Step 1

Open the stock image Background. Set the dimensions for this image to 2250 px in width and 1500 px in height.

Step 2

Transform the background layer into a smart object. To do this, right-click on the layer and in the window that appears, select the option Convert to smart object (Convert to smart object).

Step 3

Double click on the small thumbnail of the layer.

Step 4

Next, a new window will appear. This option allows you to edit the smart object. Therefore, click OK.

Step 5

Now, duplicate the layer with the background (Ctrl + J) in case you need to return to the layer with the original image. On the duplicate layer, hide unwanted parts of the image with the tool Patch (patch tool).

Step 6

Create another duplicate layer (Ctrl + J). Next, press the keys (Ctrl + U) and in the settings window that appears, decrease the value Saturation (saturation) to -70. The image should be like in the screenshot below.

Step 7

After you have made the color correction, press the keys (Ctrl + S), then close the window.

Step 8

Next, go to the folder with the original images and select the image of the River. You will see that the image with the river automatically became a smart object. Apply scaling to the image with the river.

Step 9

To the image with the river, add a layer mask. Choose a soft round brush in black. Using this brush, paint over the layer mask to hide the extra areas. The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Step 10

Create a new adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation).

Reduce value Saturation (Saturation) to – 60.

Step 11

Convert adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) to the clipping mask to the layer with the river so that the correction is applicable only to the layer with the river. To do this, while on the adjustment layer, right-click on the layer and in the menu that appears, select the option Create clipping mask (Create Clipping Mask).

Step 12

Go to the layer with the background, create a duplicate layer by pressing the keys (Ctrl + J). Next, change the blending mode to duplicate the layer to Soft light (soft light).

Step 13

Select stock image with city. Repeat the process with the layer mask to align with the background.

Layer mask

Step 14

Next, go Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (filters – blur – Gaussian blur) and apply a blur radius of 2 px to get the result, as in the screenshot below.

Step 15

Select an image with a lock. Apply scaling to the image with the lock, so that the castle fits to the mountain, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 16

Add a layer mask to the layer with a lock and using a layer mask, do the same thing you did earlier to align and remove unnecessary parts.

Step 17

Change the blending mode for the layer with the lock to Overlap (Overlay).

Step 18

Open stock image with a waterfall. Move this image to our working paper. Apply scaling to the image with a waterfall in accordance with the mountain.

Step 19

Add a layer mask to the waterfall layer to align with the background and create a smooth transition.

Change the blending mode for the waterfall layer to Soft light (Soft Light).

Step 20

Now, add additional elements to our image. It can be mountains, castles, ruins, in a word, everything that will give the image a beautiful view. Using the layer mask processing technique that you used in the previous steps, process additional objects to best match the entire scene and don’t forget to change the blending mode for the layers with additional elements to Soft light (soft light) or Overlap (overlay).

Step 21

Select a stock image of the cliff. Add this image to our working paper. Apply scaling (Ctrl + T).

Translator’s Note: Unfortunately, the author did not specify a link to the image of the rock, therefore, you can use the images that I selected for you: Rock 1, Rock 2, Rock 3, or you can choose the appropriate image yourself at your discretion.

Step 22

Using tool Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal lasso tool), highlight the image of the rock.

Step 23

Add a layer mask to the rock layer to get a selected image of the rock.

Step 24

Duplicate the duplicate layer with the image of a fragment of rock (Ctrl + J), and then change the blending mode for the layer with the duplicate to Multiplication (multiply), layer opacity 60%.

Step 25

Add texture with lichen to our working paper. Add a layer mask to the lichen texture layer to hide unwanted patches.

Result.

Step 26

Next, change the blending mode for the texture layer to Soft light (soft light) and using a correction layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation), decrease the value Saturation (saturation) to – 40.

Step 27

Using tool Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal lasso tool), highlight the model image.

Step 28

Now, add a layer mask to the layer with the selected image of the model, so the selected image of the model will be the only fragment that you will see.

Step 29

Duplicate the model image. This time, create a selection just around the image of the dress, using the same selection technique you used in the previous step. Add a layer mask to the layer with the selected image of the dress. Next, using a soft black brush, hide the model’s body, leaving only the image of the dress.

Step 30

So, being on the layer layer mask + right-click on the layer mask, and in the window that appears, select the option Add layer mask to selected area (add mask to the selection), this will allow us to deform the dress in the next step.

Step 31

Now, press the keys (Ctrl + T) to activate the transformation. Then right-click on the document and in the window that appears, select the option Deformation (warp). With this option, deform the dress, then press the Enter button to save the changes.

Step 32

Convert the dress layer into a smart object, to do this, right-click on the layer and in the window that appears, select the option Convert to smart object (Convert Smart Object).

Step 33

Using the adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation), decrease the value Saturation (saturation) to – 100 to make the dress turn black.

Step 34

To create makeup, I used pink shades on the cheeks and lips of the model, and also used shades of brown on the eyebrows. Also draw shadows on the eyes.

Step 35

You can additionally draw hair with a Hair brush, either with a pen tool or with a tablet.

Step 36

In this step, we will create the lights of the city. To do this, create a new layer. Choose a soft round brush to create light effects. You can use a brush size of 5 px or smaller.

Step 37

Next we go Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (filter – blur – Gaussian blur) and apply a blur radius of 2 px to the layer to create a soft lighting effect. Also, using the 30% opacity eraser, you can reduce the effects of lighting on certain areas to create a more realistic look.

Step 38

Open image with sky. Add a layer mask to the sky layer.

Step 39

Hide the blue on the layer’s layer mask. The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Step 40

Change the blending mode for the sky layer to Soft light (soft light), and then lower the layer’s opacity to 60%.

Step 41

Using a soft round brush with 50% opacity and pressing 50%, create lighting effects.

Step 42

Change the blending mode for the light effect layer to Soft light (soft light), and then lower the layer’s opacity to 60%.

Step 43

Create a new layer, change the mode for this layer to Soft light (soft light). Create shadows with a soft round brush with an opacity of 50% and pressing 50%.

Choose a tool Free feather (Freeform Pen Tool). With this tool, create additional details on the dress model.

Step 45

Once you have drawn the contour lines, then right-click on the drawn contour line and in the window that appears, select the option Outline the contour (Stroke Paths).

Install tool Brush (Brush), additionally check the box Simulate pressure (Simulate Pressure).

Result.

Step 46

Choose a tool Blur ( blur) as well Finger (smudge tool), using these tools, walk along the contour lines you just created to create a softer look. Also reduce the opacity of the layer to 60%.

Step 47

Apply the same technique that you used to create lighting effects earlier. Use white or yellow tones for the brush. Using a soft round brush with 50% opacity and pressing 50%, create lighting effects, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 48

Create a new layer. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (soft light), if necessary, you can reduce the opacity of the layer. Paint over soft shades throughout the image. When creating lighting effects, try to follow the direction of the light source. Start from the left corner of the image, shading more intensely in this place and less intensely in the right side of the composition.

Translator’s Note: You can use shades of yellow on the left side of the scene and shades of white on the right side of the scene.

Step 49

Create a new layer, change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (soft light). Using a soft round brush with an opacity of 50% and pressing 50%, paint it in black to get the result, as in the screenshot below:
