In this tutorial, we will create a volumetric letter in the form of a broken stone, using a 3D render, several third-party textures and special brushes.
Final result:
Step 1
Create a new document in Photoshop (Ctrl + N) 800×1120 pixels with black background. If you have a CS6 version or higher, create a letter using the extrusion function.
Or use the ready-made rendered at the beginning of the lesson.
Add a mask to the text layer. Chalk brush and brush with soft edges erase the edges, as shown in the screenshot.
Step 2
Open the texture of concrete in Photoshop. Highlight crack tool Rectangular area (Rectangular Marquee Tool) (M).
Copy it to our document. (Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V). In mode Free transform (Ctrl + T) resize the crack and tilt it so that it passes over the middle of the letter S. Create a clipping mask (Ctrl + Alt + G).
Chalk brush erase the edges of the texture on the mask.
Overlay other areas of stone texture on the letter.
Wipe the edges.

Open the grass image and select a small area.
Transfer the grass to the main document, reduce it and place it on a letter.
Use a soft eraser to connect the grass with the stone.
Add more grass to the stone.
Step 4
Add fog and particles with special brushes.
You can stop at this stage. Next, we slightly change the color atmosphere with the help of a corrective layer.
