Create text from rusty metal in Photoshop

In this tutorial, we will create interesting 3D text from rusty metal in Photoshop using layer styles and textures. To simplify the process, for this lesson we use a ready-made 3D text template. We will simply correct the layer styles, add the texture of the rusty metal and the result is ready. You can use this rusty metal effect in your text and shape creation projects.

Step 1

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create text from rusty metal in Photoshop using simple layer styles, as well as the texture of rusty metal. First, you need to download a PSD file with a 3D text template.

Step 2

Now we need to configure the PSD template that you just downloaded. Let’s start with the text. Double click on the thumbnail of the “3D text by psddude” layer to open it.

Press the ‘OK’ button.

Step 3

Double-click the “3d effect by psddude” layer thumbnail again to open this smart object.

Step 4

Inside you will find a layer with text. Just replace the text.

You can also change the font size, as well as the font itself. I used the font ‘Black Ops One’ – you can download this font for free at the link at the beginning of this lesson.

Step 5

Save the smart object, and then close it to see the result. Next, on the “3d effect by psddude” layer, apply the following layer styles as well as the settings shown in the screenshots below.

Apply layer style Shadow (Drop Shadow), color # 121212

Step 7

Apply layer style Inner shadow (Inner Shadow), color # 49291b

Step 8

Apply layer style Internal glow (Inner Glow), color # 5e5959

Step 9

Apply layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss), colors are white and. # 121212

Apply layer style Color overlay (Color Overlay), color # 3c1d10

Step 11

Apply layer style Overlapping pattern (Pattern Overlay). I used a rusty metal texture to create a rusty metallic effect. You can download the texture by the link at the beginning of this tutorial.

Step 12

Save the smart object, and then close it to see the result.

Now add the following layer styles to the “3D text by psddude” layer.

Now, all you have to do is add a beautiful background to your taste. It can be a grunge wall texture, wood texture, etc. The final result of the text of rusty metal, you can see in the screenshot below.
