Create a metallic 3D texture in Photoshop

Metal text on 3 D – metal texture.

In this tutorial, we will create volumetric text against a metal texture with a 3D effect using various Photoshop tools.

The final image.

Open a new document. 1900×1200 px,72dpi resolution, white background. Then create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and fill it with 50% gray by clicking on Shift + F5.

Go to menu Filter> Pixelate> Color Halftone (Filter – Appearance – Colored halftone).

Now we need to highlight the white background. To do this, go to the tab Channels (Channels) and with the Ctrl pressed, click on one of the channels.

Click the tab Layers (Layers). With the active selection, create a new layer and fill the selection with 50% gray (Shift + F5). Deselect (Ctrl + D).

We have three layers: background white, a layer with black circles and a layer that is filled with gray. Turn off the visibility of the middle layer by clicking on the eye.

Next, go to the background layer and invert the color by clicking Ctrl + I.

Double-click on the gray layer in the layers panel to open the style window and apply a layer style. Bevel Emboss (Stamping).

Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) as a clipping mask (Alt + Ctrl + G). Choose a tool Gradient Tool (G) (Gradient) and draw a linear gradient from top to bottom.

Then discolor the gradient layer by going to the menu Image> Adjustments> Desaturate (Image – Correction – Desaturate) (Shift + Ctrl + U).

Merge the gray layer and the gradient layer into one (Ctrl + E). Then go to menu 3D> New Mesh from Layer> Postcard (3D – New mesh from layer – Postcard). Use the rotate and move tools to rotate the layer as shown below.

Write your text.

Add the following layer styles.

This is what should happen.

Duplicate the text layer (Ctrl + J). Clear Layer Styles – RMB – Clear Layer Style (Clear layer style).

Apply the following layer styles.

Add adjustment layer Curves (Curves) with these settings.

Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N). Choose a soft round brush (Brush Tool) color black and darken around the edges of the canvas. Vary the brush opacity on the top toolbar.

Next, create another adjustment layer. Gradient Map (Gradient Map). Change the blending mode of this layer to Soft Light (Soft light) and reduce Opacity (Opacity) up to 34%.

Open the texture with a highlight and transfer it to work.

Change the layer’s overlay mode to Screen (Lightening / Screen).

Duplicate the highlight layer and position it as shown below.

Select a copy of the text layer and duplicate (Ctrl + J). Convert this layer to Smart – Object. To do this, go to the menu Layer> Smart Objects> Convert to Smart Object (Layer – Smart Object – Convert to Smart – Object).

Then go to menu Filter> Blur> Motion Blur (Filter – Blur – Blur in motion).

Move this layer below all text layers. Get the next effect.

Select the topmost layer in the layers panel and press the key combination Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E . This will create a merged layer. Next, go to the menu Filter> Blur> FieldBlur (Filter – Blur – Blur field).

And here is the final result.
