Fragmented tile

In this lesson, we will learn to create a “fragmented tile” effect.

Step 1. Create a document (Ctrl + N) size 640×480 pix. and resolution 72 ppi, The background is white.

Step 2. Restore default colors by pressing D, and then fill the document black color (Alt +Backspace).

Step 3. In the color picker, choose a dark green color (034F03):

Step 4. Select the Horizontal Text tool (Horizontal type Tool), bold type, for example, Impact, write the word “digital”.

Using Edit \ Transform \ Scale (Edit \ Transform \ Zoom) or Ctrl + T, increase text size.

Step 5. Next right click on the layer and select Rasterize layer (Rasterize layer).

Step 6. Duplicate the text layer (Ctrl + J).

Now we will make the layer with the original invisible. To do this, click on the eye on the layers palette.

Step 7. Now apply the filter. Filter \ Stylize \ Tiles (Filter \ Stylize \ Split), Settings, as in the screenshot:

Click Ctrl + F, to apply the filter a second time.

Step 8. Using the tool Magic wand (Magic wand),

click on the white color while holding the key Shift and clicking Magic wand(Magic Wand), select all the white areas.

Press the key Delete or Editing \ Clear (Edit \Clear), remove selection Ctrl +D.

Step 9. Let’s go back to the original layer and duplicate it. (Ctrl + J).

Make this layer visible.

In the color picker, select the green color (157-15):

And fill the text with new color by pressing the keys Shift + Alt + Backspace

Step 10. Go toImage\ RotateCanvas\ 90 ° CW at 90 ° by h / s (Image \ Rotate Canvas \90 ° clockwise.

Step 11. Apply filter again Filter \ Stylize \ Tiles (Filter \ Stylize \ Split), 3 times with the same settings, i.e. click Ctrl + F 3 times.

Step 12. Using the tool Magic wand (Magic Wand), click on the white color while holding the key Shift and clicking Magic wand(Magic Wand), select all the white areas. Press the key Delete or Editing \ Clear, remove selection Ctrl +D.

Step 13. Duplicate the original layer again. (Ctrl + J).

Make the new layer visible.

In the color picker, select a light shade of green (43a743):

And fill the text with new color by pressing the keys Shift + Alt + Backspace

Step 14. Go to Image\ RotateCanvas \ 90 ° CW at 90 ° h / s (Image \ Rotate Canvas \90 degrees clockwise).

Step 15. Apply filter again Filter \ Stylize \ Tiles (Filter \ Stylize \ Split) 4 times with the same settings, i.e., press Ctrl + F 4 times.

Step 16. Using the tool Magic wand (Magic Wand), click on the white color while holding the key Shift and clicking Magic wand (Magic Wand), select all the white areas. Press the key Delete or Editing \ Clear, remove selection Ctrl +D.

Step 17. Duplicate the original layer again. (Ctrl + J).
Make the new layer visible.

In the color picker, choose a green color a tone lighter than the previous one.
And fill the text with new color by pressing the keys Shift + Alt + Backspace

Step 18. Go toImage\ RotateCanvas\ 90 ° CW at 90 ° C / s (Image \ Rotate Canvas \90 ° clockwise).

Step 19. Again apply the filter Filter \ Stylize \ Tiles (Filter \ Stylize \ Split) 5 times with the same settings, i.e.. we will press Ctrl + F 5 times.

Step 20. Repeat Step 16.

Step 21 And for the last time! Create a duplicate of the original (Ctrl + J). Make the new layer visible.

In the color picker, choose a green one tone lighter than the previous one.
And fill the text with new color by pressing the keys Shift + Alt + Backspace

Step 22 Repeat Step 18.

Step 23 Apply filter Filter \ Stylize \ Tiles 6 times with the same settings, i.e., press Ctrl + F 6 times.

Step 24 Repeat Step 16.

Step 25. Call the window Layer Styles \ Layer Styles:

Stroke\ Stroke:

And here is the final result:
