Create a brilliant New Year text in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to use layer styles and source fireworks images to create gold-sparkling text.

The final result:

Step 1

Let’s go File – New (File> New) to create a new working document with the following dimensions 1000 × 700 px, press the ‘OK’ button. Set the foreground color to # 665521, and the background color to # 1f150b. Choose a tool Gradient (Gradient tool (G)), click the gradient scale, select the gradient from the foreground color to the background color, and then click the ‘OK’ button to close the window Gradient editor (Gradient Editor), then, in the gradient settings, set Radial gradient (Radial Gradient).

Click the mouse in the center of the canvas, and then hold down the mouse button and drag the gradient to one of the corners of the working document to create a radial gradient in the background. Now duplicate the layer with the gradient, to do this, right-click on the layer with the gradient and in the appeared menu select the option Duplicate layer (Duplicate Layer).

Double-click on the duplicate layer with the background and in the appeared window select the option Overlay options (Blending options) to add layer style Pattern overlay (Pattern Overlay). In the settings window of this layer style, set the blending mode to Soft light (Soft light) and also reduce the degree Opacity (Opacity) up to 15%. Now click on the small arrow facing down next to the thumbnail of the pattern and in the window that appears, click on the small triangle in the upper right corner to select the option Download patterns (Load Patterns) from the list that appears. Select the file with the original polka dot patterns, and then click Download (Open). Select the Muster 36 pattern from the set of installed patterns as the main pattern for our background. So we add a dotted pattern to our background.

Step 2

Choose a tool Horizontal text (Type tool (T)), set the foreground color to # ac813d. Set the font Elsie, font size 200 pt. In the settings window, the symbol, for this we go Window – Symbol (Window> Character), set Kerning (Kerning) on Optic (Optical). Now add the text, each word of the text on a separate layer. Select all three layers with text, and then click the icons. Horizontal alignment (Align Horizontal Centers), Alignment centers vertically (Align Vertical Centers) to align text.

Double duplicate each layer with a piece of text, and then decrease the value. Fillings (Fill) for every second duplicate of the text layer up to 0%. Now select all the layers that make up a whole line of text (for example, all layers with the word ‘Happy’), then hold down the (Shift) key and click on the icon Create a new group (Create a New Group) to group all selected layers into one group. Click on the group name to give a new name.

Step 3

Double click on the original с Happy ’text layer to apply the following layer styles.

Add a layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss). Set the following settings:

  • Style (Style): Embossing (Stroke Emboss)
  • Method (Technique): Tough faceting (Chisel Hard)
  • The size (Size): 13
  • Circuit gloss (Gloss Contour): Ring – Double
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Bright shine (Vivid Light)
  • Shadow mode (Shadow Mode): color # 9f6100

Add a layer style Circuit (Contour) with the following settings:

  • Circuit (Contour): Ring
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)

Next, add a layer style. Stroke (Stroke). Set the following settings:

  • The size (Size): 7
  • Type of strokes (Fill Type): Gradient (Gradient)
  • Style (Style): Mirror (Reflected)
  • Angle (Angle) 90 °
  • Click on the gradient scale and in the window that appears Gradient editor (Gradient Editor), click Download (Load). Select the source gradients you downloaded for CHROMES.grd, DIALS.grd, and Goldmedal.grd, and then click the ‘OK’ button. From the set of gradients, select the gradient stove pipe 70.

Now add a layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow). Set the following settings:

  • Bias (Distance): 14
  • Swipe (Spread): 10%
  • The size (Size): 10

Click the ‘OK’ button to apply the layer style.

So, we have created the outer enclosing part.

Right-click on the layer styles and select the option in the window that appears. Copy layer style (Copy Layer Style). Apply the copied layer styles to the remaining two original layers with text fragments. To do this, right-click on the original layer and in the appeared window select the option Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style).

Step 4

Double click on the first duplicate of the layer with the text ‘Happy’ to apply the following layer styles.

Add a layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss). Set the following settings:

  • The size (Size): 16
  • Uncheck the box Global coverage (Use Global Light)
  • Angle (Angle): -166 °
  • Height (Altitude): 69 °
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Bright shine (Vivid Light)

Add a layer style Circuit (Contour) with the following settings:

  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Install Range (Range) by 90%

Next, add a layer style. Stroke (Stroke). Set the following settings:

  • The size (Size): 1
  • Type of strokes (Fill Type): Gradient (Gradient)
  • Style (Style): Mirror (Reflected)
  • Angle (Angle): 90 °
  • Click on the gradient scale to select a gradient. Golden Dial Top X11, then press the ‘OK’ button to close the window Gradient editor (Gradient Editor).

Now add a layer style. Internal glow (Inner Glow). Set the following settings:

  • Blend mode (Blend Mode): Hard light (Hard Light)
  • Noise (Noise): 100%
  • Colour # 585858
  • A source (Source): From the center (Center).

Add a layer style Gloss (Satin). Set the following settings:

  • Blend mode (Blend Mode): Overlap (Overlay)
  • Colour # f4cfa3
  • Bias (Distance): 26
  • The size (Size): 49
  • Circuit (Contour): Ring – Double.

Finally, add a layer style. Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay). Set the following settings:

  • Blend mode (Blend Mode): Soft light (Soft Light)
  • Opacity (Opacity) 30%
  • Click on the gradient scale to select a gradient. Gold Label 160, then press the ‘OK’ button to close the window Gradient editor (Gradient Editor) and once again press the ‘OK’ button to close the layer style window.

So, we have created the main sparkling part of the effect. Same as we did before, copy / paste the layer styles for the other two first duplicates of the layer with text fragments.

Step 5

Double-click the second duplicate of the text with the text ‘Happy’ to apply the following layer styles.

Add a layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss). Set the following settings:

  • The size (Size): 16
  • Uncheck the box Global coverage (Use Global Light)
  • Angle (Angle): -166 °
  • Height (Altitude): 69 °
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Bright shine (Vivid Light)
  • Mode the shadows (Shadow Mode), color # aba277

Add a layer style Circuit (Contour) with the following settings:

  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Range (Range): 90%

Add a layer style Texture (Texture) with the following settings:

  • Pattern (Pattern): texture Noise (select the original texture Noise as the pattern)
  • Depth (Depth): 500%.

Now, add a layer style. External glow (Outer Glow). Set the following settings:

  • Blend mode (Blend Mode): Hard light (Hard Light)
  • Noise (Noise): 100%
    Click on the gradient scale to select the Gold Label 215z gradient, then click the ‘OK’ button to close the window Gradient editor (Gradient Editor) and once again press the ‘OK’ button to close the layer style window.

So, we stylized a brilliant piece of text. Copy / paste the layer styles for the other two second duplicates of the layer with text fragments.

Step 6

Open 3 source images with fireworks using the tool. Move (Move tool (V)), move the image with the fireworks to our working paper. Make sure the fireworks layer is on top of all other layers. Next, go Image – Correction – Hue / Saturation (Image> Adjustments> Hue / Saturation). Set the value Color tone (Hue) to +7, and then press the ‘OK’ button to close the correction settings window Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation).

Change the blending mode for the firework layer to Linear clarifier (Add) (Linear Dodge (Add)).

Activate the free transformation tool, for this we go Editing – Free Transformation (Edit> Free Transform), apply scaling and rotation if necessary, placing the firework effect on the top edge of one of the letters, press (Enter) to apply the changes. Repeat Step 6 for the remaining images with fireworks.

You can see the final result in the screenshot below. A variety of layer styles helped us create beautiful and sparkling text, and images with fireworks added an elegant touch to the final result. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it was useful for you.
