Step 1

Create a new document with the following dimensions: 1285 px wide and 1728 px high.

Step 2

Open the stock image “Window”. Move this image to our working paper. Using tool Free transformation (free transform tool (Ctrl + T), transform the window image scale in accordance with the size of our document.

Convert the window layer to a Smart Object. Next, apply a filter to the window layer. Gaussian blur (Gaussian blur), let’s go Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian blur), set the blur radius as shown in the screenshot below. A white thumbnail of the smart filter will appear below the layer with the window.

Now we need to keep the blur effect on the trees and leaves outside the window, and also hide the blur effect for the rest of the image. Go to the smart filter mask by clicking on the smart filter thumbnail. Select a soft round brush (hardness 0%), brush color is black, and then use this brush to paint the wall and window, except for trees and leaves, to keep the blur effect on them. The areas you brush with are highlighted in black on the smart filter thumbnail.

Result.

Step 3

Next, we will make the color correction window. Let’s go Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation (layer> new adjustment layers> hue / saturation). Set the values that are shown in the screenshot below. Mode Normal (normal), layer opacity is 100%.

Go again Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Selective Color Correction (layer> new adjustment layers> selective color). Set the values that are shown in the screenshot below. Mode Normal(normal), layer opacity 20%.

Add another adjustment layer, this time add Color Balance (color balance). Change the blending mode for this adjustment layer to Multiplication (multiply), and reduce the opacity to 60%.

Next, go to the layer mask of the adjustment layer. Color Balance (color balance). Using a soft brush with an opacity of about 10-15%, the color of the brush is black, paint over the areas highlighted in the screenshot below to hide or weaken the effect of this adjustment layer, keeping these areas light.

The layer mask should look like the screenshot below.

Next, we’ll add blue tones to the scene using the adjustment layer. Photo Filter (photo filter). In the filter settings, specify a blue tint, and also set the value Density (density) 42%.

Next, add another adjustment layer. Gradient Map (gradient map). Set the gradient colors shown in the screenshot below. Change the blending mode for this adjustment layer to Multiplication (multiply), and also reduce the layer opacity to 55%.

On the layer mask of the adjustment layer Gradient Map (gradient map), hide the correction effect around the walls.

Next, add the last adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation (hue / saturation). Mode Normal (normal), layer opacity is about 45%. Lightly hide the effect on the wall. Next, select all adjustment layers in the layers palette, and then press the keys (Ctrl + G) to group them into one group. I called this group ‘Correction’.

The result at the moment …

Step 4

Create a new layer on top of the ‘Correction’ group. Fill (Shift + F5) this layer with a dark green tint # oo2524. Change the blending mode for this layer to An exception (exclusion), and also reduce the layer opacity to 25%.

Step five

Let’s start decorating the window using the color image. Add an image of flowers to our scene. Apply scaling by arranging the flowers as shown in the screenshot below.

Being on a layer with flowers, we go Layer – Layer Styles – Shadow (layer> layer styles> drop shadow). Set the settings that are shown in the screenshot below.

Next, we will conduct color correction of colors. Add a correction layer to the color layer. Hue / Saturation (hue / saturation). Let’s go Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation (layer> layer adjustment layers> hue / saturation). In the window that appears, do not forget to put a tick in the box Use previous layer to create clipping mask. (Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask).

Set the values for this adjustment layer, which are shown in the screenshot below. Hide the effect of the correction on the layer mask of the adjustment layer on the areas that are highlighted in the screenshot below. Change the blending mode for the adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation (hue / saturation) on Soft light (soft light), 100%.

We can add more colors to our scene. Simply duplicate the layer with colors (Ctrl + J), and then place the duplicate layer in the right place. Perform color correction by repeating the previous steps above.

Step 6

In this step, we will add additional objects to our scene to add more decorations to the window and wall. We use the image of a berry in the form of a heart, located on the model’s hand, as an ornament. Cut out the image of the berry. To do this, use the tool. Pen (pen tool). I think that you are familiar with the operation of this tool, therefore, I will not explain how to use it.

After you separate the image of the berry from the model’s hand, cut the half of the berry to a new layer. Next, duplicate the duplicate layer with half a berry. Flip a duplicate of the layer with a half across to get a whole berry, like a heart. Select all the layers with the halves of the berry, and then press the keys (Ctrl + E) to create a merged layer.

Step 7

Next, add the highlighted image of the berry to our working paper. Apply scaling to the berry.

Next, we add a glow to our berry. To do this, add a layer style to the berry layer. Color overlay (color overlay) and External glow (outer glow). Apply the settings shown in the screenshot below.

My result is styling.

