Create a lace text in Photoshop

In this tutorial we will create a text with a lace stroke. To do this, we will create a brush for drawing lace and adjust its parameters, and then add the necessary layer styles to complete the effect.

Final result:

Remarks:
– in the lesson is used AdobePhotoshopCSfive Extended(but other versions will do);
– the size of the final work 1280 x 1024 pixels;
– if necessary, repeat the basics of working in Photoshop, such as installing various add-ons (textures, styles, fonts, etc.), as well as keyboard shortcuts.

Materials:

(Note trans. Color paletteafter installation will appear in the Window > Swatches (Window – Samples), it is not necessary to install, because codes of all colors used are given in the lesson.)

Step 1. Open Damask Modern texture, set foreground color #a9834f.

Select from the menu Image> Adjustments> Hue / Saturation (Image – Correction – Hue / Saturation) or press Ctrl + U, put a tick on Colorize (Toning). Set the following values.

After that select Edit> Define Pattern (Editing – Define a pattern), name it Background Pattern.

Step 2. Create a new document size 1280 x 1024 pixels, set foreground color # e5636f, and the background color # 970214. Take the tool Gradient (Gradient), type Radial (Radial), and draw a gradient from the center to the corner of the image..

Double-click on the layer in the layers palette to unlock it, open the layer style window (click on the corresponding icon at the bottom of the layers palette or double-click on the layer again) and add a style Pattern overlay (Overlay pattern). Change Blend mode (Blend Mode) on Linear burn (Linear dimmer), Opacity 50% and specify the Background Pattern you created before this.

After that, the background will look like this.

Open the Cracked Wall texture image, move it to your work and place it on top of the background layer, change the blending mode to Softlight (Soft light). Thus, we will have a very nice background.

Step 3. Now create a brush for lace. Create a new document about the size 270 x 270 pixels select tool PolygonTool (Polygon). At the top of the tool parameters window (click on the small triangular arrow), check the boxes. Smoothies corners (Smooth exterior corners), Star (Star), and Smooth indents (Smooth internal corners), specify the value of the parameter Indent sides by (Ray depth) 10%. Also in the window Sides (Parties) put the value 12.

Set the foreground color to black and select tool mode. Layer layer (ShapeLayers), draw a shape to the size of the created document.

Take the tool Ellipse tool (Ellipse), select Paths mode. Draw a circle outline as shown below. Absolute accuracy is not necessary.

Translator’s note. If you want to draw a smooth circle, hold Shift.

Take the tool Brush (Brush), select hard brush. Open the brush settings palette – Window> Brush (Window – Brush) and put Size (Size / Size) 20 pixels, Spacing (Intervals) 180%.

Create a new layer above the layer with the created shape, make sure you are on this layer. Set the foreground color to white and switch back to the tool. EllipseTool (Ellipse), right click on the contour and select Stroke path (Run the outline of the contour).

Indicate in the window that appears tool Brush (Brush), tick on Simulate pressure (Simulate pressure) should not stand.

In this way, we stroke the outline with white circles. Click Enter, to remove the outline.

Again with the tool Ellipse tool (Ellipse) draw another outline – smaller than the previous one.

Choose a tool Brush (Brush), change Size (Size / Size) by 7 pixels, Spacing (Intervals) 150%.

Switch back to the tool Ellipse tool (Ellipse) and stroke the outline in a similar way, using the brush with the new settings.

Make an invisible layer with a white background (to do this, remove the icon with the eye opposite the layer on the layers palette), so the background will become transparent. Select from the menu Edit> Define Brush Preset (Editing – Define a brush), name the brush Lace.

Step 4. Go back to the document with the main work, write the text you need, using the color # ae1616. Use for this font Fontleroy Brown NF.
The font size (size) is 750 pixels, set the value of the Tracking parameter to 10 in the text settings window to avoid further overlaying the stroke of one letter on another.

Create a new layer under the text layer and name it Stroke. Right-click on the text layer and select CreateWorkPath (Create a work path). When you create an outline around the text, go back to the Stroke layer, making it active.

Choose a tool Brush (Brush) and the Lace brush you created, open the brush settings palette and set the values Size (Size / Size) 30 pixels, Spacing (Intervals) 70%.

Set foreground color # f5f4e6 select instrument Direct selection tool (Arrow / Contour Editing). Right-click on the contour and select Stroke path (Run the outline of the contour).

In the window that appears, specify the tool Brush (Brush), ticks on Simulate pressure (Simulate pressure) should not be.

The result is a lace stroke around the text.

Step 5. Add a few layer styles to make the lace more natural. Open the layer style window (double click on the layer or click on the corresponding icon at the bottom of the layers palette). Add the following styles:
– Drop Shadow. Specify color # 848484 uncheck the box Use Global Light (Global Illumination), set the value Angle (Angle) 12. Also set the values Distance (Offset) 9 and Size (Size) 2.

Bevel and Emboss (Embossed). Put the Depth (Depth) 375, Size (Size) 1, Angle (Angle) 120, Altitude (Height) 30 and color in a row Shadow mode (Shadow mode) # dad1d1.

Texture (Texture). Select the texture AntFarm (Ant Farm), put Depth (Depth) 35.

Note translator. This texture is in the standard set of textures Patterns.

Color overlay (Overlay color). You can make the lace color darker or change it if you want. I chose a color # ffeed0.

Step 6. Now add layer styles to the main text layer to give it volume and add texture. Double-click on the text layer to open the layer style window. Apply the following styles:
Inner shadow (Inner shadow). Change the color to # b65252 uncheck the box Use Global Light (Global Illumination), set the value Angle 120. Also put Distance (Offset) 0 and Size (Size) 16.

Outer glow (External glow). Change Blendmode (Blend Mode) on Multiply (Multiplication) color # 84261f.

Bevel and Emboss (Embossed). Set the values Size (Size) 16, Angle (Angle) 122, Altitude (Height) 30. Change Gloss Contour (Gloss contour) on Guassian – Inverse (Inversion – according to Gauss).

Note translator. To install this contour, click on the arrow to the right of the contour, in the appeared contours window again click on the arrow to the right and select the lower Contours item from the list, in the dialog that opens, click OK, find the desired contour among those that appear.

Set the color for Highlight Mode (Backlight Mode) # 9c4545, and for Shadow Mode (Shadow Mode) # cc7a7a.

Texture. Specify the texture Woven (Woven texture).

Note translator. This texture is in the standard set of textures Patterns.

Step 7. Create a new layer on top of all layers, set the foreground color # f5f4e6. Take tough brush and make brush prints on the letters to get a pattern in the form of flowers. Apply the Ivory layer style you downloaded and set to this layer.

Translator’s note. The author also added the inscription Allyouneedis to the work, using the Machia font.

This is the final result!
