In this Photoshop tutorial, you will learn how to create text from simple geometric shapes. This is a very simple and interesting lesson. In this lesson you will learn how to use the tool. Figure (Shape Tool).
Note: This lesson is done in Photoshop CC – so some screenshots may differ slightly from previous versions of the program. Some brushes are only available in this version of Photoshop CS6.
OK. Let’s get started!
Create a new 1400 x 720 px document in Adobe Photoshop. Fill the background with a light gray tint. Next, using a large soft white brush, draw a spot in the center of the image.
The word we write is ‘METRO’. We will start with the letter ‘M’.
Choose a tool Rectangle (Rectangle Tool) in the toolbar.
To draw a black rectangle, make the following settings.
Draw the next shape.
Activate the tool Free transformation (Free Transform Tool) to apply Distortion (Distort). Apply the distortion to the rectangle, creating the next shape, for this, pull the lower right corner of the rectangle towards the center of the shape.
The result should be as in the screenshot below.
Duplicate the distorted shape layer, and then flip horizontally (flip horizontally) duplicate layer. Create the next shape.
Next, select the tool Polygon (Polygon Tool) in the toolbar.
Make the following settings for this tool. Polygon (Polygon Tool).
Draw a triangle as shown in the screenshot below.
Now select the tool again. Rectangle (Rectangle Tool). Draw a pink rectangle in the center to make a letter. The result should be as in the screenshot below.
Next, we will create the letter ‘E’. Using the same tool Rectangle (Rectangle Tool), draw the next rectangle shape.
Same tool Rectangle (Rectangle Tool), draw 2 pink rectangles as shown in the screenshot below.
Add another pink rectangle on top.
Next, we will create the letter ‘T’. Draw the next shape of the rectangle, as shown in the screenshot below.
Draw another rectangle to complete the letter ‘T’.
Add a triangle after the letter ‘T’; fill this triangle with a light-gray tint so that the letter T ’stands out.
Next, we will create the letter ‘R’. Using tool Rectangle (Rectangle Tool), draw the next gray shape.
Duplicate the layer with the drawn figure. Activate the tool Free transformation (Free Transform Tool) to apply tilt Incline (Srew). Tilt the duplicate layer as shown in the screenshot below.
Next, draw a pink circle with the tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool) to complete the letter ‘R’.
Now we will create the letter ‘O’. Draw a circle with black fill, as shown in the screenshot below.
Draw another pink circle inside the black circle to make the letter ‘O’.
Next, we will complete the creation of the text by adding a grunge effect. Create a new layer on top of the layer with the background. Install brushes that you can download from the link at the beginning of this tutorial. Draw a grunge pattern behind the text.
Group all layers with letters in one group. Create a new layer on top of the created group as a clipping mask.
Add a grunge effect over the letters as shown in the screenshot below.
This step is optional.
You can apply filter Plastics (Liquify Filter) to text. To do this, create a merged layer from all visible layers (Alt + Ctl + Shift + E). Duplicate the merged layer, and then go Filter – Plastic (Filter – Liquify) and in the appeared window of the filter settings select the tool Clockwise twist (Twirl Clockwise Tool).
Set the following settings.
Apply the tool Clockwise twist (Twirl Clockwise Tool) in the following sections of the text.
In conclusion, I made a small text color correction using a correction layer. Color Balance (Color Balance).
Congratulations! We have completed the lesson! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it was useful for you. Until next time, have a great day!
