Baseline materials:

Step 1

Create a new document with dimensions of 900×1080 px, fill it with black color. Press the keys (Ctrl + Shift + N) to create a new layer. Next, press the key (G) to activate the tool. Gradient (Gradient Tool), select Linear Gradient (Linear Gradient), gradient color # 02101b and # 03243b:

Step 2

Let’s go Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Color Balance (Layer-New Adjustment Layer-Color Balance):

Step 3

Download the Starry Sky texture set. I chose the first texture. Using tool Move (Move tool (V), move the selected texture to our working document. Apply scaling to this texture, and then change the blending mode to Lightening basics (Color Dodge), 100% layer opacity:

Duplicate the starry sky texture layer, and then reduce the opacity of the duplicate layer to 50%. Add a layer mask to the duplicate layer and using a soft black brush with an opacity of about 40-50% blur some areas of the stars:

Step 4

I decided to darken the sky a little at the edge of the image, for this, create a new layer. Choose a soft brush, brush color # 032037 to paint over the edges of the image. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (Soft Light), 70%:

Step 5

Let’s go Layer- New Adjustment Layer – Curves (Layer-New Adjustment Layer-Curves) to darken our image a bit. Next, select a soft black brush with an opacity of about 30% to hide the effect of the correction on the layer mask of the adjustment layer, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 6

Cut out the image of the moon. Move this image to our working paper, placing it at the top of our composition. Change the blending mode for the layer with the Moon to Lightening (Screen), 100%:

Step 7

In this step we will add a glow effect to the image of the moon, for this I used the option Layer Styles (Layer Style). Double-click on the layer with the Moon and in the window that appears, select the options Inner shadow (Inner Shadow) and External glow (Outer Glow):

Open the stock image of the Tree. Since the image of the tree has a transparent background, then you can simply move the image of the tree to our working paper. I positioned the image of the tree in the upper right of the scene:

For the color correction of wood, I used adjustment layers as a clipping mask. Let’s go Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Color Balance (Layer-New Adjustment Layer-Color Balance):

Photo Filter (Photo Filter) and Curves (Curves):

Step 9

Move the stock image of paving stones to our working paper, placing it at the bottom of the scene, apply the transformation (Ctrl + T) to the image of paving stones:

Add adjustment layers to the pavement layer Color Balance (Color Balance) Curves (Curves), Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) and Photo Filter (Photo Filter) as a clipping mask to change the color of the pavers, as well as to darken it:

Step 10

Create a selection around the hedge image. Next, move the selected image of the hedge to our working paper, setting it on the pavement:

Create a new layer below the hedge layer. Using a soft black brush, paint the hedge shadows on the surface of the paving stones:

Step 11

Add adjustment layers to the hedge layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation), Color Balance (Color Balance) Curves (Curves) as a clipping mask to darken the hedge and color correction:

Being on the layer mask of the adjustment layer Curves (Curves), using a soft black brush, blur the effect of darkening in the upper part of the fence (because this part of the fence gives light from the moon):

Step 12

Create a new layer, then, using a soft black brush, paint over the lower part of the hedge to darken this part. Change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (Overlay), layer opacity 80%:

Step 13

Highlight the image of the bench. Move the selected image of the bench on our working paper, placing on the pavement:

Create a new layer below the bench layer. Using a soft black brush, draw the shadows from the bench on the pavement:

Step 14

Add adjustment layers to the bench layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation), Curves (Curves) and Photo Filter (Photo Filter) as clipping masks:

Step 15

Create a new layer as a clipping mask for the layer with the bench. Choose a soft brush, brush color # 727b7b. Using this brush, paint over the bench seat. Change the blending mode for this layer to Multiplication (Multipy), 100% layer opacity:

Step 16

Create a shade from a bench on a hedge. For this, I used the option Layer styles (Layer Style) parameter Shadow (Drop Shadow):

Step 17

Create a selection around the image of the girl, and then move the selected image of the girl to our working document. Position the image of the girl in such a way as if she is sitting on a bench:

Step 18

Create a new layer below the girl layer. Choose a soft black brush. Using this brush, draw the girl’s shadow on the bench:

Step 19

To darken and color correct the girls, I used adjustment layers Curves (Curves) and Photo Filter (Photo Filter) as clipping masks:

Step 20

Create a new layer, change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (Overlay), the opacity of the layer is 100%, and then fill this layer Gray 50% (50% gray):

Choose a tool Clarifier / Dimmer (Dodge Burn). Install Range (Range) Mid tones (Midtones) and Exposure (Exposure) approximately 20-25% for adding details to the image of the girl. In the screenshot below, you can see the treatment areas under the Normal (Normal) and the result of processing when Overlap (Overlay):

Step 21

In this step, I used adjustment layers. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) and Colour (Color Fill) as a clipping mask to darken the image of the girl:

Step 22

Create a selection around the teddy bear image, and then move the highlighted bear image to our working paper. Place the bear to the right of the girl:

Create a shadow from the bear:

Step 23

Add adjustment layers to the teddy bear layer. Photo Filter (Photo Filter) and Curves (Curves) as a clipping mask:

Step 24

Create a new layer with the settings that were used in Step 20. Use the tool Dimmer (Burn Tool), darken the outline of the bear:

Step 25

Create a new layer. Choose a soft black brush to darken the pavement again. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft topT (Soft Light), 50%:

Step 26

Next, we will correct the entire image. Create the following adjustment layers on top of all layers. Curves (Curves), Selective color correction (Selective color), Gradient Map (Gradient Map):

Change the blending mode for the adjustment layer. Gradient Map (Gradient Map) on Soft light (Soft Light), 100%.

Next, go to the layer mask of the adjustment layer. Selective color correction (Selective Color) to hide the effect of correction on the image of the moon using a soft black brush:

Step 27

Using tool Dimmer / Clarifier (Dodge Burn), correct the details on the image of the girl and the tree:

Step 28

Create a selection around the image of the lantern, then move the selected image of the lantern to our working document. Place the lantern to the left of the girl:

Using the adjustment layer Curves (Curves), darken flashlight images:

Step 29

In this step, we will add light effects to the image of the flashlight, as well as around it. Create a new layer on top of all layers. Choose a soft brush, brush color # 533e05. Using this brush, paint over the lantern, and then change the blending mode for this layer to Linear Dodge (Linear Dodge), 100% layer opacity:

Create a new layer, set the brush color to # f9e8ac to enhance the light of the flashlight. Change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (Overlay), opacity 100%:

Create two more new layers using the same brush, paint over the image of the lantern, on top of some sections of the bench, hedges, girls facing the lantern. Change the blending mode for these layers to Soft light (Soft Light), 100% layer opacity:

Step 30

Create a new layer, set the brush color to # e3b76a, the brush size is approximately 2-4 px. Add light highlights to the girl’s image:

Step 31

Final step: Create a new layer. Apply the tool Linear gradient (Linear Gradient Tool), default gradient color black and white (black and white). Change the blending mode for the gradient layer to Soft light (Soft Light), layer opacity is 100%. Using the layer mask, hide the effect on the areas that are shown in the screenshot below:
