Improving landscape photos in Photoshop

If you’re working with photos, images, or graphics — find out how to use new features to control the colors of images in Photoshop CC 2018.

Color Range Masking is another new feature in recent versions of Photoshop and Lightroom that allows you to control the masking of gradients and adjust colors based on the color range of your image.

document.addEventListener(“jready”, function(){ setTimeout(()=>{ $(‘#bfa-c40d4830954769e9eac5e02e88a28d49’).twentytwenty(); },10); });

If you spend a lot of time finely adjusting the masks, here the author shows how you can retouch in minutes using this new feature.

Step 1

Open your chosen image in Photoshop. Then click right click on the background layer and select Convert to smart object (Convert to Smart Object).

This will allow us to work without fear in Adobe Camera Raw. We can go back and make any changes later.

Step 2

Then go to Filter> Camera Raw Filter (Filter> Camera Raw Filter) to open the Adobe Camera Raw window.

Step 3

In the upper left corner of the Camera Raw filter screen, click Radial filter (J) (Radial Filter).

Click in the center of the image and hold down the Shift key and drag a circle in the middle of the image. Then you can edit the shape of the filter and stretch it straight across the horizon to make an elongated oval.

Step 4

On the right side of the screen, move the slider Temperature (Temperature) toward the yellow end of the scale to add orange to the sky, as well as slightly increase the saturation. Also the author slightly moved the parameter slider. Remove haze (Dehaze) to make the colors more vivid.

Step 5

You have noticed that the application of these parameters has affected the entire central part of the image, so in the lower part of the right pane, click the drop-down menu. Range masking (Range Mask) and select Colour (Color).

Step 6

Choose a tool Pipette (Eyedropper) next to the range masking drop-down menu. Click on the orange parts of the image to select them as the colors you want to adjust.

If you want to select multiple areas, press and hold the Shift key as you select each additional area to adjust.

Step 7

Use the slider Color range (Color Range) at the bottom of the right pane to fine-tune anti-aliasing for a wide range of colors in your mask. The author moved the slider to 100 to achieve the maximum effect. Once you are done, click OK to confirm all changes and return to the main Photoshop window again.

That’s all! You can change the filter settings to your liking, thanks to the fact that we use the Smart Object, we can adjust something at any time.

document.addEventListener(“jready”, function(){ setTimeout(()=>{ $(‘#bfa-c40d4830954769e9eac5e02e88a28d49’).twentytwenty(); },10); });
