Create a bone text in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create text from bones in Photoshop. So let’s get started!

This lesson is of medium difficulty, so some actions may be difficult.

Note: This lesson is done in Photoshop CC – so some screenshots may differ slightly from previous versions of the program. Some brushes are only available in Photoshop CS6.

Step 1

Create a new document with the following dimensions 1200 px * 1200 px, the background color is black. Using a soft white round brush, paint the center of the background (set pressure (flow) and opacity (opacity) brush about 40% to get a subtle light effect).

Use any font you like. Type a letter – we use this letter as a guide for further use of the bone texture:

Download the original image with the bones in Photoshop, select the following fragment, which is shown in the screenshot below:

Copy (Copy) / glue (Paste) selected bone fragment on our working paper. Place the bone over the left side of the letter ‘A’:

Via Eraser (Eraser) small diameter process the edges of the image of the bone, making them softer, if your selection, which you created in the previous step, turned out not quite perfect:

Step 2

Next, on the bone fragment layer, apply the following adjustment layers as clipping masks:

Black-white(Black and White)

Levels (Levels)

Curves (Curves)

The result of the current lesson:

Step 3

Go back to the original image with the bones. This time, select the following bone fragment:

Copy (Copy) / glue (Paste) selected bone fragment on our working paper. Position the bone as shown in the screenshot below:

Next, to this layer with the bone fragment, apply the following adjustment layers as clipping masks:

Black-white(Black and White)

Levels (Levels)

The result of the current lesson:

Step 4

In this step, we will create brushes from the bones. But first we will group the layers we created in Step 2.

Next, right-click on the layer with the created group and in the window that appears, select the option Merge group (Merge Group):

Zoom out the image of the merged bone layer:

Duplicate a layer with a reduced bone several times – then zoom out, rotate the image of each duplicate layer to create a brush shape:

Place the created brush over the left part of the letter ‘A’:

Duplicate the brush by adding more bones to our text. Place the duplicate bones over the right side of ‘A’, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 5

We can apply brush Particles (Particle) to add small particles around the letter:

Turn off the visibility of the original layer with the text “A”. Create a new layer below the с A ’layer. Draw or apply the Cloud filter. Apply to the clouds created Deformation (Warp Tool) to warp the cloud effect, as shown in the screenshot below:

So we add dynamics to our bone text effect:

Step 6

We have almost completed the lesson! To complete the effect, we can flatten, then create a duplicate of the merged layer, and then apply a filter to the duplicate of the merged layer. Noise (Noise):

As a final color correction, add a new adjustment layer. Selective color correction (Selective Color) on top of all other layers:

My final result.

So, we have completed the lesson! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it was useful for you. See you, have a nice day!
