A notebook of letters in Photoshop

In this lesson you will learn an easy way to create a card effect for text, you’ll use layer styles, work with shapes, blending modes.

Step 1

Create a new document: File-Create, size: Width 1152 Height 864. Duplicate the background layer by pressing the keys (Ctrl + J). Double click on the copy of the background layer and apply the following parameters:

Color overlay (Color Overlay)

Blend Mode: Multiply (Multiply)

Color classification: 696969

Pattern overlay (Pattern Overlay)

Download the pack of patterns called: “Seamless Paper Patterns” and select the pattern shown in the screenshot below:

And here we have given the style to the background:

Step 2

Using the tool “Horizontal text“(Horizontal Text Type) write any word in English, font “Bevan” color: (e2d8ca).

Double click the left mouse button on the text layer and apply the following parameters:

Stamping (Bevel and Emboss)

Size: 1 (size)

Contour: Linear () tick the checkbox “Smoothing”

Opacity: 50%

Contour

Contour: Half Round

Check the box “Smoothing”

Check the box “Smoothing”

Texture (Texture)

Download a texture called “Beige paper”

Pattern Overlay (Pattern Overlay)

Blend Mode: Multiply (Multiply)

From the pack (Lined Paper Patterns ~ kittenbella) download the pattern “White Lined Notebook Paper”

Shadow (Drop Shadow)

Opacity: 50% (Opacity)

Offset: 20p. (Distance)

And here we have given the initial effect for the text.

Step 3

Right-click on the text layer and select “Rasterize the text“(Rasterize Type). In the future, you will not be able to edit the style of this layer, to do this, go back and make a copy of the already configured text effect, hide it by clicking on the eye icon.

And so, duplicate the rasterized text effect by pressing the keys (Ctrl + J)

Double click on the copy of the rasterized text layer and apply the following parameters:

Shadow (Drop Shadow)

Opacity: 20% (Opacity)

Offset: 5 pixels. (Distance)

Size: 1 pix. (Size)

We changed the Shadow value for the copy of the rasterized layer to a dimmer one.

Duplicate a copy of the rasterized layer 4 more times.

Use the tool “Move (Move Tool). And move each layer to create a surround effect, you can also use the arrow keys on the keyboard.

Step 4

Next use the tool “Ellipse(Ellipse Tool), make sure that you have selected a Shape in the settings of the form. Then in the right side you have a gear icon, click on it and set the following values:

Specified size: 26×26

Below tick the item “From the Center” (Center box)

These settings will help you to create Ellipses of 26×26 pixels.

Now in the settings “Contour operations“select”Subtract front figure“() set the values ​​to 20×20 pixels. Next, click the left mouse button on the ellipse we have already created to subtract the center. And then we have a ring.

Double click on the shape layer and apply the following parameters:

Stamping (Bevel and Emboss)

Gloss Contour: Inverted Cone (Cone – Inverted)

Backlight mode: Bright Light (Vivid Light)

Circuit (Contour)

Contour: Cone (Cone) Check the box “Smoothing”

Gradient Overlay (Gradient Overlay)

Click on the gradient bars and apply the following colors:

Left: 7a3f00 Center: ffdf2f Right: 7a3f00

Shadow (Drop Shadow)

Offset: 3 pixels. (Distance)

Size: 2 pixels. (Size)

You can use any colors for the gradient ring.

Duplicate the shape of the ring as much as you need, and arrange them in the text.

Step 5

Using the tool “Brush(Brush Tool) brush round hard, color: 000000, create a new layer above all layers and name it “Brush”, brush around the center of the ring.

This is how you should do it:

Move the Brush layer over the copy of the background layer, then hold down the Ctrl key and click on the Brush layer thumbnail.

Then, going back a little to the 3rd step, get up on each text layer and press the Delete key. Deselect by holding the Ctrl + D keys.

Step 6

Lower the “Brush” layer’s “Fill” value to 0.

Double click on the Brush layer and apply the following parameters:

Inner shadow (Inner Shadow)

Offset: 7 pix. (Distance)

You can see the shadow under the ring, but you can still see a tiny part of the background.

Step 7

Create a new layer above all layers and name it “Gradient” in the color palette of the foreground color: # 272423, in the Gradient settings the color from # 272423 to transparent, use the tool: “Gradient” (Gradient Tool) Check the box “Inverse” (Reverse) Gradient “Radial” (Radial).

And draw a line from the center to one of the corners.

Set the blending mode for the “Gradient” layer to “Soft light“(Soft Light)

Basically, the lesson is complete, but you can go ahead and give our cards a zest. Use the font “? Nigma Scrawl” size somewhere 14 points, color: # 2571a2.
