Create a text with elements of snow and fire in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create an interesting text using the elements of fire and snow in Photoshop.

This lesson relates to medium difficulty, therefore, some steps may be difficult. Let’s try!

Note: This lesson is done in Photoshop CS6 – therefore, some screenshots may differ slightly from previous versions of the program. Some brushes are only available in this version of Photoshop CS6.

OK. Let’s get started!

The final result:

Step 1

Create a new document with the following dimensions 1440 px * 700 px, the background is black. We will start by adding a snowy forest to the background. Load the original image with the forest in Photoshop, and then select the top center of the image:

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) highlighted part of the image of the forest on our working paper. Position the image of the forest, as shown in the screenshot below.

Using a large, soft eraser, process the edges of the forest image, as shown in the screenshot below:

Add adjustment layer Black and white (black and white) to the layer with the selected part of the forest image:

Step 2

Download the font from the link at the beginning of this lesson. Type the following text:

On the text layer, apply the following layer styles:

Stamping (Bevel and Emboss)

Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay)

Step 3

Next, we will add the texture of Concrete to our text. Load the texture in Photoshop. Select the following section of the texture:

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) selected area of ​​concrete texture on our working paper. Place the texture layer over the text layer. Right-click on the layer with the texture of concrete and in the appeared window select the option Create clipping mask (Create Clipping Mask):

Step 4

Next, we will add a snow effect to the text using the ‘Per Stroke Brightness Variance’ brush (which should be included in the standard brush set).

Set the following settings for the brush, which are shown in the screenshot below:

Carefully paint the text to add a snow effect, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 5

In this step, we will add the effect of falling snow to our scene. Load the Snow texture in Photoshop. Highlight part of the texture with snow particles, as shown in the screenshot below:

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) the highlighted part of the snow texture on our working paper. Change the blending mode for this texture layer to Lightening (Screen):

Repeat the process, adding more snow to our scene. The result.

Step 6

To create a more dramatic effect, use a filter. Clouds (Clouds) or using the Clouds brush, paint clouds / fog effect around the text. Do not forget to reduce opacity (Opacity) of the brush / layer to make the effect gentle.

Note translator: to apply filterClouds (Clouds), we goFilter – Rendering – Clouds(Filter – Render – Clouds).

Add adjustment layer Selective color correction (Selective Color) on top of all other layers. Set the settings for this adjustment layer, which are shown in the screenshot below.

So we added the following cool blue effect to our image:

Step 7

In this step, we will add a fire effect to the text. Download the Fire Texture in Photoshop. Select the top of the fire texture, as shown in the screenshot below:

Copy / paste (Copy / Paste) selected part of the texture of fire on our working paper. Change the blending mode for this texture layer to Lightening (Screen). Using tool Free transformation (Free Transform Tool) adjust the scale of the fire texture to fit the size of the tree trunk:

Using the same technique, add sparks from the fire around the text.

Step 8

We have almost completed the lesson. For the final stroke, create a merged layer on top of all other layers (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E), and then duplicate the resulting merged layer (Ctrl + J). To duplicate the merged layer, apply a filter Crystallization (Crystallize).

To duplicate the merged layer, add a layer mask to hide separate areas with a crystallization effect.
