Create chrome text in Photoshop

Step 1

First we will draw a spectacular Background. Create a new document, corresponding to 1550×870, resolution 150 pixels / inch.

Create two guides in the center of the document, horizontal and vertical, following the instructions below. View – New Guide (View – New Guide). If guides are not visible, they may be hidden. Team Ctrl + H returns them back.

Next, select the tool Gradient tool (G) (Gradient tool). Click on the gradient thumbnail. In the Edit Gradient window, select a gradient from Black to White from the standard list. Click on the black bottom control point. Then below, on the Color indicator, to open the color palette. Enter color code # B3B3B3. Click OK, and go to the color selection for the bottom white control point. Color code # 1a1a1a.

Create a new layer, name it “Gradient”. Create a gradient of previously configured colors: move the cursor with the key held down Shift, from the center of the document to its right border.

On top of the gradient, create a new adjustment layer: Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation). Settings: Turn on Colorize (Toning), Hue (Color tone) 236.

Create a new layer. Call it Rays. Make sure that the main color is set to White, but secondary Black. Choose a tool Polygon tool (U) (Tool “Polygon”). Tool settings: 1. Fill pixels. 2. In the parameters of the polygon choose “Star“, Depth rays 99%. 3. Parties: 100. The settings below are shown in Adobe Photohop 5 and 6, respectively.

After setting up the tool, click in the center of the document, at the intersection of two guides. Drag the rays until they leave the edges of the document. Without lifting the mouse button, turn the rays so that the vertical beam coincides with the vertical guide.

Change the blending mode of the Rays layer to Difference (Difference).

Step 2

Next, make the original substrate for the text. Create a new layer. Invert colors (Default “X“) so that the main color is Black, background White. Select Custom shape tool (U) (Arbitrary shape tool), in the tool settings, click on the shape selection menu. In the menu that opens, go to the settings: 1. For ease of display, select Small list (Small thumbnails and names). Further in the same list, go down below and select the set Shapes (Figures). Click “OK” in the dialog box that appears, to replace the current arbitrary shapes. In the new list of shapes that appears, find and select a shape. Diamond (Rhombus). Then, in the tool settings, click on the gear thumbnail: select Unconstrained (Random) and From center (From the center).

Click on the center of the document, at the intersection of the two guides, without tearing off the mouse button, create a diamond, elongated shape horizontally.

Change Opacity layer on 40%.

Duplicate the shape layer with the command Ctrl + J. Next, reduce the duplicate by creating the second shape. Enable feature Free transform by team Ctrl + T. In the top settings menu, select “Keep proportions“. Then change the value Widths on 90%. With this value Heights automatically change. Change value Opacity new figure on 50%.

According to the previous scheme, we create the third figure. Duplicate the second shape layer, then turn on Free transform, Ctrl + T. In the top menu, leave the feature disabledKeep proportions“to change the value only Widths on 40%.

Double click on the layer with the first, largest figure to open the settings. Layer style (Layer style). Select Outer glow (External glow) and change the parameters: Opacity (Opacity) 100%, Colour White, Size (The size) 117 pixels.

For convenience, you can group the figures by combining them into one folder with a common name. This will allow, without any difficulty, if desired, change the size of three figures simultaneously.

Step 3

Create a text. Choose a tool Horizontal type tool (T) (The tool “Horizontal text”). Change the main color to gray # b3b3b3. Select a previously downloaded font.Nero“. The size 183 pt. Smoothing method: Do not show. Click on the center and write the word. Align kerning (distance between letters). To do this, click between the letters, hold down the key Alt and move the arrows on the keyboard in the desired direction to increase or decrease kerning. After a satisfactory result, align the word as follows. Create a selection of the entire document using the keys Ctrl + A. Choose a tool Move Tool (V) (Tool “Move”). In the tool settings click on “Alignment centers vertically“and”Horizontal alignment“. Deselect command with Ctrl + D.

Double click on the text layer. Choose a layer style Bevel and Emboss (Emboss), and change the parameters: Depth (Depth) 1000%, Size (The size) 30px, Soften (Softening) 5 pixels. Click OK to apply the new settings.

