Make a collage in the Game of Thrones style in Photoshop

Today you will learn how to create a photo manipulation based on the series “Game of Thrones”. In this lesson you will find detailed instructions on how to compose an image, add snow and light, and how to collage.

Step 1. Create a new file.

Open Photoshop and select an option at the top of the screen. File > New (File> New). Specify Width (Width): 2249 and Height (Height): 2000

Step 2. Model

Place the model in our document and, if necessary, change its size. I decided to change the size. To do this, press the key combination Ctrl + T and holding the key Shift, pull the corner of the frame. The most important thing is to hold the key. Shift, simply, therefore, the image will decrease proportionally.

Step 3. Isolation

Now you need to select a model. You can select it with the tool Pen Tool (Pen) or instrument PolygonalLassoTool (Polygonal lasso).

Step 4. Layer Mask

Without removing the selection, add a layer mask to hide the background. You should have it as shown below. You can find the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers panel.

Step 5. Duplicate the layer

Duplicate the model layer and change the layer’s overlay mode to Softlight (Soft light) to add more contrast. Decrease Opacity (Opacity) up to 60%, and Fill (fill) up to 85%.

Step 6. Leather

Now select only the face and hands of the model using the tool LassoTool (Lasso), as you did before.

Now reduce the saturation of the skin to give it a pale tone. Press the key combination Ctrl + U, to open the parameters window Hue/Saturation (Hue / Saturation) and in the settings reduce Saturation (Saturation) to -25:

Step 7. Cloak

Now you must discolor the cloak. To do this, go to the layer with the model, take the tool Lasso Tool (Lasso) and highlight the cloak. Then, without removing the selection, press the key combination Ctrl + J, to duplicate the selection.

Step 8. Reduce cloak saturation

Press the key combination Ctrl + U, to open the parameters window Hue/Saturation (Hue / Saturation) and fully reduce Saturation (Saturation). Click OK to save the changes.

Step 9. Warp the cape.

Duplicate the coat layer by pressing the key combination Ctrl + J. Now we deform the cloak to give it movement. To do this, press the combination Ctrl + T and select the option Warp (Deformation). Do not worry, if the raincoat looks imperfect, you can hide unnecessary details using a layer mask.

Step 10. Make the cape darker.

To make the cape darker, you need to duplicate the layer and change the blending mode to Soft light (Soft light), and you will get something like this:

Step 11. Background

Tip: Before you continue working with the model, it is important to add a background. You may ask yourself why? Well, if you have a background, you can already understand where the light will fall from, since the lighting this is what makes your work realistic.

Since we are going to make a winter scene, blue and blue shades are more suitable here, and with their help you can create something like this:

Step 12. The sky

Add an image of the sky and change the blending mode to Soft Light (Soft light) to get a textural background.

Step 13. Mountains

Now add an image with mountains to the background. As before, resize the image with the mountains, if necessary, and change the blending mode to Soft Light (Soft light).

Step 14. Light

Create a new layer and paint it with a dark color. If you use a tablet, adjust the brush opacity to the sensitivity of your tablet. When working, use a soft round brush.

Step 15. Soft light

Change the blending mode of this layer to Soft Light (Soft light) to get such a result.

Step 16. Colors

Create a new layer, change the blending mode to Soft Light (Soft light) and paint the upper part with yellow and orange tones; you can also add black and blue color around the model with a soft round brush. It is important to mix colors to get the desired result. After reduce Opacity (opacity) by about 20%.

This is how the layer will look like in the mode Normal (Normal mode). You can also use Gaussian blur (Gaussian blur) (Menu – Filter – Blur – Gaussian blur(Menu – Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur) to give a softer look.

Step 17. Colors

To add drama to our work, use an image from sunrise and place it on top of the background image.

Step 18. Gaussian Blur

Now go to Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur). Set the blur radius to 100 pixels. Click OK to save the changes.

Change the layer’s overlay mode to Soft Light (Soft light).

Step 19. Model

After we have made the background, we return to work with the model.

Tip: If you have a tablet, then use it to achieve the best result. But this does not mean that you will not be able to continue work if you do not have it.

Now we need to fix some details, namely the fur on the coat. To do this, select a small soft round brush and select the desired color (you can use the tool Eyedropper tool (Pipette) to take a sample of the color from the fur), then begin to paint the fur along the edge. Adjust the brush opacity to the sensitivity of your tablet.

Step 20. Leather

Using tool tool Eyedropper tool (Pipette) Take a color sample from the skin of the model, then with a tool BrushTool (Brush) paint over the girl’s face and hands, to do this, create a new layer and use a soft round brush.

Step 21. Makeup

Now add a little blush and lip saturation. To do this, create a new layer and change the blending mode to Multiply (Multiply) and select pink color.

