Step 1

Open the stock image ‘Room’. We do not need the whole room, but only part of the room. Choose a tool Frame (Crop Tool (C). With this tool, select part of the room, as shown in the screenshot below:

Duplicate the layer with a part of the background, apply a filter to the duplicate layer. Blur by Gauss(Gaussian Blur), let’s go Filter – Blur – Blur by Gauss(Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur):

To duplicate the blur layer, add layer mask. And then using a soft black brush about 300-400 px in size (depending on the size of your working image), hide the blur effect in the upper part of the scene and in the middle (leaving only the lower part blurred):

This action aims to add depth of field to the scene.

Step 2

Create a new layer (Ctrl + Sift + N). Using a soft white brush, paint in the upper right corner, because I plan that the light source will be located on the right. Change the blending mode to Soft light (Soft Light), layer opacity 50%:

Step 3

Open the stock image ‘Girl’. Select the image of the girl (just do not select the image of the balloon), and then move the selected image of the girl to our working paper. Move the image of the girl a little to the right from the center of the scene:

Step 4

Create a new layer on top of the layer with the girl as a clipping mask. Using a soft white brush, brighten the right side of the girl. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (Soft Light), 100%:

Step 5

Create another new layer on top of the layer with the girl as a clipping mask. Choose a tool Blur (Blur Tool (R), set the value Intensity (Strength) by about 50%, and then soften the area that is highlighted in the screenshot below (in the tool settings, do not forget to tick the option Sample of all layers (Sample All Layers):

Step 6

Add a correction layer to the girl layer Color he / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) as a clipping mask to reduce the saturation of the image of the girl. Let’s go Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation (Layer-New Adjustment Layer-Hue / Saturation):

Step 7

Open the stock image ‘Fish 1’. You can use an alternative image of the fish, if you can not download the original image on the website Photoxpress. Cut out the image of the fish, and then move the selected image of the fish to our working paper. Zoom out the fish by positioning it at the right edge of the scene:

Add a correction layer to the fish layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) as a clipping mask to change the color of the fish 1:

Step 8

Open the stock image ‘Fish 2’. Cut out the image of the fish, and then move the selected image of the fish to our working paper. Position the image of the fish 2 below the image of the fish 1:

To the fish layer 2, add two new adjustment layers as clipping masks to change the color and brightness of the fish 2 image.

Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation):

Curves (Curves):

Step 9

Open the stock image ‘Umbrella’. Since given an image with a transparent background, then you just need the Move tool

(Move Tool (M) to move the umbrella image onto our working document. Apply scaling as well as transformation (Ctrl + T), as shown in the screenshot below:

Place the umbrella layer below the fish layer. Name this layer “umbrella 1”. Double duplicate the umbrella layer, reduce the scale of duplicates with umbrellas. Place duplicate umbrellas over the fish:

Name duplicates with umbrellas “umbrella 2”, “umbrella 3”.

Step 10

Select all layers with umbrellas, and then press the keys (Ctrl + G) to group them into one group. Change the blending mode for this layer with the group from the mode Skip (Pass Through (overlay mode for default group) per mode Normal (Normal), 100%.

On the ‘umbrella 3’ layer inside the group, go Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation (Layer-New Adjustment Layer-Hue / Saturation).

Since we changed the blending mode for this group to mode Normal (Normal), 100% (rather than leaving mode Skip (Pass Through) then this adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) will only affect the layers within this group (umbrella ’).

Step 11

To layer with ‘umbrella 1’, add a layer mask. Using a layer mask, hide the umbrella handle:

Next, go to the layer with the girl. Using a layer mask, lightly process the fingers of a girl’s hand.

Result:

Step 12

Next we add the shadow that falls from the girl. Since the main light source is located behind and to the right, then the shadow should fall in front of the girl and to the left.

Create a new layer below the girl layer. Load a selection of the image of the girl by holding down the (Ctrl) key + click on the thumbnail of the layer with the girl:

Fill the active selection with black. Next, cancel the active selection (Ctrl + D). Using transformation (Ctrl + T), transform the shadow, as shown in the screenshot below:

Apply a filter to the shadow layer. Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur), blur radius 3 px. Reduce the opacity of the shadow layer to 30%:

Step 13

Open the stock image ‘Chair’. Separate the image of the chair from the background. Move the selected chair image to our working paper. Apply scaling. Position the image of the chair on the left side of our scene. Arrange the chair in such a way as to create the feeling that it is swimming under water:

Add a correction layer to the chair layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) as a clipping mask to reduce the saturation of the image of the chair:

Step 14

Add a shadow to the chair just as you added a shadow to the girl, but do not forget that the chair is swimming under water, which means that the shadow should be placed away from the chair, and the shadow itself should be bigger:

Step 15

Create a new layer as a clipping mask on top of the adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) that you added in Step 13. Press the (G) key to activate the Gradient tool (Gradient Tool), gradient type Linear Gradient (Linear Gradient), default gradient colors (black and white):

Change the blending mode for the gradient layer to Soft light (Soft Light), layer opacity 30%. Add a layer mask to the layer with a gradient and on the layer mask of the layer, hide the gradient on the left side of the chair to darken this side, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 16

Open the stock image ‘Book’. Separate the image of the book from the background. Move the selected book image to our working paper. Apply the transformation. Place the book image in the lower right side of our scene:

Since the book is in a blurred area, then the book should also be blurred. Filter the book layer Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur), blur radius 2 px:

Add a shadow to the book (mode Normal (Normal), the layer opacity is 20%, because the book is swimming under water).

