Create silver text

In this lesson you will learn how to create a silver effect on text from scratch using several Photoshop tools, various blending options, etc. Let’s start!

Materials for the lesson:

Step 1. Create a new document (Ctrl +N) in Adobe Photoshop with a size of 1920x1200px (RGB color mode) in resolution of 72 pixels / inch, Background – Black.

Click Horizontal Type tool (Horizontal Text (T)). Select the font (Author used the font “Berlin Sans FB Derni”), size and color in the “Symbol” panel.

Click on the image and type in any text. Click Enter, to apply the text.

Step 2 Select Add a layer style (Add style to layer) at the bottom Layer Panels (Layers panel) and click on Inner glow (Internal glow):

Got the following effect:

Step 3. Make a copy of the newly made layer and select Free transform (Free Transform (Ctrl +T)) to move the top copy. We must also change the text color to white and remove the layer styles:

Step 4. Make a copy of the last level you made and repeat step 4 above, using Free transform (Free Transform (Ctrl + T)). Change the text color to #C3B3B5

This is what should happen:

Step 5. Add a layer style Drop shadow (Shadow):

AND Bevel and Emboss (Embossed)

Got the following effect:

Step 6. Create a new layer. Choose a tool Brush tool (Brush (B)) to add visual clutter. Take a brush with the following parameters:

This layer should be placed below other layers, but above the background. To do this, simply drag it to the layers panel.

On a new layer Create new layer (Create a new layer) we will paint with a soft round brush. Brush color #26201E and Opacity (Opacity) – 15%.

The layer will also be located lower than the layers containing the text.

Step 7. The next step we will download from the archive brush for in Adobe Photoshop. Create a new layer and select the next brush from the loaded set.

Make a couple of brush strokes as shown. Brush color is gray (Opacity (opacity) 15 %). This layer will be placed lower than the layer containing 2010.

Settings for the last layer made Fill (fill) – 66% and change Blending Mode (blend mode) on Screen (lightening)

Create a new layer again and select soft brush (Brush Tool (B)) with white color.

Use the lighting below the text layers to create:

Then we will create a new layer that we fill with the tool. Paint bucket tool (fill (G)) color # 545454. The layer should be located lower than the text layers in the layers panel:

Add noise to this layer by applying Filter> Noise> Add Noise (Filters> Noise> Add Noise) with the following parameters

We got the following background:

… and then apply Filter> Blur> Radial blur (Filter> Blur> Radial Blur) with the following parameters

We get:

… and finally apply Filter> Filter Gallery> Glowing Edges (Filters> Filter Gallery> Edge Glow)


Add a layer mask from the bottom of the layer group. Change the foreground color to black. Take a soft brush, color black

Paint around the text to remove the ray effect. Change Blending Mode (blend mode) on Screen (lightening)

Create a new layer and select Paint bucket tool (Fill (G)) to fill the layer with this color – # 6A413F. Place this layer under layers containing 2010 text.

Changeable Fill (fill) -25% and change Blending mode (blending mode) on Overlay (Overlap)

Now we can finish the image by adding the following Adjustment layers(adjustment layers)> Curves (Curves)
