In this tutorial, we will create volumetric plastic letters using layer styles and a 3D text generator.
Materials for the lesson:
Install the Super Mario font and add it to the shared library. Create a new document in Photoshop with a black background. Tool Horizontal text (Horizontal Type Tool) (T) write “SUPER PSD DUDELAND”. Each word must be on a separate layer.
Change the color of each letter as shown in the screenshot.
Delete the background layer and convert the “PSD” layer into a smart object via the context menu.
Create two copies of the “PSD” layer (Ctrl + J). Apply style to first copy Stroke (Stroke) via the fx icon at the bottom of the layers palette:
Stroke type: Color
Color classification: # 252525
Apply other styles to the second copy:
Casting a shadow (Drop Shadow): Mode – Multiplication.
Stamping (Bevel Emboss):
Style: Inner Bevel
Backlight mode: Brightening
Shadow Mode: Multiplication
Select both copies of the “PSD” layer and convert them into a single smart object. Download the 3D text generator and run the first operation from the set.
The result will be the text shown in the screenshot. We will have to do several operations so that it looks like plastic.
Remove the background layer and go to the styles of the “www.psd-dude.com 3D effect” layer. Turn off the style Color overlay (Color overlay) and change style settings Stamping (Bevel Emboss):
Right click on this layer and select Copy layer style (Copy Layer Style). Then right-click on the “www.psd-dude.com” layer and select Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style). Choose a tool Move (Move Tool) (V) and slide the layer to the left and up.
Repeat the process of creating bulk for other text layers. You can also go in a simpler way. Merge all layers of the word “PSD” into a group. Create two copies of the group, open the smart object with the text itself and change the words.
Since the letters are voluminous and are located above each other, there must be shadows on them. Choose soft brush and draw the shadows as shown in the screenshot.
