Recently I saw the movie “The Beginning” in the cinema and was shocked by the huge work done. And I wanted to create the same effect using only Photoshop and make a lesson for you.
In this tutorial, I will show you the techniques I used to create the final image. Some steps may be a little more difficult, but why not try it!
Here is the final image:
What we need:
OK let’s get started!
Step 1. Create a new document sized 1300px * 900px, the background layer is black. Download the image “Ocean”, and with the tool Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection area), insert a part of the image into our document. Name this layer “Ocean”:
Duplicate the “Ocean” layer by pressing Ctrl + J, and apply a filter Filter – Noise – Reduce Noise (Filter – Noise – Reduce Noise) once with the parameters shown below:
As you can see, the ocean began to look more smooth and calm.
Duplicate the Ocean layer again and drag the duplicate above all layers. BlendingMode Set the (blending mode) layer to Color doge(Lightening the basics).
Go to menu Layer – NewAdjustmentLayer – Levels (Layers – New adjustment layer – Levels). In the appeared window put a tick – Usepreviouslayerasclippingmask(Use the previous layer as a clipping mask). Color correction settings below:
Add another adjustment layer. Layer – NewAdjustmentLayer – BlackWhite (Layers – New adjustment layer – Black and white), but this time do not tick.
You will get the following image:
Big soft brush hide the upper edges of the ocean.
Here’s what happened at the moment:
Step 2. Download the image “Sky” and with the tool Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection area), insert the image into our document. See below for size and location:
Bottom edge wipe soft brush:
Add adjustment layer Layer – NewAdjustmentLayer – BlackWhite (Layers – New adjustment layer – Black and White). In the appeared window put a tick – Usepreviouslayerasclippingmask(Use the previous layer as a clipping mask). Color correction settings below:
Here’s what happened at the moment:
Step 3. Upload the building image, and with the tool Quick selection(Quick selection), paste the building into our document (I used the one on the right):
Use a soft brush to remove the top and left edges of the layer:
Make sure you erase the left edge of the building as if it is hidden behind a cloud:
Correction layer BlackWhite with tick clippingmask.
Correction layer Levels ticked clippingmask.
Layer mask on the adjustment layer Levels
Here’s what happened at the moment:
Hide part of the building in some places even stronger:
Step 4. Now let’s add a splash of waves. Upload the Wave image, and with the tool Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection area), insert a piece of wave in our document. Resize and position the layer as shown on the swatch:
With a large soft brush, hide the edges of the wave:
Correction layer BlackWhite with tick clippingmask
Correction layer Levels ticked clippingmask
Here’s what happened at the moment:
Step 5. Group all the layers belonging to the building. Duplicate the group once (right click on the group and select Dublicategroup – Duplicate the group) and mirror it (press Ctrl + T, and then right-click and select Flip horisontal – Flip horizontally)
Move the group to the left and position as shown on the pattern:
Download the image “Girl. Highlight and paste the girl into our document. Layer name” Girl “
Tool Erase (Eraser) erase some edges so that the girl blends in better with the environment:
Create a new layer and name it “Glow”. Use a soft white brush to create a glow around the girl:
Create a new layer and name it “splash”. On a layer, copy one of the areas with splashes from the Wave image. Transform the spray in perspective, and reduce the opacity to make it look more realistic:
Add a new adjustment layer for the girl layer Levels ticked clippingmask
New adjustment layer Curves (Curves) with a check mark clippingmask
New adjustment layer BlackWhiteticked clippingmask
And that’s what happens at the moment:
Step 6. Now let’s add some textures to the image. You can use any grunge or abstract brushes. Opacity (Opacity) layer down to 50%.
On top of all layers with settings, add a new adjustment layer. Curves (Curves). This time do not tick.
Here’s what I got at the moment:
Step 7. Now fill the sky by adding some black holes. Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E to copy all layers to one new separate layer. Menu Filter> Distort> Polar Coordinates (Filter – Distortion – Polar coordinates).
And you get this effect.
Reduce the size of this layer and distort it a little. Soft brush hide the edges of the black hole.
Duplicate this layer several times. When changing the size and angle of the holes, place them as shown below:
After you finish, make the image a little sharper and here’s the result:
