Source materials:

STEP 1 – We select stock images

Choose the images you will use.

STEP 2 – Highlight the model image

Using the selection tool that you prefer to work with, select the model image. You can use tools Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal Lasso Tool), Magnetic Lasso (Magnetic Lasso Tool), Quick mask (Quick Mask), Fast Allocation (Quick Selection Tool), Eraser (Eraser), etc. In this case, I used the tool Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal Lasso Tool).

STEP 3 – Create a new document

Create a new document with the dimensions shown in the screenshot below. On a new document, move the selected model image, resizing accordingly.

STEP 4 – Reduce saturation

Duplicate the model layer (Ctrl + J) and then reduce the saturation of the duplicate (Ctrl + U). Reduce the saturation of the layer to -55.

STEP 5 – Create surrounding landscape

Next, pick up the background for your composition. I like to mix different images to create a background, in this case, the picture I used as the “base” was as follows:

STEP 6 Apply a Gradient to the Background.

Create a new layer and apply a tool on a new layer. Gradient (gradient tool), gradient type from green to white. Then, reduce Opacity (opacity) layer up to 80%, and also reduce Fill (fill) up to 80%.

STEP 7 Apply Gaussian Blur (Gaussian Blur).

Next, add a waterfall and trees image to the background. Change the blending mode for the waterfall layer to Lightening (Screen) and apply filter to this image Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur) to get the result, as in the screenshot below. I applied a fairly large Gaussian blur to the image with a waterfall, so in the screenshot below you can see the difference, but you can use less blur.

STEP 8 – Correct lighting

Create a new layer for additional green, change the blending mode to Lightening (screen), reduce the opacity to 50% so that the background is lighter.

STEP 9 – Texture

Now, I will show you how to add a lichen texture to the stones, changing the blending mode of the texture layer to Soft light (soft light) and reducing the opacity of the layer to 80%.

STEP 10 Leather model is a very important detail.!

It’s time to work with the skin of the model. Before you start, you must create a selection using the tool Lasso (lasso tool) on the original layer with the model. There is no need to create an exact selection, just to select each area of the model’s skin. Because, then, you will be able to remove areas that are not needed.

STEP 11 – Additional skin retouching, as I said, this is an important detail.

Duplicate the selection that you created by pressing the Ctrl + J keys to create two new layers, and for the second duplicate, change the blending mode to Lightening (screen) with a layer opacity of 50% to make the skin look lighter.

STEP 12 – Add hair

To add hair, I used brushes to get the desired result. You can also use the tool Pen (pen tool) to create hair.

STEP 13 – Pond

Add an image with a pond. Change the blending mode for the pond layer to Soft light (soft light), as shown in the screenshot below:

STEP 14 – Add fog

Next, we will add a fog layer to add more light. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (soft light).

STEP 15 Add some composition life

Also, you can add several fish or plants, reducing the opacity of images to 80%, or even less, if they are located at a distance, you can still reduce the opacity, so that they look realistic in the pond.

STEP 16 – Shadows

In this step, we will create the shadows. For this, I used a soft brush with an opacity of 50%, and then to the created shadow, I applied a small Gaussian blur (Gaussian blur), and also changed the blending mode for the layer with the shadow on Soft light (soft light):

STEP 17 – Next, the lighting

When creating lighting, the same technique is used as when creating shadows. For this, I used a soft brush, and then applied a small Gaussian blur (Gaussian blur), and also changed the blending mode for the layer with the shadow on Soft light (soft light). You can use several layers to make the image lighter.

STEP 18 – Select the objects

To make the model and the stones stand out against the background, apply a small brush and a small Gaussian blur (Gaussian) to create this effect.

STEP 19 – Add touches

I added strokes using the tool Pen (pen tool) to improve lighting details. On the hair of the model, apply strokes to individual strands of hair, and also apply strokes to the background, in the settings, set a small brush and tick the box Simulate pressure (simulate pressure).

STEP 20 – Change the color shades

In order to change color shades, you can use Photo Filters (photo filters), I used a warm shade filter with opacity and shading (fill and opacity) 50%.

STEP 21 – Final Step

Apply adjustment layer Channel Mixing (channel mixer) for final work with lighting effects. Do not forget to change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (soft light) and reduce the opacity of the layer to 80%. And we finished the lesson.