Next, create a new layer below the berry layer. Choose soft round brush with opacity 100%, brush color red # fe0202. Click on the brush to add more red glow to our decor. Brush size to fit the size of the active selection, as in the screenshot below. Blend mode for this layer Normal (normal), 100%.

Create another new layer on top of the previous layer. Change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (overlay). While on this layer, add a soft red tint to the area that is highlighted in the screenshot below. You can duplicate this layer and then change the blending mode for duplicate layer to Lightening basics (color dodge). Try playing with the opacity of the layers to get the desired red glow effect, for example, I reduced the opacity of the original layer to about 68%, and for a duplicate layer to 10%.

Select all the layers and then group them into one group. I called this group Red Light. Duplicate the created group as many times as you see fit. Arrange duplicate groups along the entire length of the floral decoration. In the screenshot below, you can see my location result.

Translator’s Note: Combine all layers with a red glow and a berry in one group.

Step 8

Next, create a new layer on top of all other layers. In the settings, set the mode Overlap (overlay), and also put a tick in the box Fill with a neutral color using the Overlapping ’mode (50% gray) (Fill with Overlay-neutral color (50% gray).

On a new layer, we will draw light and shade. To do this, choose a soft brush with an opacity of about 10-15%. Using a white brush, stroke the areas around the window and floor to add light highlights and vice versa, using a black brush, apply shadows where they are needed. In the screenshot below, you can see the light and shade that I created under the mode Normal (normal), 100%.

Result at the moment.

Step 9

Next, we will enhance the scene by adding a glow on the window sill. Create a new layer on top of the light and shadow layer. Change the blending mode for this layer to Lightening basics (color dodge), fill it with black.

Being on a new layer, paint over the soft blue color on the window sill. In the screenshot below, the result that I created under the mode Normal (normal), layer opacity is 100%.

The result of the mode Lightening basics (color dodge). To add more glow, you can duplicate the glow layer and adjust the opacity accordingly.

Step 10

In this step, we will add light highlights to the window frame. Create a new layer. Install Rigidity(hardness) brush, about 50%, brush size 2-3px. Set the foreground color to #baffef. Next, select the tool Pen (pen tool). Create an outline on the window frame. Next, right-click on the created contour and in the window that appears, select the option Outline the contour (stroke path). Specify the brush as a stroke tool.

In the same way, add light highlights to other parts of the frame.

Step 11

Next, we will add a model to our scene. We use the image shown in the screenshot below. Before adding the image of the girl to our scene, we will conduct a small retouch of the girl’s skin. For this, go to the bookmark Channels (channel) and select green channel (green channel). Press the keys (Ctrl + A) to select the channel. Copy the selected channel, and then paste it on a new layer on top of the layer with the girl in the layers palette. I called this layer ‘Green’

Invert the ‘Green’ layer (Ctrl + I) to get the result, as in the screenshot below:

Next, on the inversion layer, apply the filter Colour contrast (high pass), let’s go Filter – Other – Color Contrast (filter> others> high pass).

Next, change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (overlay), layer opacity is 100%. To the inversion layer, add a layer mask and using a soft black brush, treat the areas around the eyes, nose, lips and clothes.

The result after a quick retouching of the skin.

Finally, separate the image of the girl from the background.

Step 12

The result of the image of the girl after adding the drawn hair. Using tool Pen (pen tool), I just finished my hair. In principle, the technique is the same as when creating light highlights on the window frame, first we create the outline, and then draw the outline of the outline with a brush, adjusting the brush size accordingly (make sure you download and install the Hair brushes in Photoshop). Select a color shade sample from the hair area to choose a color shade for the stroke.

The result that I created, you can see in the screenshot below. I also added lace on the bottom edge of the girl’s dress.

Step 13

Finally, add an image of a girl to our working paper. Apply scaling to the image of the girl, placing it as shown in the screenshot below.

Next, we will carry out the color correction of the image of the girl. First, to the layer with the girl, we will add an adjustment layer. Brightness / Contrast (brightness / contrast). Do not forget to convert this layer to a clipping mask to the layer with the girl. On the layer mask of this adjustment layer, loosen the correction on the face, legs, and hands.

Next, add an adjustment layer. Color Balance (color balance) as a clipping mask.

Create a new layer as a clipping mask on top of the adjustment layer. Color Balance (color balance), fill it with black. Blend mode for this layer Normal (normal), the layer opacity is about 30-40%. Hide the effect on the girl’s face, as well as on the arms and legs. This layer will add more shadows to the image of the girl.

Create another new layer on top of the black fill layer. Fill this layer 50% gray (50% gray), set the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (overlay). While on this layer, draw light highlights on clothes, hands, face, and legs. You can refer to the previous step regarding how to add highlights and shadows (Step 8). Select all the layers with the girl, and then group them into one group. I called this group ‘Model’.

