed the layer blending mode. Screen (Screen). I’m not going to tell you how I did this effect, because I already shared this technique in the Strelok lesson
Step 19
Now we will make the raindrops falling on the model and the umbrella by drawing them. To do this, create a new layer and name it. Drawn drops. Take a hard round brush and press F5, to open the brushes panel. Now change the settings Scattering (Scattering), as shown below.
Using a 1px white brush, Opacity (Opacity) and Flow (Pressure) thirty%, I drew a few more drops of water on my arm, around my shoulder, and at the top of the umbrella.
Final correction
Step 20
Create an adjustment layer Color lookup (Color Search) on top of all layers and increase the contrast using the file Bleach bypass.
Decrease Opacity (Opacity) to 42%, it will make a softer effect Color lookup (Color Search).
Step 21
Create a new layer and name it. Shine. Set foreground color # 4E5137 and make a large stroke with a soft round brush. You can see where I made a brush stroke.
Change the blending mode to Color dodge (Lightening basics) and reduce Opacity (Opacity) to 46%.
Step 22
Click ALT + CTRL + SHIFT + E, to merge all layers into one layer. Use the tool Clone stamp (Stamp) in order to hide the legs of the model in the grass. See how I did it.
Step 23
Finally, change the color of the whole scene with the help of correction. Color balance (Color Balance. Change only Midtones (Mid Tones):
Final result:
Layer Layout in the Panel Layers (Layers)
