Making a collage with a magic book in Photoshop

I offer you a new lesson for further study of the program Photoshop, in which we will make a beautiful photomontage of the magic book, using textures, brushes and interesting methods to get the perfect result.

Step 1

Create a new document size 2000? 1500 pixels with a resolution of 72 pixels / inch, color mode – RGB colors of 8 bits, open the book image and paste into your document.

Step 2

Duplicate the book layer (Ctrl + J) and change the layer’s overlay mode to Lightening basics (Color Dodge).

Then take the tool Eraser (Eraser Tool) (E) and go through it in the highlighted red area.

Step 3

Now paste the following texture into your document and position it as in the image below:

And change the layer’s overlay mode to Screen (Screen).

Then duplicate the texture layer by pressing Ctrl + J.

Step 4

Now, open and paste in our working paper, in the center of the book, the following light texture:

After that, change the layer blending mode to Hard light (Hard Light):

Step 5

Open another light texture and paste it into our document, change the layer blending mode to Screen (Screen).

Step 6

Now add a color search adjustment layer to change the color mood: Layers (Layers) New Adjustment Layer (New adjustment layer) –Color search (Color Lookup) – Futuristic.Black.3dl

Translator’s Note: Correction layer Color search (Color Lookup) is available in Photoshop CS6, if you do not have this function, then try using a correction layer. Color tone / Saturation (Hue / saturation), and reduce saturation to -50

Step 7

Then create a new layer, above all other layers: main menu Layers (Layer) – New (New) – Layer (Layer) (Ctrl + Shift + N), take Tool Brush (Brush Tool) (B) with the following parameters:

  • The size(Size): 100 – 300 pixels
  • Hardness(Hardness): 0%
  • Opacity(Opacity): 50%
  • Pressure (Flow): 30%

Then, paint in yellow # f5f0e1 on the selected area:

Step 8

Then, open and insert a light highlight in our work:

Change the blending mode of this layer to Screen (Screen).

Now, open and paste the star nebula above all layers, duplicate the layer: menu – Layers (Layer) – Duplicate layer (Duplicate Layer) (Ctrl + J)

Change the blending mode of these two layers to Lightening basics (Color dodge)

Step 9

Now create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) above all the other layers and paint the letters with the brushes you loaded.

The author creates several layers for letters and symbols, arranging letters on each of the layers in size.

Step 10

Once you have the letters in the right places, right-click on one of these layers and go to Overlay options (Blending Options), open layer style Inner shadow (Inner Shadow), with the following settings:

  • Colour: # ffe99d
  • Opacity (Opacity): 47%
  • Angle (Angle): 120 degrees
  • Bias (Distance): 8px
  • Tightening (Choke): 0 pix.
  • The size (Size): 8 pixels.

Step 11

Then apply the filter: Filter (Filter) – Blur (Blur) – Blur in move (Motion blur) with the following settings:

Repeat the same steps, with layer style and blur to other layers with letters.

Step 12

After that add a gradient map adjustment layer by going to the menu Layers (Layers) – New Adjustment Layer (New adjustment layer) Map gradient (Gradient Map) with colors: # 290a59 and # ff7c00, then change the blending mode of the layer to Overlap (Overlay)

Hold down the Alt button, activate the gradient map adjustment layer mask, select Tool Gradient (Gradient Tool) (G), set the colors: from light gray (# b5b5b5) to dark gray (# 323232) and draw a radial gradient on the layer mask, as in the image below:

Step 13

Now add a color search adjustment layer to change the color mood: Layers (Layers) New Adjustment Layer (New adjustment layer) Color search (Color Lookup) – Futuristic.Black.3dl

Step 14

Finally, change the blending mode of the Color Search layer to Hard light (Hard Light), and reduce opacity (Opacity) up to 65%.
