Materials used:

Step 1

First create a new 600 x 400 pixel document in RGB, 72 DPI mode with any background color. Install the downloaded font and patterns.

Step 2

Creating a background. The first thing we need to do is change the background color. Change foreground color to # 111F2A, as shown in the screenshot below. Now press the key combination Alt + delete and the background of your document will be filled with the selected color.

In the event that your background layer is locked, double-click it, enter a name in the window that appears, and click OK. Now adjust the layer styles. The fastest way to bring up the Style Settings Window is to double-click on a layer. The second option, right-click on the layer and select the option Overlay options (Blending Options). Using the screenshots below, customize the styles and when you’re done, be sure to click OK.

Inner glow – Internal glow
Bevel and Emboss – Embossing
Gradient Overlay – Gradient overlay
Pattern Overlay – Overlapping pattern
Satin – Gloss

You should get this result.

To add the final effect, duplicate the background layer. This can be done by right-clicking and selecting the option Duplicate layer (Duplicate layer) or just click Ctrl +J. On the copy, we apply only the pattern, so we need to clear the previous layer styles that were copied from the original. To do this, go to the menu Layers – Layer Style – Clear Layer Style (Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Clear Layer Style) or simply drag the style icon to the basket icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Now apply layer styles and when you are done with all the settings below, remember to click the OK button.

Remember, the duplicated layer must be above the original background layer in the layers palette.

Step 3

Let’s start creating the text – MAGIC. First make the first text effect. Activate the tool Text(Type) and select a font SF Sports Night NS with a size of about 158 points and set the smoothing method Sharp (Sharp). Now type some text in the middle of the image. You can write any word, but in this lesson the author will use “MAGIC”. As you can see, the author for the letter M, from the group of fonts, chose the option SF Sports Night NS Alternate.

Now we slightly deform the text. Go to the menu Editing – Transform – Warp (Menu> Edit> Transform> Warp) and use the settings as in the screenshot below.

Step 4

Adjust the first text layer – MAGIC. Bring up the layer style window and use the settings shown in the screenshots below. When done, confirm the changes by clicking OK. With this layer will create a shadow from the letters.

Drop shadow – Shadow

Step 5

Adjust the second text layer – MAGIC. To do this, duplicate the previous text layer. The copy must be higher than the original. We need to clear the previous layer styles that were copied from the original. To do this, go to the menu Layers – Layer Style – Clear Layer Style (Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Clear Layer Style), the second option is to simply drag the style icon to the basket icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Now open the layer style window and use the settings below to enter style parameters. This text layer will add a basic text effect.

Drop shadow – Shadow
Inner shadow – Inner shadow
Outer glow – External glow
Inner glow – Internal glow
Bevel and Emboss – Stamping
Satin – Gloss
Color overlay – Color overlay
Gradient overlay – Gradient overlay
Pattern overlay – Overlapping pattern

Step 6

Adjust the third text layer – MAGIC. Duplicate the text copy layer and this duplicate should be higher than the copy in the layers palette. Clear the layer styles on the duplicate again, as they did before. Call the layer style window and use the settings below in the screenshots to enter the style parameters. When you are done with all the settings, do not forget to click OK. This text layer will add some more effects to the final result.

Step 7

Let’s start creating the text – SAN DIEGO. Activate the tool Text(Type) and select the font again. SF Sports Night N.S., with a size of about 59 points and set the smoothing method Sharp (Sharp). Now enter the text, somewhere in the center of the image. You can write any words, but the author chose SAN DIEGO.

Now we slightly deform the text. Go to the menu Editing –Transformation – Warp (Menu> Edit> Transform> Warp) and use the settings as in the screenshot below.

Step 8

Adjust the first text layer – SAN DIEGO. Open the layer style settings window and use the settings as in the screenshots below. Confirm the changes by clicking the OK button. With this layer will create a shadow from the letters.

Step 9

Adjust the second text layer – SAN DIEGO. To do this, create a copy of the previous text layer. The copy must be higher than the original. We need to clean the layer styles that are copied from the original. To do this, go to the menu Layers – Layer Style – Clear Layer Style (Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Clear Layer Style), or simply drag the style icon to the basket icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Now open the layer style window and use the settings below in the screenshots to apply the settings for each style. This text layer will add a basic text effect.

You should get this result.

Step 10

Add a star. Activate the tool Polygon(Polygon tool) and in the top menu of tool settings select the option Five pointed white star (5 Point White Star) where it is located, you can see in the screenshot. Draw only one star for now, we will deal with duplication later.

Just like the text, we distort the shape of a star. Go to the menu Editing –Transformation – Warp (Menu> Edit> Transform> Warp) and use the settings as in the screenshot below.

Step 11

If you look at the final image, you will notice that the style of the star is the same as that of the inscription – SAN DIEGO. We do not need to customize the layer styles again, we just save them from the previous label and apply to the asterisk. How to do it? Double click on the top layer of the inscription SAN DIEGO and open the layer style window. On the right side of this window, click A new style (New Style). In the window that appears, check the box for both options. You can give your name to this style, and then click OK. Do the same with the second text layer SAN DIEGO. The author gave his names to the styles TOP and SHADOW.

After saving both styles, you can find them in the styles palette. In the event that the style palette is not visible, you can open it through the menu Window – Styles (Window> Styles). Now make the star layer active and click on the “SHADOW” style in the style palette to apply it to the shape. Duplicate the star layer and apply a “TOP” style to the copy. The copy layer must be higher than the original in the layers palette.

Now you can see the final effect for the star. To create another star, simply duplicate the layers, the original and the copy, selecting them with the Ctrl key pressed, and go to the menu Layers – Duplicate Layers (Layer> Duplicate Layers). Move both new copied layers to the right, scale and move down a bit. You also need to rotate both layers by about 6 degrees, as seen in the final image.

Do the same with the third star, but this time the turn for it will be about 9 degrees.

Step 12

In addition, it is possible to change the color and make it darker for the first star. Double click on the layer to open the settings window and in the parameter Color overlay (Color Overlay) change color.