Step 22. Eyeshadow

Now let’s do the shadows. To do this, simply paint them so as to darken the make-up of the model on the outer corners of the eyes, as well as on the eyelids and in a lighter color to walk along the lower part of the eyelid, along the eyelashes. This step is hard to explain, so you can experiment with colors. Below in the screenshot you will see how to do this. Draw everything with a soft round brush using natural colors.

Step 23. Eyeliner

Now take a very small brush, about the size of 3 px and draw arrows on the eyes of the model, and you can also draw the eyebrows of the model to make them darker. Like that:

Step 24. Eyelashes

Also use a small round brush to paint the eyelashes, while setting Opacity (Opacity) brushes at 100%.

Step 25. Hair

Choose a soft round brush of 1 px in size, then red or orange shades paint the model’s hair.

After you finish your hair work, you should have this result:

Step 26. Duplicate hair

Duplicate the hair layer by pressing Ctrl + J, and turn it white.

Decrease Opacity (Opacity) up to 80%, and Fill (Fill) up to 50%.

Step 27. Details

Finish the hair around the edges, because when you select, we have a clear border on the hair.

Step 28. Nails

Choose a hard round brush and take a dark shade, then paint over the nails on the model’s hands.

Step 29. Reflection

Using a soft round brush, set Opacity (opacity) 75%, paint a small glare on the nail with a gray color, the size of the brush should be approximately 3 px.

Step 30. Ball

Put the image with the ball in the work, then create a layer mask and hide the background.

Step 31. Screen

Open adjustment layer Hue/Saturation (Hue / Saturation) (Ctrl + U) and in the settings reduce Saturation (Saturation) to -100.

Change layer blending mode to Screen (Screen).

Step 32. Change the size of the ball.

Press the key combination Ctrl + T and change the size of the ball to fit the hands of the model.

Step 33. Layer Mask

Hide on the layer mask those parts of the ball that are above the model’s fingers.

Step 34. Paint the ball

Paint the ball with white using a soft round brush, while Opacity (Opacity) brush should be low, approximately 25%.

Step 35. Shadow

In order to make a shadow from the ball, you need to create a new layer and a black brush, about 25% opacity, draw a shadow on your hands. The blend mode of the layer needs to be changed to Overlay (Overlap).

Step 36. Snow

To add snow to the ball, use the Snow brush.

Now you need to draw it inside the ball.

Step 37. Snow in the background

Now draw the falling snow. You can use the same brush as before, but you will need to resize it. The first layer of snow will be on top of the background, but behind the model.

Change brush settings, increase Spacing (Interval) and also Scattering (Scattering).

Step 38. Motion Blur

To make the snow look realistic, add motion blur to the snow flakes (Menu – Filter – Blur – Motion blur (Menu – Filter – Blur – Blur in motion)). Install Angle (Angle): 30 and Distance (Offset): 28.

Step 39. Layer Settings

Decrease Opacity (Opacity) up to 50%, and Fill (Fill) up to 70%.

Step 40. Select the model

To select a model, paint around it with white, using a soft round brush to give a glowing effect.

Step 41. More snow

You still need to add snow in front of the model, so repeat the previous steps, where we created snow, but this time create two layers with snow flakes of almost the same size as before, and another one with larger ones.

Step 42. Snow

Draw the snow on the hair and the raincoat of the model, and also trace the snow on the mountains. To do this, select the chalk brush and white color, reduce the opacity if you want to get a more realistic effect, but this is not necessary. Change the brush settings and also set Scattering (Scattering).

Step 43. Light

On the new layer, draw light on the model, using a soft round brush and selecting orange color, set Opacity (Opacity) brush 30%.

Step 44. Light

Create another layer for the light, but now you need to use white color and set Opacity (Opacity) 65%.

Step 45. White Outline

Choose a 2 px white soft round brush and paint over the silhouette of the model and the ball as follows:

Step 46. Shadows

To draw a shadow, use a black soft brush, increase and decrease the size of the brush if necessary. I set the brush opacity to the sensitivity of the tablet, so if you want the shadow to be darker, you need to press the tablet more strongly on the tablet when drawing or vice versa, if you reduce the pressure, the shadow will turn out to be translucent.

If you do not have a tablet, then you can install Opacity (Opacity) brushes by 20%, and if you want to make the shadow darker, then simply change the opacity to 50%.

Step 47. More Shadows

Make a darker shadow on the hands and on the dress of the model.

Step 48. Add a yellow glow

Using a yellow soft round brush, Opacity (Opacity) 20%, draw a slight glow around the ball and arms. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft Light (Soft light).

Step 49. Light and Shadow

Create a new layer and draw black in the edges of our work, and gray in the middle.

Step 50. Blend Mode

Change the blending mode to Soft Light (Soft light).

Step 51. Search for color

To finish our work, you need to change the color. Click on the icon Create new fill or adjustment layer (Create a new adjustment layer) and select Color lookup (Search color).

Now select “Fall Colors” and reduce Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 50%.

Step 52. Search for color II

Repeat this process, but this time select “Crisp_Warm.look” and reduce Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 30%.
