Lesson resources:

1. Creating a gradient background

Step 1

Create a new document in Photoshop (Ctrl + N) 800×600 pixels. Create a copy of the background layer. (Ctrl + J).

Step 2

Apply style to copy Gradient Overlay (Gradient Overlay): Mode – Normal, Style – Radial, Gradient – # c8c5b8 – # aaa593.

2. Weak texture on the background

Step 1

Create a copy of the stylized layer, right-click on it and select Rasterize Layer Style (Rasterize Layer Style). If you have installed a version below CS6, then you need to place a copy with styles into a group, and then convert it into a layer.

On the toolbar, set the colors # c8c5b8 and # aaa593 as the main and background colors.

Step 2

Apply noise filter (Filter> Noise> Add Noise) (Filter> Noise> Add Noise) with such parameters:

Step 3

Set the blending mode Replacing dark(Darken) for the top layer. The noise will not be so obvious, and we get a weak texture.

Step 4

Create an adjustment layer Levels(Levels).

3. Text creation and extrusion

Step 1

Set the font “Freshman”, set the size to 125pt, color # 43a0a8 and optical kerning (Optical) in the Symbol panel (Window> Symbol) (Window> Character). Tool Horizontal text(Horizontal Type Tool) (T) write the word “Retro”.

Step 2

Create a copy of the text layer. (Ctrl + J) and lower it under the original.

Step 3

Activate mode Free transform(Ctrl + T) and move the layer 1 pixel to the right and down using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Click Enter, to apply the changes.

Step four

Click Ctrl + Alt + Shift + T 10 more times to repeat recent changes. In this way we create extrusion.

4. Creating a smart object for 3D extrusion and shadow

Step 1

Select all copies of the text layer and change their color to # c7b299.

Step 2

Select all copies again and go to the menu. Filter> Convert for Smart Filters (Filter> Convert for Smart Filters). Name the resulting layer “3D Extrusion”, create a copy of it and name it “Shadow”.

5. Styling the original text layer.

Apply the following styles to the original text layer:

Stroke(Stroke): Position – Inside, Mode – Normal, Stroke Type – Color (# f2eee1).

Inner shadow(Inner Shadow): Mode – Multiplication, Color – # 464646.

Pattern overlay(Pattern Overlay): Mode – Soft light, Pattern – diagonal lines.

6. Styling 3D extrusion

Extrusion Styles:

Stamping(Bevel Emboss): Style – Inner bevel, Method – Hard cut, Backlight mode – Lightening, Shadow mode – Multiplication. The Angle and Height options depend on the extrusion angle.

Circuit(Contour):

Color overlay: # 265559.

Result:

You can change the extrusion slightly by shifting it with the tool. Move(Move Tool) (V).

7. Shadow

Step 1

Select a shadow layer and apply a filter. Motion blur (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur) (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur).

Step 2

Set the shadow layer to overlay mode. Multiplication(Multiply). Tool Move(Move Tool) (V) move the shadow to the side.
