Create chrome text in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to use a couple of Photoshop layer styles, including highlights, gradients, and simple patterns to create brilliant chrome text.

OK. Let’s get started!

The final result:

Step 1

Create a new document with the following dimensions 1200 x 800 px, and also change Resolution (Resolution) at 200.

Set the foreground color to # 6c6c6c, and the background color to # 414141, select the tool Gradient (Gradient Tool), in the settings set Radial gradient (Radial Gradient). Click in the center, and then drag the gradient from the center to one of the corners of our working paper.

Step 2

Open the Metal Texture. Move this texture to our working paper, placing it on top of the layer with the background. Change the blending mode for this Metal Textured layer to Multiplication (Multiply).

Step 3

Create text in capital letters using the font TitilliumMaps26L-999wt, font size 100 pt, font color # 666666.

Duplicate the text layer. Reduce value Fillings (Fill) to 0 for duplicate layer.

Double click on the original text layer to apply the following layer styles:

Step 4

Style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss) with the following settings:

  • Method (Technique): Tough faceting (Chisel Hard)
  • Depth (Depth) 350
  • The size (Size): 35
  • Circuit Glossy (Gloss Contour): Ring-Double
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Bright shine (Vivid Light)
  • Mode the shadows (Shadow Mode) – Multiplication (Multiply)

Step 5

Choose next layer style Circuit (Contour). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Circuit (Contour): Cone
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)

Step 6

Next, select the next layer style. Texture (Texture). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Pattern (Pattern): Metal grid (Small crosses)

Step 7

Style Stroke (Stroke) with the following settings:

  • The size (Size): 1
  • Stroke Type (Fill Type): Gradient (Gradient)
  • Style (Style): Linear (Linear)
  • Angle (Angle): 90
  • Use gradient Stainless Steel 30pot

Step 8

Style Shadow (Drop Shadow) with the following settings:

  • Bias (Distance): 20
  • The size (Size): 10

Step 9

So, we created styling for the main text layer.

Now double click on the duplicate text layer to apply the following layer styles.

Step 10

Style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss) with the following settings:

Step 11

Next, select the next layer style. Circuit (Contour). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Circuit (Contour): Cone-Inverted
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)

Step 12

Style Stroke (Stroke) with the following settings:

  • The size (Size): 10
  • Type of strokes (Fill Type): Gradient (Gradient)
  • Style (Style): Linear (Linear)
  • Angle (Angle): 90
  • Use gradient Stainless Steel 30pot

Step 13

Style Internal glow (Inner Glow) with the following settings:

  • Blend mode (Blend Mode): Linear light (Linear Light)
  • Opacity (Opacity): 75%
  • Noise (Noise): 100%
  • Color classification: # e8e8e8
  • The size (Size): 5

Step 14

So we applied styling to the outer stroke.

Step 15

Open the original image with a highlight. Move this image to our working paper. Place the flare layer on top of all other layers. Apply scaling to your liking.

Next, go Image – Correction – Levels (Image> Adjustments> Levels). Click icon Sample image to set the black point (Sample in image to set black point), and then click on the dark part of the image. Thus, we convert all the dark tones to black.

Step 16

Change the blending mode for the layer with the light flare to Linear clarifier (Add) (Linear Dodge (Add)). Place a highlight on the bottom of one of the letters. Again, you can apply scaling to the light glare if necessary.

Step 17

Duplicate the layer with the light flare. Place a duplicate layer with a highlight on the top of one of the letters.

Step 18

Press the button Create a new adjustment or fill layer (Create new fill or adjustment layer) at the bottom of the layers panel and in the appeared menu select the option Gradient (Gradient).

Step 19

In the gradient settings window, set the gradient from transparent to fill color. Gradient colors: # 6d6d6d on the left and # 333333 on right. Set gradient type Radial (Radial) as well as install Scale (Scale) at 200.

Do not forget to place this adjustment layer. Gradient (Gradient) on top of all other layers, and also change the blending mode to Overlap (Overlay).

Step 20

Press the button again. Create a new adjustment or fill layer (Create new fill or adjustment layer) at the bottom of the layers panel and in the appeared menu select the option Map gradient (Gradient Map).

Set the gradient that is shown in the screenshot below. Change the blending mode for this adjustment layer to Chromaticity (Color) and also reduce Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 50%.
