Mysterious ghost in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a floating face with fiery hair.


Attention: If in the fourth step you have problems, I advise you to watch the video tutorial by reference.

Step 1

Create a new document with a size of 1280 x 800 px with a black background. We load the Ground image into Photoshop (the source used in the lesson is no longer available, so you can choose one of the suggested ones or find another one). Select the required area of ​​land, copy it (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) on the working document. Then press Ctrl + T and distort in perspective, as shown below:

Soft eraser (E) remove the top edge:

Add three adjustment layers for ground:

Black and white (Black and white)

Levels (Levels)

Adjustment Layer Mask Levels (Levels):

Curves (Curves)

We get the following result:

Step 2

Open the model photo in Photoshop and select the face:

Copy and paste the selected area on the working paper, soft eraser (E) we refine the edges:

Then soft eraser large diameter remove part of the face, as shown below:

Step 3

Add three adjustment layers and transform them into clipping masks for the face layer (Ctrl + Alt + G):

Black and white (Black and white)

Levels (Levels)

Curves (Curves)

Curves Correction Mask (Curves):

We get the following result:

Step 4

Via Cloud filter (Clouds) or special brushes add around the face of the cloud model:

Now we add a texture with sparks. Cut out the necessary area:

We deform the sparks, as shown below, and change the layer’s blend mode to Screen (Lightening):

Apply adjustment layers to the texture:

And we get the following result:

Next, apply the filter Filter – Distort – Twirl (Filter – Distortion – Twisting) with such parameters:

Press Ctrl + F several times to reapply the filter:

Duplicate the layer several times (Ctrl + J) and merge the copies together (Ctrl + E). Then duplicate the merged layer several times and place copies around the face:

Step 5

As a final touch, add particles using the brush from this lesson:

Go back to the source with the fire and cut out more sparks:

Tip: don’t forget to change the blending mode of the sparks layer to Screen (Lightening).

Then using corrective layers Selective color (Selective color correction) and Curves (Curves) add colors and the composition is ready!
