Cooking eggs in Photoshop

In this lesson you will learn how to create an Easter colorful poster with scrambled text. We will use a lot of bright elements (flowers, herbs, wooden texture, painted eggs, etc) emphasizing the kitsch character of this poster, I hope you will not be bored.
The lesson is not difficult and is suitable for beginners. The average time to complete the lesson is 1-2 hours.

Let’s start!

Materials for the lesson:

Step 1

Let’s start by creating a background for which I use a wonderful wooden texture. Load this image into Photoshop and save it as a pattern.
Create a document of the size you need. Unlock the background layer. Switch to Layer style (Layer style) and use the function Pattern overlay (Pattern overlay).

Create a new layer on top of the background. Activate the tool Brush (Brush tool), color – white. Use the “Rays” brush and draw, on a new layer, diverging lines. Change blend mode (blend mode) of the layer with rays to Overlap (Overlay), opacity lower to 25%. Instead of the “Rays” brush, you can also use vector forms.

Step 2

Add text. To do this, activate the tool Horizontal text (Horizontal Type Tool) and in the font menu, select the most rounded (so, as we will create a fried egg out of it). Set the font color to white. Write any holiday phrase. Make a copy of the text layer and turn off the visibility of the original. Perform further actions with a duplicate layer.

Convert text to outline. Use the tool Pen (Pen Tool) and add a few drops as shown.

Step 3

Add a few Layer styles (Layer style) to text.

Inner shadow (Inner Shadow):

Internal glow (Inner Glow):

Stamping (Bevel and Emboss):

Color overlay (Color Overlay):

Step 4

Convert the text layer to a smart object. Go back to Layer style and add Shadow (Drop Shadow) and Stamping (Bevel and Emboss).

Add to layer labeled Filter> Distortion> Ripples (Filter> Distort> Ripple).

Duplicate this layer, reduce Fill (Fill) to 0%; go to Layer style and set these values to Stamping (Bevel and Emboss):

Step 5

Create a new layer above the original text layer. Holding the key Ctrl click on the original text layer (to get a selection). Switch to Select> Modify> Expand (Select> Modify> Expand). Set the value to 20 pixels. Fill the selection with gray. Name the layer “Grass Shape” (Grass Shape).

Use a seamless grass texture and add it to the “Grass Shape” layer through Pattern overlay (Pattern Overlay) (in the same way as in step 1, you added a wooden texture).

Create a new layer on top of “Grass Shape”. Use the grass brush and adjust the edge of the lawn.

Step 6

Select the two grass layers and right-click on the selected layers. Select submenu “Convert to smart object“(Convert to the smart object). Go to Layer style and add the following settings:

You can also add a new layer and use tools on it. Clarifier (Dodge Tool) and Dimmer (Burn Tool) to give a greater saturation of herbal texture.

Additionally, I created a new layer (below the grass layer) with the shape of an identical grass area. For this form, I applied the Embossed layer style, which helped create the effect of carved wood.

Step 7

Now you need to add the yolks. To do this, activate the tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool) and draw circles on a new layer (as in the image below). Name this layer “Yolks”.

Add the following styles to the “Yolks” layer:

Step 8

Duplicate the yolks layer. Use the “Clear layer style” feature for the duplicate layer. Activate the tool again Ellipse (Ellipse Tool). From the settings menu, select the function Subtract the figure area. Using this tool, create the shape of a new month (as in the example below):

Change the color of the top shape (crescent) to white. Value Opacity (Opacity) decrease to 45%.

Step 9

The text is ready. Now you need to decorate it with festive elements such as colored eggs, flowers, leaves and herbs. Let’s start by adding Easter colored eggs. Copy this resource and place the elements as in the picture. Use adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) to change the color and tone of your own will.

Use Layer Styles Shadow (Drop Shadow) and Inner shadow (Inner Shadow) for the egg layer:

Step 10

Now add grass and flowers. Place the image of grass above the layer with Easter eggs.

To make grass harmoniously fit into the collage, use adjustment layers. Brightness \ Contrast (Brightness / Contrast) and Color tone \ Saturation (Hue / Saturation).

Duplicate the blade of grass a few times. Make copies of different sizes and place them one above the other. Also add effect Shadow (Drop Shadow) for each layer of herbs.

Using the previous resource, add an image of flowers. Place them to your liking. Do not forget to add effect Shadow (Drop Shadow), as well as, adjust as necessary, brightness and contrast and color.

I added fern leaves to my work. For them, I slightly increased the contrast and applied Shadow (Drop Shadow).

Step 11

We come to the final step. It remains to add a vignette. Create a new layer above all other layers (blending mode Overlap (Overlay)). Activate the tool Brush (Brush) and just paint with white to brighten (in the center) and black to darken colors (at the edges).

Our colorful spring poster is ready!
