Create text in the form of a colorful pendant in Photoshop

Looking for a beautiful gift? In this tutorial, I will show you how to use layer styles, textures, and shapes to create bright and colorful text in the form of a pendant.

The final result:

1. Create a background

Step 1

Create a new document with the following dimensions 1024 x 683 px. Place the texture of the Satin fabric over the layer with Background (Background). Apply scaling as needed.

Step 2

Press the button Create a new adjustment or fill layer (Create new fill or adjustment layer) at the bottom of the layers panel and in the appeared menu select the option Levels (Levels).

Step 3

In the settings window of the adjustment layer Levels (Levels), set the value Gammas (Gamma) at 1.85, and the value Light glare (Highlights) at 205. So we will make the texture lighter.

2. Create text and stroke styling.

Step 1

Create text using the Sedona Script FLF font, font size 350 pt, font color # f062b2.

Duplicate the text layer twice. Reduce value Fillings (Fill) for the second duplicate layer to 0.

Double click on the original text layer to apply the following layer styles:

Step 2

Add a layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss). Set the following settings for this style:

  • Method (Technique): Embossing (Stroke Emboss)
  • The size (Size): 8
  • Circuit Glossy (Gloss Contour): Cone (Cone)
  • Put the tick in the window Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Linear shine (Linear Light)
  • Opacity (Opacity): 75%
  • Mode the shadows (Shadow Mode) – Multiplication (Multiply)
  • Opacity (Opacity): 50%

Step 3

Choose next layer style Circuit (Contour). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Circuit (Contour): Cone
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)

Step 4

Next, select the next layer style. Stroke (Stroke). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • The size (Size): 1
  • Position (Position): Outside (outside)
  • Stroke Type (Fill Type): Gradient (Gradient)
  • Style (Style): Mirror (Reflected)
  • Angle (Angle): 90
  • Use gradient stove pipe 80

Step 5

Next, select the next layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Opacity (Opacity): 45%
  • Bias (Distance): 11
  • The size (Size): 20

Step 6

Click the ‘+’ icon to add another layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Blend mode (Blend Mode): Darkening basics (Color burn)
  • Opacity (Opacity): 15%
  • Bias (Distance): 10
  • The size (Size): 5

So, we created the styling of the pendant stroke.

3. Styling the first duplicate of the text layer.

Now double-click on the first duplicate of the text layer to apply the following layer styles.

Step 1

Add a layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss). Set the following settings for this style:

  • Method (Technique): Smooth (Smooth)
  • Depth (Depth): 100
  • The size (Size): 16
  • Circuit Glossy (Gloss Contour): Double ring (Ring-Double)
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Bright shine (Vivid Light)
  • Shadow mode (Shadow Mode) – Darkening basics (Color burn)
  • Colour: # 4c0d33

Step 2

Next, select the next layer style. Circuit (Contour). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Circuit (Contour): Guassian – Inverse
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)

Step 3

Next, select the next layer style. Texture (Texture). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Pattern (Pattern): Metallic Snakeskin

So, we applied styling to the first duplicate of the text layer.

4. Stylize the second duplicate of the text layer.

Now double-click on the second duplicate of the text layer to apply the following layer styles.

Step 1

Add a layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss). Set the following settings for this style:

  • Method (Technique): Smooth (Smooth)
  • Depth (Depth): 100
  • The size (Size): 18
  • Contour of glossy (Gloss Contour): Inverted cone (Cone – Inverted)
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Linear shine (Linear Light)
  • Mode the shadows (Shadow Mode) – Linear dimmer (Linear Burn)
  • Colour: # 11d6b3

Step 2

Next, select the next layer style. Texture (Texture). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Pattern (Pattern): Metallic Snakeskin

So, we applied styling to the second duplicate of the text layer.

5. We create fastening rings

Step 1

Choose a tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool). Hold down (Shift), draw a circle of 25 x 25 px.

Press and hold (Alt) to subtract a small circle from the large circle.

Click + drag the cursor, release the (Alt) key, now press and hold the (Shift) key. Next, create a smaller circle measuring 15 x 15 px.

You can press and hold Space (Spacebar) to move a small circle. Release the key Space (Spacebar) when a small circle is in the center of a large circle. Thus, we will create a ring shape.

Step 2

Duplicate the shape layer Ellipse 1 (Ellipse 1) three times. Name the second duplicate layer Ellipse 2 (Ellipse 2), and the third duplicate layer Ellipse 2 copy (Ellipse 2 copy).

6. Stylize the bottom layer with a ring.

Double click the layer Ellipse 1 (Ellipse 1) to apply the following layer styles.

Step 1

Add a layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss). Set the following settings for this style:

  • Method (Technique): Smooth (Smooth)
  • Depth (Depth): 100
  • The size (Size): 7
  • Circuit Glossy (Gloss Contour): Ring (Ring)
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Linear shine (Linear Light)
  • Mode the shadows (Shadow Mode) – Opacity (Opacity): 50%

Step 2

Next, select the next layer style. Circuit (Contour). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Circuit (Contour): Cone (Cone)
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)

Step 3

Next, select the next layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Opacity (Opacity): 45%
  • Bias (Distance): 11
  • The size (Size): 20

Step 4

Add another layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Blend mode (Blend Mode) – Darkening basics (Color burn)
  • Opacity (Opacity): 15%
  • Bias (Distance): 10
  • The size (Size): 5

Step 5

So, we applied styling to the bottom layer with a ring.

