Materials for the lesson:

Step 1. Open the image with a metallic texture. Create a new document with a size of 700×960 pixels with a black background. Insert the metal texture into this document and tool Free transform (Free Transform) change its size to fit the canvas.

Note: Do not close the document with a metal texture, you will need it later.

Lower the Opacity of the layer to 20%.

Step 2. Create three adjustment layers above this texture (click on the black and white circle icon at the bottom of the layers palette. , to get a list of corrective layers):

Black-white (Black and White):

Levels (Levels):

Choose a tool Brush (Brush Tool) (B) with soft edges: Opacity and Press (Flow) – 70%. Draw a mask of the adjustment layer Levels (Levels), as shown below.

Curves (Curves):

Step 3. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and set its Opacity to 20%. Choose a tool Lasso (Lasso Tool) (L): Feather – 40%. Create a selection as shown below. Then apply filterClouds (Filter> Rendering> Clouds) (Filter> Render> Clouds).

Next, create elements that add texture to our image.
Tool Rectangular area (Rectangular Marquee Tool) (M) create a selection as shown below and fill it with black color on the new layer.

Go to menu Filter> Plastic (Filter> Liquify), select the D tooldeformation (Warp Tool) and configure it like this:

Modify the rectangle like this:

Make multiple copies of the layer and tool. Free transform (Ctrl + T) rotate them. Set different opacity for layers and place on canvas in different places.

You can change the color of some copies by simply inverting (Ctrl + I).

Step 4. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and tool Horizontal text (Horizontal Type Tool) (T) write the letter “A”. It should be placed in the center of the canvas. Set the Opacity of this layer to 45%.

Apply a style to the letter layer. Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay) (click on the fx icon at the bottom of the layers palette to get a list of styles).

Add a mask to the letter layer (click on the mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette). And, using brushes with sprays, paint the areas marked in the screenshot with areas of arrows. Adjust the brush in the following way: opacity and pressure about 50%, color – black.

Make a selection of the text layer (while holding Ctrl, click on the layer icon) and drag it onto the metal texture. Copy it (Ctrl + C) and paste it into our document (Ctrl + V).

Note: make a selection of the text layer, activate the instument Rectangular area (Rectangular Marquee Tool), hover over the selection, hold the RMB and drag the selection to the title of the document with the texture, wait until the texture document opens, hover the cursor on the canvas, release the mouse button.

Brush the edges again with a spray brush, as in the previous step. Add a layer mask and paint it in black as shown below.

Create three adjustment layers, each with a clipping mask for a layer with a metal texture (create a clipping mask — Ctrl + Alt + G) that you just worked on.

Black-white (Black and White):

Levels (Levels):

Curves (Curves):

Result:

Step 5. Using the method described in step 3, create a small area with clouds. Tool Free transform (Ctrl + T) squeeze it and position it at the base of the letter.

Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) with an opacity of 50%. On it, create a few small areas with clouds.

Create another layer with an opacity of 30%. Create clouds in the areas below.

Using a spray brush, arbitrarily paint them around the letter on a new layer.

Using a soft brush and a layer mask, erase some splashes.

Additionally, you can add black lines to the text created using the tool. Plastics (see step 3). You can also use a brush with splinters.

Step 6. Go to menu Layer> Flatten (Layer> Flatten Image). Make a copy of the resulting layer (Ctrl + J) and apply a filter Colour contrast (Filter> Other> Color Contrast) (Filter> Other> High Pass).

Install Blend mode (Blending Mode) copies with filter on Hard light (Hard Light). The image will be a little sharper.

You can also add clouds around the text to create a motion effect.

With the help of correction Levels (Levels) process the surface to create more depth.

Finally, you can add some tone to the whole image with the help of a correction layer. Color balance (Color Balance).
