Create text from fried sausages in Photoshop

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create text from fried sausages in Photoshop using layer styles and the texture of the food, in this case, the texture of the meat. The text of meat sausages goes well with mustard, therefore, we will add such detail as mustard, which you can see on the final image.

OK. Let’s get started!

The final result:

Step 1

Let’s start with a simple wood texture that we use as a background for our text. The texture resembles an ordinary wooden table. Next, on the wooden texture layer, apply a correction Brightness / Contrast (Brightness / Contrast) to darken the texture.

Step 2

Add the texture of an old newspaper to our working paper. Remove white background from newspaper texture. Duplicate the texture of the old newspaper, rotate both newspapers, as shown in the screenshot below. For each layer with the texture of the old newspaper, add layer styles Shadow (Drop Shadow).

Step 3

Select both layers with the texture of an old newspaper, then right-click on the selected layers and in the appeared window select the option Convert to smart object (convert into smart object); Next, to the layer with the smart object, add an adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation).

Step 4

Add text using a font you like. I used the Latha font, which is in the standard font set of Photoshop CS5. In this tutorial for beginners to learn Photoshop, you will learn how to install a new font. To make the font bigger, and also add rounded corners to the text, I applied a layer style. Stroke (Stroke).

Step 5

Next, convert the layer with your text into a smart object, and then rasterize the resulting layer. From this point on, you will not be able to edit the text anymore, so now we will correct the text. Using tool Eraser (Eraser Tool), set a hard round brush, create a sausage of letters, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 6

Once again, convert the rasterized text layer into a smart object. Duplicate the smart object layer 4 times. Name the layers: 1, 2, 3, 4. To each layer, we apply a different layer style. So let’s start with layer 1.

Step 7

Next, apply the following layer styles for layer 2; “sausage texture pattern” for layer style Overlapping pattern (Pattern Overlay) can be downloaded from the link at the beginning of the lesson. The ZIP archive also includes a texture for use in the following steps.

Step 8

Next, apply the following layer styles for layer 3:

Step 9

Next, apply the following layer styles for layer 4:

Step 10

Create a new layer. Using tool Pen (Pen Tool), draw the following figures. Once you have created the first figure, click Add to the shape area (Add to shape area) so that all the created figures are on the same layer. Or you can create each figure on a separate layer, and then merge all the layers together.

Step 11

To create the effect of cuts with a knife from these figures, we must add the following layer styles, which are shown in the screenshot below.

Step 12

The text from the fried sausages should look about, as in the screenshot below:

Step 13

As a final touch, I added mustard with a hard round brush. You can download layer styles to create a mustard effect at the link at the beginning of the lesson. So, we have completed the lesson, you can see the final result in the screenshot below.
