Have you ever tried to create photo manipulations? In essence, this is an art form, where ordinary photographs turn into something unexpected and completely beyond the ordinary. In this lesson, we will reverse this process! You will learn how to create a cool effect of drawing your image. Using the Brush tool, we will create a copy of ourselves by drawing a sketch of our twin. Since the graphics tablet is best suited for this lesson, I will use the Wacom Intous 3 tablet in the part of the lesson that is entirely devoted to drawing. So let’s get started!
Program: Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended
Note: The author used paid images. In the archive with the materials for the lesson you will find previews and links to the materials used. However, you can easily repeat this lesson using your own photos.
The author of the lesson uses the tablet rather out of habit than because of urgent need. The outline of the picture can be created using the Pen tool and / or filters (for example, a lesson We draw with color pencils in Photoshop)
Open both source images with your objects in Photoshop. Change the size of one of the images to 10? 11.5 inches (inches). Copy (Copy) / paste (Paste) the second image on the document with the first image.
Using tool Magic wand (Magic Wand (W)) highlight the white background on one of the images. Press the ‘delete’ key to remove the background. Do the same with the second image, so both images will be without a background. Using tool Free transformation (Free Transform Tool (Ctrl + T)) apply scaling to images, arranging them so that the drawing hand on one of the images overlaps the face of the double.
2. Create a Background
Create a new layer with a white background below the layers with men. Next, create another new layer and select the tool. Rectangular area (Rectangular Marquee Tool (M)).
Create a rectangle at the base of the men’s legs as a floor. Next, with the tool Gradient (Gradient Tool (G)), fill the gradient with a rectangular selection, the color of the gradient from light gray to transparent. Using tool Eraser (Eraser Tool (E)), process the edges.
Open the original image with the brick wall texture. Copy (Copy) / Paste (Paste) this texture on our working paper, placing behind the image of men. Via Free transformation (Free Transform (Ctrl + T)), apply scaling to the texture to fill the remaining space.
3. Draw an image
Go to the layer with the image you want to turn into a drawing. This should be the second image, opposite to the man with the ink pen. Reduce degree Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 50%. Using tool Brush (Brush Tool (B)) draw contour lines on top of the image, creating a sketch, first selecting in the tool settings in the parameter Form Dynamics (Shape Dynamics) option Pen pressure (Pen Pressure).
Continue to create a sketch, but at the same time, painting only half the image, because Not all of the image we will have a contour drawing.
Now let’s create the shadows of our heroes in the background. Hide the sketch layer, back up the degree Opacity (Opacity) for a layer with the image of a man up to 100%. Being on a layer with a man using a tool Magic wand (Magic Wand (W)), select the empty background. Next, right-click on the selected area and in the appeared window select the option Invert selected area (Inverse), to select only the body shape of a man. Create a new layer, fill the selected area with black. Repeat this step for the second image with the man.
For each layer with a shadow, apply a filter Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur). Let’s go Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur), apply a blur radius of 3 px. Reduce degree Opacity (Opacity) layers with shadow up to 15%. Place the layers with the shadows below each layer with the man, so the shadows will fall on the wall.
4. Finishing touches
Turn on the visibility of the draft layer. Once again go to the layer with the image of a man and using the tool Eraser (Eraser Tool (E)) s Toughness (Hardness) 0%, hide the upper half of the body of a man.
Keep using the tool Eraser (Eraser Tool (E)), hiding certain parts of the shadow, in particular, in the lower part of the image near the legs, where the shadow falls on the floor.
The lesson is almost complete! Using tool Brush (Brush Tool (B)), draw a large blue dot (# 52d0ff) on the wall in the background. Position the blue dot layer below the men and shadows layers. Change the blending mode to Linear clarifier (Add) (Linear Dodge (Add)), and also reduce the degree Opacity (Opacity) up to 70%.
Now create a new layer on top of all layers, fill it with a light pink shade (# e019d4). Change the blending mode for this layer to Difference (Difference), and also reduce the degree Opacity (Opacity) for this layer up to 12% to color our photo manipulation.
Once you are done, merge all the layers together.
And that is all! Hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Using this technique, you can transform yourself or your friends into photo manipulation using Photoshop. Good luck, do not hesitate to lay out their work! See you again!
