Create a notepad text in Photoshop

In this lesson you will learn how to create a unique, unusual text effect in the form of a stylish notebook. The idea to the author of the lesson came after he saw a similar icon, and decided to create such a text in which you can use your name, for example.

The result of the lesson

Materials for the lesson:

Let’s start by creating an inscription in capital letters. Font for this select Myriadpro.

Rasterize the text and using Rectangular area (Rectangular Marquee Tool), add a rectangle to the first letter as shown in the screenshot. Fill the selection with the same color as the text.

Download the selection of the created label and expand it by 10 pixels in the menu. Selection – Modification – Expand (Select> Modify> Expand). Fill the selection with the same color.

Now the author proposes to make the effect of rounded edges.

Then load the selection and open the function Refine edge (RefineEdge). Enter these settings:

Fill the selection with a color on the new layer or add a mask to the layer with the shape or text.

Duplicate this layer five times, name the copies Paper, and for convenience you can group them. Download the notepad paper pattern and apply it to the text. Also add a layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow). To create the look of paper pages, move each layer a little.

Now use one of the copies of the caption to create the cover of the notebook. Divide this layer in two. Make a selection like in the screenshot and press the key combination Ctrl + X and Ctrl + V, after which the selected area will be cut to a new layer. Name these layers Cover 1 and Cover 2.

Open the layer style window for the cover and add the following styles:

Shadow (Drop Shadow)

Internal shadow (Inner Shadow)

Stamping (BevelEmboss)

Now for layers with a cover, add a layer style. Pattern overlay (Pattern Overlay) with a leather surface, using these textures with different colors.

Duplicate the layers with the cover and place copies below all the layers in the palette.

To finish add details. For example, stitches on the cover. You can use special brushes for this, which can be found and downloaded here. Select a brush to fit your text size. Create a selection from the edge of the cover and reduce it by 7-10 pixels depending on the thickness of the inscription. Create a work path from the selection and Stroke the outline. (Stroke Path) one of the downloaded brushes for stitches. The author chose the simplest of them.

Open the layer style window for stitches and add a style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss).

This is how your text should look like after applying a leather texture and adding stitches.

Now create the metal parts with the tool. Ellipse(Ellipse Tool).
Create a circle and duplicate it on the same layer. Change the double size to 50% and use the function to subtract the area Subtract front figure (Subtract Shape). Duplicate the resulting shape twice on the same layer.

Translator’s Note: To copy a circle on the same layer, select the outline of the shape with a black arrow, press the key combinations Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, then to decrease the double click Ctrl + T and reduce with frame transformation. To duplicate the resulting shape on the same layer, again select the entire outline of the shape with a black arrow and holding the key Alt drag the outline with the mouse.

Add the following layer styles to give the circles a metallic effect.

Shadow (Drop Shadow)

Internal shadow (Inner Shadow)

Stamping (Bevel and Emboss)

Add brackets and your text should look something like the screenshot below.

For final revision, you can add ribbons, which can be downloaded here or you can create your own as the author of the lesson did. You can also add some paper parts or other items and stationery.

This is the final result of our notepad text. The author hopes that you have liked the lesson and will apply it in practice.
