In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a portrait with elements of the city in Photoshop. This is a lesson of medium difficulty, and individual steps may seem a bit difficult, but why not try it!
Note: This lesson is done in Photoshop CC – so some screenshots may differ slightly from previous versions of the program. Some brushes are only available in this version of Photoshop CS6.
OK. Let’s get started!
The final result:
Step 1
Create a new document with the following dimensions 907 px * 1380 px, the background is white.
Open the original image with the model. Highlight the model image. Copy / paste the selected model image onto our working paper. Arrange the model as shown in the screenshot below.
Using soft Eraser (eraser tool), select Clouds brush as a tool, paint the hair and shoulders of the model, as shown in the screenshot below:
Now, using a soft eraser, hide the lower right part of the model image – later we will add some elements to this area.
Step 2
Add 2 adjustment layers on top of the model layer as clipping masks:
Black-white (Black and White)
Switch to the adjustment layer mask Black and white (Black and White) and with the Spray brush, hide separate correction fragments around the face and fingers, as shown in the screenshot below:
Curves (Curves)
The resulting effect at the moment lesson:
Create a new layer below the model layer and use the Clouds brush to draw the cloud effect, as shown in the screenshot below:
Step 3
Open the original cityscape image 1 in Photoshop. Highlight the red building in this image:
Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) red building on our working paper. Place the fragment with the building between the model layer and the cloud layer. Apply scaling to the size of the working document. Decrease Opacity (opacity) layer to about 80%:
Next, using the soft Eraser (eraser tool), as a tool, set the Spray brush, hide certain parts of the building, as shown in the screenshot below:
To the layer with the building fragment, apply 3 adjustment layers as clipping masks:
Black-white (Black and White)
Levels (Levels)
Curves (Curves)
The resulting effect at the moment lesson:
Step 4
Open the original cityscape image 2 in Photoshop. Highlight the next building, which is highlighted in the screenshot below:
Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) highlighted image of the building on our working paper. Arrange the building as shown in the screenshot below. Using tools Free transformation (free transform tool) and Eraser (eraser tool), adjust the image of the building so that it fits in the outline of the model’s figure:
For a layer with a fragment of a building, apply 2 adjustment layers as clipping masks:
Black-white (Black and White)
Levels (Levels)
The resulting effect at the moment lesson:
Step 5
Open the original image with the cityscape 3 in Photoshop, select the lower part of the image with road markings:
Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) selection with road markings on our working paper. Place the markup layer below the model layer. Using tool Free transformation (free transform tool), perform image correction:
To the layer with the road marking fragment, apply 3 adjustment layers as clipping masks:
Black-white (Black and White)
Levels (Levels)
Curves (Curves)
We get the following effect.
Step 6
Next, we will add a couple of urban elements to our scene, this is a traffic light and a road sign. Open the original cityscape image 1 again to highlight the traffic light:
Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) selected fragment of the city with the image of a traffic light on our working paper. Apply scaling, placing the traffic light on a city street:
For the traffic light layer, apply 2 adjustment layers as clipping masks:
Curves (Curves)
Levels (Levels)
The result should be as in the screenshot below:
Once again, open the original image with the cityscape 3. This time, select the road lamp and advertising sign:
Copy / paste the selected fragment of the city with the image of a road lamp with an advertising pointer to our working paper. Apply 2 adjustment layers as clipping masks:
Black-white (Black and White)
Levels (Levels)
Arrange the image of the road lamp, as shown in the screenshot below:
Step 7
We have almost completed the lesson! Finally, I added a couple of adjustment layers on top of all the other layers to add a little color to the whole picture:
Selective color correction (Selective color)
Vibration (Vibrance).
We have completed the lesson! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it was useful for you. You can see the final result in the screenshot below. See you, have a nice day!