Step 14

In this step we will create the light for the lamp. First, create a new layer on top of the с Model ’group layer. Using a soft brush, the color of the brush is soft yellow, paint over the lamp by clicking on it. Regarding the size of the image of the girl, I set the size of the brush, about 280px.

Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (soft light), and also reduce the opacity of the layer to about 55-65% to get the result, as in the screenshot below.

Next, create another new layer. Using a soft brush of the same size as in the previous step, brush the color yellow-white # f7efc0, paint over the lamp. Change the blending mode for this layer to Hard light (hard light), and also reduce the opacity of the layer to about 20%.

Create another new layer. We will add some color as shown in the screenshot below. For this, I used a soft round brush with a very low opacity, about 10-15 pixels of the same size as in the previous step.

Next, create another new layer on top of the previous layer. Set the foreground color to orange. Using an orange soft round brush, paint over the area that is highlighted in the screenshot below. Change the blending mode for this layer to Lightening (screen).

Create a new layer. Add yellow shades using a smaller brush size than adding orange shades. Blend mode for this layer Normal (normal), 100%.

Finally, draw a soft white spot to enhance the glow effect.

Next, create another new layer on top of the layers with light effects. Fill this layer with black and then change the blending mode for this layer to Lightening basics (color dodge). When you are on this layer and using a combination of colors, paint yellow and white with a brush around the glow of the lamp and the girl’s dress to add bright highlights to these areas. Use a soft round brush with very low opacity, about 3-5%, paint over the specified areas with strokes. Select all layers with light effects to group them into one group. I called this group ‘Light of the Lamp’.

Step 15

Next, add light highlights on the left arch in the window opening. Create a new layer on top of the лампы Light of the Light ’group. While on this layer, paint over the side wall with an orange brush in the window opening. Use a soft round brush with an opacity of 10-15%. The result I created under the mode Normal (normal), 100%.

Next, duplicate the light effect layer once. Change the blending mode for the first layer to Chromaticity (color), and also reduce the layer opacity to about 30%, and for duplicate layer to Overlap (overlay), the layer opacity is about 75% to get the result, as in the screenshot below:

Step 16

Create a new layer on top of all layers, fill it with black color. Change the blending mode for this layer to Lightening basics (color dodge). While on this layer and using a combination of colors, paint over the side wall in the window opening with a yellow and white brush to add bright light highlights to these areas.

Result.

Step 17

In this step we will strengthen the image of the girl by adding some details. At the beginning, we will add light highlights to the girl’s dress. Create a new layer below the layer with the лампы Light bulb ’group. While on this layer, create an outline, as shown in the screenshot below. Stroke the outline with a white brush, setting the brush diameter to about 1-3px, and also Rigidity (hardness) brush, about 50%.

In the same way, add light highlights to other parts of the girl’s image.

Step 18

Create a new layer. Add light highlights to the girl’s hair. For this, use the Hair Brush.

Step 19

Create another new layer. Add light highlights to the girl’s chin and cheek.

Add lines to the nose, lips and eyes.

Create a new layer, change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (soft light), add orange highlights to the girl’s nose and cheek.

Finally, create another new layer. Change the blending mode for this layer to Chromaticity (color). While on this layer, paint over the girl’s lips with a red brush.

Step 20

Add light highlights to the image of the lamp, adding light highlights to certain areas, which are indicated in the screenshot below.

Step 21

Next, in the same way, add light highlights in red around the legs and the girl’s dress.

Step 22

In conclusion, we will conduct a general color correction of the whole picture. Add a new adjustment layer Selective color correction (selective color) on top of all layers.

Duplicate the adjustment layer Selective color correction (selective color) once. Switch to the layer mask of the original adjustment layer. Selective color correction (selective color) and using a soft black brush, hide the correction around the girl’s image. Set the blending mode for this adjustment layer to Normal (normal), layer opacity is 100%. Further. go to layer mask duplicate adjustment layer Selective color correction (selective color) and using a soft black brush, hide the correction on the wall and the girl. Set the blend mode for duplicate adjustment layer to Normal (normal), layer opacity 60%.

Step 23

As an additional touch, I decided to add a shimmer to the girl’s belt.

Step 24

Make sure you are on the topmost layer in the layers palette. Next, press the keys (Shift + Ctrl + Alt + E) to create a merged layer from all visible layers. As a result, we get the combined layer, which will be located on top of all other layers. Convert this layer to a Smart Object. Next, go Filter – Sharpness – Contour Sharpness (Filter> Sharp> Unsharp mask). Set the values that are shown in the screenshot below. This filter will add sharpness to the image.

Congratulations, we have completed the lesson!