Right click on the layer Ellipse 1 (Ellipse 1) and in the window that appears, select the option Copy layer style (Copy Layer Style). Next, right-click on the layer Ellipse 2 (Ellipse 2 layer) and in the window that appears select the option Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style).

7. Styling duplicate layers with rings.

Double click on the layer Ellipse 1 copy (Ellipse 1 copy) to apply the following layer styles.

Step 1

Add a layer style Stamping (Bevel and Emboss). Set the following settings for this style:

  • Method (Technique): Smooth (Smooth)
  • Depth (Depth): 100
  • The size (Size): 7
  • Contour of glossy (Gloss Contour): Ring (Ring)
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)
  • Mode backlight (Highlight Mode): Linear shine (Linear Light)
  • Mode the shadows (Shadow Mode) – Opacity (Opacity): 50%

Step 2

Next, select the next layer style. Circuit (Contour). Set the following settings for this layer style:

  • Circuit (Contour): Inverted cone (Cone – Inverted)
  • Tick ​​in the box Smoothing (Anti-aliased)

Step 3

So, we applied styling to the second duplicate of the layer with the ring. Copy / Paste Layer Styles to Layer Ellipse 2 copy (Ellipse 2 copy).

8. Add a chain

Step 1

Open the original image with a pendant. Using tool Lasso (Lasso Tool), select the right fragment of the chain. You can use the tool Fast selection (Quick selection tool) or tool Magnetic Lasso (Magnetic Lasso Tool) to create a selection around a fragment of the chain.

Next, go Editing – Copy (Edit> Copy) and then return to our working paper.

Step 2

Let’s go Editing – Paste (Edit> Paste) and then go Image – Correction – Discolor (Image> Adjustments> Desaturate).

Place a layer with a chain fragment on top of all layers with Ellipses (Ellipse), apply scaling if necessary. Using tool Move (Move Tool), place a fragment of the chain above the right fastening ring.

Step 3

Copy / Paste Layer Styles Ellipse 1 (Ellipse 1) to the layer with a chain fragment. Double-click on the layer with the chain so that the layer style settings window appears. Disable layer styles Stamping (Bevel and Emboss) and Circuit (Contour).

So we applied a single layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow) to the layer with the chain.

Step 4

Duplicate the chain layer. Next we go Editing – Transformation – Flip Horizontal (Edit> Transform> Flip Vertical). Position the vertical fragment of the chain over the left fastening ring.

9. Add highlights and blur to the background.

Step 1

Create a new layer on top of all other layers. Name this layer Glare (Flares), change the blending mode for this layer to Linear light (Linear Light).

Choose a tool Brush (Brush Tool), set the foreground color to # f4f1e2.

Choose any brush from the Star and Glare brush set, reduce the size, if you want, you can also change the angle of the brush in the settings panel Window – Brush (Window> Brush). Add a few small highlights to the brightest parts of the text.

Step 2

Go to the satin fabric layer and then go Filter – Gallery of filters Blur – Tilt shift (Filter> Blur Gallery> Tilt-Shift). Set the value Blur (Blur) at 7, and then pull the lines to get a result that you like.

10. Add Shadows

Step 1

Select all layers with text, with ellipses and fragments of a chain. Duplicate the selected layers, then right-click on any of the duplicated layers and in the appeared window select the option Clear layer styles (Clear Layer Style). Next, go Layer – Merge Layers (Layer> Merge Layers).

Name the merged layer Shadow (Shadow), place this layer on top of the adjustment layer. Levels (Levels).

Step 2

Next, go Image – Correction – Hue / Saturation (Image> Adjustments> Hue / Saturation). Reduce value Brightness (Lightness) to -100.

Step 3

Let’s go Filter – Convert to Smart Filters (Filter> Convert for Smart Filters), and then go Filter – Blur – Motion Blur (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur). Change Angle (Angle) at -35, and the value Offsets (Amount) at 115.

Step 4

Using tool Move (Move Tool), position the shadow so that it falls from the text.

Step 5

Change the blending mode for the layer with the shadow on Multiplication (Multiply) and also reduce Opacity (Opacity) layer to 7, or set the value of opacity at its discretion.

Step 6

Finally, using the tool Move (Move Tool), slightly shift the layer Ellipse 1 copy (Ellipse 1 copy) and Ellipse 2 copy (Ellipse 2 copy). This will create a 3D feel.

Step 7

Do not forget that you can shift and resize any part of the created effect if you want to make changes.

In this lesson we conducted a light correction of satin fabric, created a couple of layers with text, stylized them to create the main effect.

Next, with the tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool), we created the shapes of the rings, to which we also applied styling. Finally, we added a few highlights and blurred the background to complete the effect.
