In this lesson, we will look at how to apply Free Transformation to moving and fixed anchor points, and learn how to create volumetric text.
Step 1. Create a new document (Ctrl +N) size 1280×1024 and 72 pixels / inch.
Take the tool “Rectangle” (Rectangle Tool (U)), in the layer-shape mode, the color is white. And drag a rectangle over the entire document.
Double-click on the resulting layer with a rectangle, thereby causing the window Layer style. Set the following parameters in it:
Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay):
You should have this background:
Step 2. Using the tool “Freeform” (Custom Shape Tool (U)), try to draw the rays coming from the center of the picture.
Select a shape – “Registered Target 2“, In the layer-shape mode, (if you do not have such a shape, then you just need to add it, it is located in the”Characters“).
Holding the key Shift Stretch the shape evenly, as far as possible. Then hold down the key Ctrl and place the resulting shape in the center.
* if you overdid it with a size or did not reach it, click Ctrl +T (Free Transformation) and, holding the key Shift, reduce or increase the shape in size *
Go to the tool “Outline selection“(A) and, holding the key Ctrl, click on the figure. (Pivot points must be from filled to become empty.)
Now we need to mark the points located in the center, to make them moveable when moving. To do this, hold down the key Shift, click on the points. This can be done as a tool “Arrow“(A) and the tool”Angle“(Convert point tool).
For convenience, the image is better to enlarge.
Reduce the image. Now you need to collect the rays in the center of the image. Apply Free Transform (Ctrl +T) and holding the key Shift, evenly from all edges, narrow the transformation frame to the center. The edges of the figure will remain fixed, and the middle will be transformed.
Apply layer style to this layer:
Opacity 70%, Fill 0%
* For my image I had to change the parameters specified in the lesson. I think you, too, can, based on your picture, change the settings in the Overlay Gradient Scale and move the sliders in the Gradient itself. *
In the end, you should have this:
Step 3. Create a new layer (Shift +Ctrl +Alt +N), take the tool “Brush“ (Brush Tool (B)), Color – black, Opacity 10%, Hardness 0%
And darken the edges of your image.
Step 4. Now we write the word STYLE.
Each letter must be written on a separate layer.
* To get exactly the same text, you need to include “Capitals“(TT), and when writing the letter” e “disable (TT) *
Take the tool “Move” (V), in the tool settings, check the box next to Auto Select.
And by clicking on each letter, arrange them as in the screenshot.
Then using Free transformation (Ctrl + T) while holding the key Ctrl, pack each letter as shown in the screenshot.
Step 5. Merge all layers with letters. To do this, click on the first layer with the letter, then find the last layer with the letter and, holding the key Shift, click on it (all layers will be highlighted). Then click Ctrl +E.
Now hold down the keys Ctrl +Alt and by clicking on the letter, slightly shift each received duplicate down.
For a more accurate result, it is best to enlarge the image to the size of a single letter. You should have many layers, the author got them 38.
Step 6. Merge all layers with the word “STYLE”, except the very first one. Swap the first layer (with the word STYLE) and the resulting layer after merging the layers.
To the resulting layer (from the merged layers), apply the Layer Style:
Get like this:
Step 7. Now we need to add some shadows and highlights. In order for this to work, you need to turn the layer with superimposed effects into a normal layer (without effects).
Create a new layer above the layer to which the Layer Style was previously applied. Then, holding the key Ctrl, Click on the layer with effects, thereby selecting it too. Click Ctrl +E, to merge both layers.
Take the tool “Dimmer” (Burn Tool (O)), Exposure set a small 15-20% and paint some shadows on the resulting layer.
Now take the tool “Clarifier” (Dodge Tool (O)) and on the same layer, draw a few highlights.
Step 8. Go to the yellow word layer. STYLE. And apply a layer style to it:
Here’s what happens:
Take the tool “Line” (Line Tool (U)), in layer layer mode, 2 pixels thick, white color. For convenience, enlarge the image, and draw several vertical lines on the letters to complete the stroke of each letter.
Step 9. Now we will draw a ribbon lying on the letters. Take the tool “Pen” (Pen Tool (P)), in layer-shape mode, color is black and draw the first part of the ribbon.
* if you do not know how to use “Pen” then read pen lessons, there are enough of them on the site *. Apply Layer Style to the resulting layer:
Now draw a continuation of the ribbon.
Apply Layer Style:
It will turn out like this:
Finish the ribbon
Apply a piece of Layer Style to this:
This is what should happen:
Step 10. Merge all ribbon layers into a group: Hold the key Ctrl and select the layers related to the ribbon, then hold down the left mouse button and drag the layers to the group icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Layers will automatically be placed in Group1.
Duplicate the group: Hold down the left mouse button and drag the layer. Group 1 on the badge “Create New Layer“. A copy of the group will be created.
Go to layer Group 1, expand the group and delete, or just turn off the effects. After you turn off the effects, collapse the Group again.
Click Ctrl +T and move the layer down and slightly to the right, as shown in the screenshot.
Expand again Group 1 and merge all the layers in it (selecting them all and clicking Ctrl +E).
Then add the Layer Mask to the resulting layer (by clicking on the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette).
Take the tool “Brush”(Brush Tool (B)), Color is black, 100% stiffness and erase too much.
Step 11. Create a new layer. Take the tool “Brush”, Color is white, size is 3-7 pixels, hardness is 100%. Draw on the text, something like patterns, curls to “decorate” it.
Change this layer overlay mode to Overlap.
Create a new layer. Draw on it several spirals. The brush of the same settings, which was used above, the color is white.
Apply to this layer Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian blur)
Set this layer to Fill parameters – 50%
Step 12. Using the tool “Pen” (Pen Tool (P)) in layer-shape mode, add three more decoration elements. Colour – # 545E4E.
And here is the finished result.
Good luck in doing this lesson.
