Create a surreal photo.

Recently, it has become popular to manipulate photography, creating a surreal plot from it. This lesson will show how this can be done.
In the finished form the photo will be as follows:

Step 1 – Select Photo

Let us dwell on the image of the road, surrounded by a field of flowers.

Step 2 – Decide where to place surreal accents.

Now that we have chosen a photo, we need to think about what to add in order to make it surreal. Make the road brighter, make the field with flowers glow, make an unusual empty sky.

Step 3 – Fixing the Background

Traces from the tractor and trampled parts are visible on the flower field. Use the stamp tool (Clone Stamp Tool) to level our field.

Step 4 – Adding the First Beam

Let us create with the help of Per a path along which the road turns. In the brush settings menu, select the Control-Fade parameter, set the value to about 500, The minimum diameter (Minimum Diameter) on ten%. Brush size 19 px.

Click the right button on the contour and select Outline the contour (Stroke Path). Select Brush (Brush) and tick on Simulate pressure (Simulate Pressure).

You can experiment with the Brush Settings to get the desired result.

Step 5 – Layer Styles

Open on the layer with the beam (right click) menu Overlay options (Blending Options).
Use the layer styles shown below to get the desired effect.

External glow (Outer Glow)
This will create a glow beam. The color used here is #ff0000.

Inner Glow (Inner Glow)
This will create a lighter color starting at the center of the beam. Used heref75151.

Gloss (Satin)
This will add structure to the shape of the beam.

Color overlay (Color Overlay)
This will replace the color of the beam with red. Used hereff0000.

Step 6 – Adding Filters

Revive our ray.
Make a copy of the layer with the beam (Ctrl + J). Then convert the layer to a smart object (right click on the layer> Group into a new smart object (Convert to Smart Object)).

* This action can only be performed in CS3. If you have a younger version, add filters as before.

This transformation will allow us to easily manipulate filters, easily add and remove them.
Now apply the following filters:

Reticulation: Filter> Sketch> Reticulation (Filter> Sketch> Reticulation)
Make sure that black is the foreground color, white is the background color.

Chalk and Coal: Filter> Sketch> Chalk and Coal (Filter> Sketch> Chalk Charcoal)
Make sure that black is the foreground color, white is the background color.

Cellophane packaging: Filter> Imitation> Cellophane Packaging (Filter> Artistic> Plastic Wrap)

Finally, set the blending mode to layer Lightening basics (Color Dodge), Opacity on 44%.

Step 7 Glow

Create a new layer and select our red beam (click with Ctrl). Set the main white, dark red – the background (here #7c0707).

Apply Filter> Rendering> Clouds (Filter> Render> Clouds), then Filter> Rendering> Overlay Clouds (Filter> Render> Difference Clouds). By pressing Ctrl + F, you can apply filters several times until you get the desired result. Now set the layer blending mode. Linear Dodge (Linear Dodge) and lower the Opacity.

Step 8 – Let the Beam Shine

For Brush size 3 px set the parameters:

In the new layer, draw along the beam with the resulting brush. First white, then make the same bright red. Reduce the layer Opacity to 40 – 50%.

Step 9 – More Rays!

Repeat the process of creating a beam with other colors. Using layer masks, you can twist the rays above and below each other.

The layer mask limits the visible area of the layer. In the layer mask, the white area is visible, black is not visible.

Step 10 – Working with the sky

In order to create an effect in the sky, we need to create our own brush.
Create a new document 50 * 50 px. Then create a new layer and delete the background layer (the background should be transparent). Draw a rectangle 10 px wide and 40 px high. Duplicate the layer and rotate 90 degrees: Editing> Transform> Rotate 90 degrees (Edit> Transform> Rotate 90 degrees). The resulting cross will be a brush: Editing> Define Brush (Edit> Define Brush Preset).

Now you can close the new document. Select the Brush and set the main color335776 and background color6084a5. Set the following brush parameters:

Brush Tip Shape

Shape Dynamics

Scattering

Color Dynamics

Other Dynamics

Add a layer mask and Eraser to create a smooth transition from the sky in the cross to the empty sky.

Step 11 – Blackout

Let’s make the photo more spectacular. Fading will put final accents on the image.
Create a new layer above the background. Fill it with black and set the mode for the layer Overlap (Overlay). The flower field glows!

You can experiment further until you reach the desired effect. Dare, and you will succeed!
