How to make a snow hat in Photoshop

In this lesson we will learn how to create a snow cap on the letters.

So, let’s begin.

Create a file and write some text.

(I created an image with dimensions 277 * 90 with background B5B5B5 and added text in Impact in 60pt font with color CC0000.)

You can add effects to your text.

I added these:

Drop shadow with the following parameters:

Bevel and Emboss with the following parameters:

Stroke with the following parameters:

Next, hold down the key CTRL and click on the name of the layer.

You will notice that all text is highlighted.

Next, take the tool Rectangular marquee tool and put it in subtraction mode and remove the bottom of the selection.

Then go to the menu item Select -> Feather, there parameter Feather radius set value 5px and click OK. At this point, our image will look something like this:

Again take the tool Rectangular marquee tool, put it in normal mode New selection and move the selection to the top.

Create a new layer and fill it with white paint. Remove selection with key combination CTRL + D.

It remains only to give our layer of snow some effects.

“Stand up” on the layer that was created (I have this layer Layer1) and give it the following effects:

Drop shadow with the following parameters:

Outer glow with the following parameters:

Bevel and Emboss with the following parameters:

Also tick the box Contur

As a result, by this moment you should get something like the following:

In principle, it is already quite good, but you can still improve our work by adding a bit of crumbly snow. To do this, duplicate the snow layer (click CTRL + J, either through the menu Layer -> Duplicate Layer) and set the “overlay” parameter to it Dissolve, and the parameters Opacity and Fill put in the same position as in the picture below.

Here’s what I ended up with:
