From this lesson you will learn how to make your skin matte and smooth, like the models on the covers of glossy magazines.
Here is a photo of a young girl who really wants to get on the cover of the magazine. But with such irregularities on the skin, nobody will let her in there.
The only one who can help her is Photoshop.

Open the image in Photoshop, duplicate it.
Remove any bumps in the skin with a Healing / Repairing brush. . If you do not know how to use it, then see this lesson.
As soon as you finish working with the tool , duplicate the layer again and apply to it Filter – Noise – Dust and Scratches (Filter> Noise> Dust Scratches)
For my example, I used the following settings:
radius 5 px and threshold 0.
But know that the settings depend on the quality of the photo.
As a result, we should get a soft blur of the image, like this:
The next filter we will use is Gaussian blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur)
And again, the settings at your discretion, I have a radius = 2.
And the final step in creating a new matte skin is adding another filter. Noise – Add Noise (Filter> Noise> Add Noise).
We all know that human skin cannot be perfectly smooth. Thanks to this filter, the skin will take the desired texture and will look more realistic.
I used monochrome noise in quantity 0.7%.
New skin for the model is ready!
At the bottom of the layers palette, click on the button Add a layer mask (Add a layer mask). A white square will appear next to the layer.
Take , Set the black color and click on the document.
If not, then make sure that the main color is black, then press Alt + Backspace
What will happen? The “muddy” layer will hide, and the bottom “clear” will appear.
And now the most interesting part begins! Now we will impose a perfectly smooth skin on the model. To do everything right, listen to the following guidelines:
Take the Brush tool, make sure that the white color is selected. Set the brush stiffness to 0. You can also reduce its transparency. (It will be better if you go back to the settings in the process and adjust them as necessary)
So, we are on the layer mask.
Your task is to paint with a white brush in those places where the skin needs to be renewed, but not to touch the eyes, eyebrows, lips, hair, so that they do not lose their sharpness.
If you accidentally paint over the excess, then switch to a black brush and fix it all.
Here is what you should have at the end of plastic work:
The skin of the girl has a pleasant color, so we will not apply any color settings.
But if you have a different situation, then remember that there are such parameters as Hue / saturation, photo filter, color balance, which will always be happy to help you.
And now we add some sharpness to our image.
Duplicate the middle layer, I have called “heal brush”. Change his blend mode to Overlap (Overlay).
Apply Filter – Other – Color Contrast (Filter> Other> High Pass)
Set the radius to your liking, remember that you can always reduce the transparency of this layer.
I’m sure you noticed how clear your eyes were!
Here is what we finally got:
If you want to add even more chic, then follow on.
Merge all layers except the last one (so that it would be interesting to see how it was and how it became)
Duplicate the top layer, change the blending mode to Overlay. It will be like this:
Add a Gaussian Blur filter:
Add a layer mask and remove the blur with a black brush from the hair to leave them shine.
Add a bit of sharpness. Apply Filter – Sharpness – Contour Sharpness (Sharp – Unsharp mask) 2 times.
The result is such an oriental beauty:
The most favorite is the final comparison:
