In this simple tutorial, you will learn how to create royal gold text using layer styles in Photoshop. Let’s get started!

Starting materials

Step 1. Create a new document 600×400 pixels in RGB mode and with a resolution of 72 DPI with any background color. Prepare lesson assets: install the Xenippa font on your computer and open both .PAT files.

Note translator: If you do not know how to install the font, see this tutorial. If you can not set the texture, then this article will help you.

Step 2. We go to Menu> Layers> Layer Style> Blend Options (Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Blending Options), Use the settings below. You can also bring up the layer style window by double-clicking on the layer in the panel. Another way is to right-click on the layer in the palette and select the Blending Options from the pop-up menu. When all the parameters below are applied, do not forget to click “OK” in the window to save the changes.

Step 3. The work on the background finished, now proceed to the text. First take the tool Text (Type tool) (T) select the Xenippa font, set the size to 250 pt and the anti-aliasing method Sharp. Type your text in the center of the image. You can write any word, in this lesson I decided to print “Lord”.

Step 4. Now let’s deal with the styles of the text layer. We go to Menu> Layers> Layer Style> Blend Options (Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Blending Options), Use the settings below. You can use one of the quick calls to layer styles, which are described in step 2. When you have applied all the settings, click “OK” to save them.

Step 4. We are close to the final. Now we need to duplicate the text layer. Standing on a layer with text, go to Menu> Layers> Duplicate Layer (Menu> Layer> Duplicate layer) call it as you wish. Now go to Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Clear Layer Styles (Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Clear Layer Style), because for this layer we will use other styles.

Again go to Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Blend Options (Menu> Layer> Layer Style> Blending Options), use the settings below. Or you can use the quick methods to open the style window, which are described in step 2. Do not forget to click “OK” when you apply all the settings.
