In this tutorial, we will create a futuristic depiction of a treacherous quinoid from an ordinary photo of a girl.
For the lesson we need a photo from the archive.
Step 1. Eyebrow Removal
Open a photo in Photoshop. Choose a tool Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal Lasso Tool) (L) and highlight eyebrow. Go to menu Editing> Fill (Edit> Fill) and select fill Based on content (Content-Aware).
In the same way, remove the other eyebrow, as well as all spots and skin imperfections.
Step 2. Smoothing the skin
Choose a tool Fast selection (Quick Selection Tool) (W) and highlight the skin.
Go to menu Select> Refine Edge (Edit> Refine Edge). Move the sliders and work tool Refine radius (Refine Radius Tool) to clean the selection edges. Set Output to to New layer with layer mask (New Layer with Layer Mask).
Apply filter to new layer Blur on the surface (Filter> Blur> Blur on Surface / Filter> Blur> Surface Blur). This filter will smooth out the skin and leave the edges of the silhouette clear.
Create a copy of the blurred layer (Ctrl + J) and apply filter cellophane packaging (Filter> Imitation> Cellophane packaging):
- Highlight Strength: 3
- Detailing: 1
- Smoothness: 15
After applying the filter, the line near the hair will become blurred. To return to realism, use a black brush on the mask to draw the areas from which you want to remove the effect of the filter.
Step 3: Skin Lightening
Create adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) to discolor the skin.
Choose a small brush and paint on the mask in black with lips, eyes and nails.
Create Curves Correction Layer (Curves) to brighten the skin. Click on the mask of this layer and go to the menu. Image> External channel (Image> Apply Image). Select the layer to which the blur filter has been applied to the surface. The mask will be poured so that the correction affects only the skin.
Open the correction window and select the black pipette. Click on the darkest area around your left eye. Then select a white pipette and click on the brightest part of the forehead.
Step 4: Change the color of the skin and eyes
We put a blue tint on the skin. To do this, create filling layer color (Solid Color): # 0c00ff. Transfer mask Curves Adjustment Layer on New Casting Layer. Set the blending mode to Soft light (Soft Light) and lower the opacity to 10%.
To change eye color, create adjustment layer Color balance (Color Balance) above the background layer with a photo. Fill the mask of this layer with black and white brush and paint the eyes to return the color to them.
Create Brightness / Contrast adjustment layer (Brightness / Contrast): set both parameters to 30. Fill the mask with black and white brush and paint the eyes.
Step 5: Divide the Body
Choose a tool Pen (Pen Tool) (P) and draw the outline shown below.
Choose a tool Arrow (Direct Selection Tool) (A) and select the contour, copy it (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V). Move the copy several pixels up. Then select the tool again. Pen (Pen Tool) (P) and connect the ends of the lines to get a closed loop.
Choose a tool Arrow (Direct Selection Tool) (A), select the contour, right-click on the canvas and select To form a selected area (Make Selection).
Go to the fill menu (Shift + F5) and fill the selected area with black.
Apply style to black shape Stamping (Bevel Emboss):
Separate other parts of the body in the same way. The edges of the separator lines can be hidden with a mask.
Step 6: Blur the Background
Now we will add blur to the edges of the image. Merge all layers into a group and create a copy of it. Merge the copy into one layer (Ctrl + E) and name it “merged”. Create a copy of this layer (Ctrl + J) and name it “blur”.
Apply to the layer “blur” Gaussian Blur filter (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur / Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur) with a value of 20 pixels.
Add a mask to the blurred layer and select the tool. Gradient (Gradient Tool) (G), configure it as shown below. Pour the mask from the center of the canvas to one of the edges.
Step 7: Image Brightening
On top of all layers create adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation):
Now create casting layer gradient (Gradient Fill): from white to transparent. Install Blend mode on Soft light (Soft Light) and lower the opacity to 60%.
Create one more casting layer gradient: from # 0c00ff to # ff00f6. Install Blend mode on Light replacement (Lighten) and lower the opacity to 20%.
Create the last gradient layer: from # ff00f6 to transparent. The blending mode and opacity of this layer are the same as the previous one.
Step 9: Shine
Tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool) (U) Create a circle with the color # 0c00ff.
Click on the circle layer with the right mouse button and select the item Rasterize layer (Rasterize Layer). Apply filter Motion blur (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur / Filter> Blur> Motion Blur).
To stretch the lights even more, repeat the filter (Ctrl + F). Use the Free Transform tool (Ctrl + T) to compress the blurred circle and place it where you want to see the glow.
Create a copy of the layer (Ctrl + J) to enhance the shine. After that, combine both layers. Set the blending mode to Lighten.
If you want to create a glow in other places, simply create a copy of the layer (Ctrl + J) and drag it.