Step 4

Next, convert the text layer to a smart object. To do this, select the layer in the panel Layers (Layers), right-click on it and select in the context menu Convert to Smart Object (Convert to smart object). This step will allow us to change in real time all the manipulations with the layer in the future, without resorting to the help of the History of our actions. After this, the corresponding icon will appear on the layer thumbnail.

Create a new adjustment layer on top of all layers. Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Curves (Layer – New adjustment layer – Curves). On the panel Properties (Properties) first click on the clipping mask function so that the adjustment layer only affects the previous text layer (smart object). Then edit the curve itself as follows, create on it (just by clicking on the line) the first correction point with coordinates: entrance 46, Output 186. Create another 2 and edit the rightmost point, as shown in the image below.

Slowly approaching the chrome effect.

Duplicate the “Curves” adjustment layer. Immediately it became clear omission clipping mask. Correct the situation by clicking on the duplicate with the right mouse button and select in the context menu Create a Clipping Mask (Create clipping mask).

Let’s return to the smart object. Let’s give it a slight glow on the edges. Double-click on the layer to open the window. Layer style (Layer style). Select Inner glow (Inner Glow): Color White, Choke (Tightening) ten%, Size (The size) 7px.

Change the color of the chrome glow. Create a new adjustment layer on top of all the previous ones. Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation). Immediately create a clipping mask. Change the parameters of the adjustment layer: Turn on Colorize (Toning), Hue (Color tone) 249.

Step 5

Add a gradient inset at the bottom of the text. Create a new layer on top of the rest. Hold key Ctrl and click on the thumbnail of the text layer (smart object), creating a selection around the outline of the text. Squeeze the selection with the command Select – Modify – Contract (Allocation – Modification – Compress) on 3pixel. Then blur the border of the selected area with the command Select – Modify – Feather (Allocation – Modification – Feather) on 2 pixels.

On the panel Layers (Layers), at the bottom, click on the menu Create new fill or adjustment layer (Create a new adjustment layer or a fill layer) and select at the top of the list Gradient (Gradient). At the same time, a layer mask is immediately formed on the new layer, from the previously created selection, which will make it possible to impose a gradient no further than our text. In the settings window that opens Gradient fill (Gradient fill) leave the default settings, but change the color of the gradient. Click on the gradient thumbnail and enter the fill settings. Choose from the standard set fillBlack White“. The position of the source of the White color shift to 20%.

Change Opacity layer on 70%, Blending mode Multiply (Multiplication).

Now, let’s color the fill. Go back to the adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation). Hold key Alt and drag the layer over the gradient layer. Thus, we get a new duplicate adjustment layer. Create a clipping mask for it, so that the effect falls only on a layer with a gradient fill.

Step 6

Let’s go back to the text layer (smart object), open the window Layer style (Layer style). Select Bevel and Emboss (Embossed). In the sub-menu, select Countour (Circuit). In the first section Structure (Structure): Style (Style) Outer bevel (External bevel), Size (The size) 16px. In the section below Shading (Shading): Gloss Contour (Gloss contour) Ring – Double (Double ring). Click “Ok” to close the window and apply the parameters of the edited style.

Step 7

Hold key Ctrl and click on the thumbnail of the text layer to create a selection. Hold the key again Ctrl and click on the button Create a New Layer (Create New Layer) on Panel Layers (Layers) to create a new layer below the text layer. Then blur the selection border, Select – Modify – Feather (Allocation – Modification – Feather) on 7px. Make sure the main color is The black. Hold down the key combination Alt + delete. Deselect the key combination Ctrl+D. Turn on Free transform, Ctrl + T, In the tool settings, turn on “Keep proportions“, and change the Width and Height to 93%. Using tool Move Tool (V) (Move tool) slide the Shadow down a bit. Change Opacity (Opacity) layer on 40%. All such actions, in principle, were carried out earlier, in the previous steps.

Step 8

On the panel Layers (Layers) select the topmost layer by simply pressing the left mouse button on it. Press the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E, to create a single layer based on the underlying. Then select the filter Filter – Render – Lens Flare (Filter – Rendering – Blick). Flare settings: Brightness (Brightness) 70%, Lens type (Lens Type) 105 mm. Move the flare in the thumbnail of the drawing at your discretion, in our case it is located on the upper left corner of the letter “O”.

That’s all. We hope that you liked the lesson, and you will soon send your work. We wish you success!
