Lost love

When love fades, it sheds dead petals, and its dry sharp thorns leave the heart full of wounds and bloody tears in the desert of solitude … (free translation)

My first surreal landscape !! Not sure that it is very pleasant! But I hope you find something useful in it.

Resources:

Step 1. Open the image of the desert and duplicate it. In the filter Distortion change the settings in Lens Correction Correction:

Add a layer mask and a soft black brush, erase some areas as shown below:

Step 2. Create two new adjustment layers:
Curves (Curves):

Gradient Map:

On the layer with Gradient Map (Gradient Map) change the blending mode to Overlay and lower the opacity by 30%:

Step 3. Open the image of the girl. I cut only the face and placed it in the desert. Name the layer “Face”.

Create a new layer under the face layer and, using a soft black brush, draw a shadow from the face. Change the opacity depending on the location of the shadow, the shadow under the face (higher opacity) and the shadow next to the face (lower opacity) to match the lighting in the background.

Step 4. To create a “plastic” effect, I duplicated the layer with the face, and applied a filter to it Blurring on the surface (Surface Blur):

Step 5. Now we will correct the lighting on the face. Right-click on the copy of the face layer and add Inner Shadow:

After this step, we see unwanted light in some areas:

To remove it, right-click on the copy of the face layer to bring up the layer styles.

Right click on the effect. Inner shadow(Inner shadow) and select Create layer(Create layer):

Now we have a layer with Inner Shadow for a normal layer with an option Clipping Mask:

Add a Layer mask (Layer mask), to erase bright areas, as shown in previous screenshots.

Step 6. To darken the part of the face that is in the dark part of the background, I create a new adjustment layer Curves (Curves) above the layer with a copy of the face. Make sure it is on Clipping Mask. So Curves (Curves) will only affect the copy of the face layer.

Step 7. Create a new layer at the top. Use the tool Pen (Pen tool) To create a trickle, activate the selection and fill it with color 560303, as shown in the figure below. The result was blood flowing from the eyes (to make the blood look softer and more realistic, when highlighting, set the radius of feathering to 1)

Add the following layer style for blood:

Add a layer mask and erase the part next to the eye with a soft black brush:

Create a new layer using a similar technique, draw a drop of blood that fell from the eyes of the desert:

Step 8. Cut out the spikes and place them on the right side of the image:

To adjust the lighting on the spikes, I used layer styles Inner shadow (InnerShadow) and Inner glow (InnerGlow):

Duplicate this layer and transform it as shown below:

Step 9. Cut out the heart and place at the top of the spikes. Place this layer under the spiked layer.

As with the spikes, apply Inner shadow (InnerShadow) and Inner glow (InnerGlow), To fix the lighting of the heart:

Create a new adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) with option Clipping Mask, as in step 6.

We made it:

Go back to the spiked layer, add Layer mask (Layermask) and erase some areas so that your heart looks like a pierced thorn:

Step 10. Create a new layer at the top. Take a brush with seams, select the color 560303 and process the heart, and then change the layer blending mode to Multiplication (Multipy), 100% opacity:

Step 11. Create a new layer and change the blending mode to Hard light opacity is 100%. Use cracked brushes, color 3a3739, for facial:

Step 12. Take a soft brush, color 560303, and on a new layer, with blending mode Multiplication (Multipy) and 40% opacity, darken lips:

Step 13. Open the image with rose petals. Select some of them and place them in the desert, remember the transformation:

Merge all layers with petals and apply a layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow):

To give the petals a “dead” effect, I created a new adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) above the petals layer, turned on Clipping Mask and reduced brightness and saturation:

Step 14. Create a new layer above the layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) with option Clipping Mask. Use a soft brush to paint the spots on the petals, as shown below:

Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light 100% opacity:

Step 15. Create several new adjustment layers:
Color balance (ColorBalance):
Mid Tones (Midtones): 8, 8, 8
Shadows (Shadows): -1, 3, 10
Light (Hightlights): 8, 4, -16

New fill layer with 2919c0 color, blending mode Soft light (Softlight) and 10% opacity.

Hue / Saturation:

Step 16. Merge all visible layers. Use the tool Lasso (Lasso Tool), to highlight part of the desert near the horizon, with 40 feathering.

Copy the selection, and then apply Gaussian Blur (Gassian) blur) With a radius of 8 pixels, lower the opacity to 50%:

Add a layer mask and remove the blur effect from the spikes.

Step 17. The final touch! Merge visible layers. Select an area as shown below:

Apply Gaussian Blur (Gassian) blur) with a radius of 4 pixels and then change the blending mode to Soft light and lower the opacity to 50%:
