Create edible text in Photoshop

Note: You can easily find free food icons on the Internet.

Step 1. Create a new document (Ctrl + N) with a size of 1000×600 pixels. Choose a tool Gradient (Gradient Tool) (G): Style (Style) – Radial (Radial), colors: from # ffd800 to # ffae00. Fill the background layer.

Get this result:

Step 2. Insert the texture of crumpled paper into the main document. Resize it with the tool Free transform (Ctrl + T). Set Blending Mode to Overlap (Overlay) and lower the Opacity to 35%.


Step 3. Choose a tool Horizontal text (Horizontal Type Tool) (T) and write a few large letters in the center of the canvas. Font settings:
Font Face: Arial Rounded MT Bold
Size: 400pt
Kerning (-Kerning): -50
Color (Color): ffffff

Step 4. Install Fill (Fill) layer at 0% and apply style Stroke (Layer> Layer Style> Stroke) (Layer> Layer Style> Stroke): Color – # d80000, size – 3 pixels.


Step 5. Now we need food icons. From the downloaded set, insert the icons into our document inside the text. With the tool Free transform (Ctrl + T) you can change their size. Apply a style to each layer of the icon. Stroke (Stroke).

It is not necessary to do this for each layer separately. There is a faster way. Right-click on the style in the layers palette and select Copy layer style (Copy Layer Style). Then right-click on the icon layer and select the item Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style).
Double click on a style to change its settings.


Step 6. Continue the process of adding icons until you have filled out all the letters. After that, hide all layers except icon layers. Go to Layer> Merge Visible. All icons will be merged into one layer.

Step 7. Apply style to icon layer. External glow (Layer> Layer Style> Outer Glow) (Layer> Layer Style> Outer Glow): Color – # 633b0c.


Step 8. Make a copy of the icon layer (Ctrl + J). Place it under the original layer go to menu Editing> Transform> Flip Vertically (Edit> Transform> Flip Vertical). Apply the Color Overlay style to the copy (Layer> Layer Style> Color Overlay) (Layer> Layer Style> Color Overlay): The color is black.

Step 9. Go to the menu Editing> Transform> Distort (Edit> Transform> Distort) and drag out the corners of the black text.

Then go to menu Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur): The radius (Radius) is 12 pixels.

Lower the Opacity of the layer to 30% and go to the menu Layer> Mask Layer> Show All (Layer> Layer Mask> Reveal All). Choose a tool Gradient (Gradient Tool) (G): Style (Style) – Linear (Linear), Color – from black to transparent. Make a fill from the bottom of the canvas up. This is necessary in order to hide the lower part of the shadow.

Step 10. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and name it “dark shadow”. Choose a tool Brush (Brush Tool) (B) with soft edges and black shadow to enhance it.

Step 11. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) on top of all others and call it “dodge / burn”. Go to menu Editing> Fill (Edit> Fill) and select 50% gray color. Choose a tool Brush (Brush Tool) (B) with soft edges and set the Opacity parameter to 10%. Outline the dark places on the letters. Then white color to paint the bright places.

Set Blending Mode to Overlap (Overlay).

Step 12. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and name it “white bars”. Tools Lasso (Lasso Tool) (L) and Fill (Paint Bucket Tool) (G) Create several diagonal white lines.

After that apply filter Gaussian blur (Filter> Blur> Blur Gaussian) (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur): The radius (Radius) is 12 pixels. Make a selection of the text layer (hold down the Ctrl key, click on the layer thumbnail in the layers palette), invert it (Ctrl + Shift + I) and on the layer with lines, press the Delete key.
Install Blend mode (Blending mode) on Overlap (Overlay) and Opacity at 35%.

Step 13. Create a new “ketchup” layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and tool Pen (Pen Tool) (P) Draw the outline shown below.

Right click on the canvas and select To form a selected area (Make Selection). Fill the selection with color # cb0000.

Step 14. Apply a style to the ketchup layer.Shadow (Layer> Layer Style> Drop Shadow) (Layer> Layer Style> Drop Shadow)


Step 15. Add a few drops and drips in the same way.

Step 16. Create a new layer on top of the rest and name it “ketchup shading”. Make a selection of the ketchup layer (hold down the Ctrl key and click on the layer icon) and black brush With soft edges and opacity of 10%, draw the shadows on the ketchup. White color the same brush draw glow. As a result, ketchup will be voluminous.

Step 17. Create a new “vignette” layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and use a black brush with soft edges to paint the edges of the canvas to create a vignetting effect. Use low brush opacity.