Step 17

Add two adjustment layers to the book layer as clipping masks.

Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation):

Color Balance (Color Balance):

Step 18

Open the stock image ‘Cup. Select the image of the cup, and then move the selected image of the cup to our working paper. Place the cup in the lower left corner of the picture, and then blur the cup, as we did with the book:

Add shadows in the cup:

Step 19

Add a correction layer to the cup layer. Curves (Curves) as a clipping mask to change the color, as well as reduce the brightness of the image:

Step 20

In this step, we will add a candle to our scene, placing it in the lower central part of the composition, blur the candle, add shadows, perform color correction, as you did in the previous steps:

Set the foreground color to white. Choose one of the Smoke brushes. Draw smoke over the top of the candle.

Apply a filter to the smoke layer. Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur), blur radius 3 px:

Step 22

Add a clock to our scene. Place the clock in the upper left corner of the picture. Add a correction layer to the clock layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) as a clipping mask:

Step 23

Next, we will add shadows to the clock using Layer styles (Layer Style). Double-click on the layer with the clock or right-click on the layer with the clock and in the window that appears, select the option Options overlay(Blending Options):

You can see that I chose the direction of the shadow according to the main light source.

Step 24

Create a new layer, select the Bubbles brush, the foreground color is also white. I chose the brush number 495. Press the key (F5) to enter the brush settings:

Draw bubbles around the girl’s legs, around her body and head, as well as around a book, a candle, a chair, a fish:

We have some bubbles located in a blurred area (in the foreground), so we should also blur them. Create a new layer as a clipping mask for the bubble layer. Using tool Blur (Blur tool) value Intensity (Strength) about 20%, blur the bubbles in the specified area:

Step 25

In this and the next steps we will add the effect of water to our picture. Create a new layer on top of all layers. Create a selection, and then fill the selection with a color tint # 538594:

Reduce the opacity of the filled layer to 30%, and then using a layer mask, hide the upper part of the fill:

I called this layer “water part 1”.

Step 26

Open the stock image ‘Sea’. Highlight part of the image with a wave, radius feathering (feather) = 35:

Move the selected part of the sea to our working paper, placing it on top of the water that we added in the previous step. Apply scaling:

Reduce the layer opacity to 30%:

Name this layer “water part 2”.

Group all layers of water in one group (do not forget to change the blending mode for this layer with the group to Normal (Normal), 100%).

Step 27

Inside the created group, add an adjustment layer to slightly reduce the saturation of the water image:

Create a new layer on top of all layers. Using the Water brush, brush number 792, paint over the top edge of the water, apply the transformation, hide the extra areas to get the result, as in the screenshot below:

Create another new layer. Continue brushing over the water surface on the left side of the scene:

Step 29

Create another new layer. Select the brush Water at number 563. Paint the sea surface:

With the help of transformation (Ctrl + T), make the sea surface:

Duplicate the sea smooth layer, move the duplicate to the left:

Step 30

Create a new layer. Select Splatter Drip Brush, brush number 71. Randomly draw over the water surface:

Step 31

In this step, we will create a rain effect. To create a rain effect, you can use Water or Spray Dabs, but I would prefer to create this effect myself. Create a new layer, fill it with black. Next we go Filter – Noise – Add noise(Filter-Noise-Add Noise):

Press the keys (Ctrl + L) to adjust the intensity of the noise, as well as the brightness:

Next, go Filter – Blur – Motion Blur (Filter-Blur-Motion Blur):

Change the blending mode for the rain effect layer to Lightening (Screen), 100%. Using a layer mask, hide the effect in the middle and bottom of the scene:

Duplicate the layer to make the rain effect more visible:

Step 32

Create a new layer on top of all other layers. Using a soft white brush, paint over the right side of the picture. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (Soft Light), layer opacity 70%:

Step 33

Add a few adjustment layers to make a general color correction to the whole picture.

Gradient Map (Gradient Map):

Change the blending mode for the adjustment layer. Gradient Map (Gradient Map) on Soft light (Soft Light), 100%.

Color Balance (Color Balance):

Selective color correction (Selective color):

Step 34

Create a new layer, select the tool. Radial Gradient (Radiant Gradient Tool), gradient black and white colors:

Change the blending mode for the gradient layer to Soft light (Soft Light), 100%. Using a layer mask, hide the part of the gradient on the right side of the scene:

Step 35

Final step: add a new adjustment layer Levels (Levels) on top of all layers to enhance the contrast a bit:
