Create a text effect Spiderman in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how easy it is to create a “Spiderman” text effect using patterns and layer styles.

The text effect “Spiderman” is part of the “Super Heroes – Photoshop Styles” from my portfolio from the site of Envato Market.

1. Create a background

I’ll show you how to create a background for the final image, but if you want to use your own background, then skip this part.

Step 1

Create a new document and set its size: 850×500 pixels, Resolution (Resolution): 72 pixels / inch and Background Contents (Background content): White (White background).

Step 2

Double click on the background layer in the layers panel to unlock it. Now right-click on this layer and select in the context menu Blending options (Overlay options). Another way to open these options is to select a layer and go to Layer> Layer Style> Blending Options (Layer> Layer Style> Blending Options).

Then add Gradient overlay (Gradient overlay) with these settings:

  • Blend Mode (Overlay mode): Linear burn (Linear dimmer)
  • Opacity (Opacity): 20%
  • Click on the gradient field and make a black and white fill, set the white color to the left and black to the right.
  • Style(Style): Radial (Radial)
  • Angle (Angle): 0 °
  • Tick on Dither (Dithering).

Step 3

Add a Pattern overlay (Overlay pattern) with the following settings:

  • Click on the pattern field and select the “Dark Wall.
  • Opacity (Opacity): 100%
  • Scale (Scale): 100%

So we created a dark textured background with vignette.

2. Create a text effect Spiderman

This text effect is made on one layer, so you can save it as a new style in the palette. Styles (Styles) to further use it.

Step 1

Take the tool Type tool (Text) and select the font “Aero Matics”. Install Font Style (Font style) on Bold Italic and set the font size to about 200 pt. Write the word “SPIDER” in capital letters.

Step 2

Select a text layer in the layers panel, right-click on the layer and select in the context menu Blending options (Overlay options).

Add style Pattern overlay (Overlay pattern) with the following settings:

This will add a basic red spiderman pattern.

Add style Gradient overlay (Gradient fill) with the following settings:

We started the work by creating a dark background using a seamless pattern. Then we created a text layer and added many different styles to create a text effect in the Spiderman style.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and if you liked the style created, then do not forget to save it to the style palette for future projects.
