Materials for the lesson:

Step 1

Create a new document with a size of 700 x 1120 pixels with a black background. Open in Photoshop one of the textures set Ice. Via Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection) (M) select the necessary area:

Copy (CTRL + C) and paste (CTRL + V) the selected area onto the working document (adjust the size if necessary) and apply the filter Filter – Artistic – Dry Brush (Filter – Artistic – Dry brush):

And we get the following result:

Soft eraser(E) erase the excess areas:

Step 2

Above the texture layer, add several adjustment layers:

Selective color (Selective color correction)

Levels (Levels)

Curves (Curves)

And we get this effect:

Step 3

We write the letter in the center of the working canvas:

Now add some ice textures to it. Activate Polygonal Lasso Tool (Rectangular lasso) (L):

Select the area shown below:

Copy (CTRL + C) and paste (CTRL + V) the selected area onto the working document, rotate and adjust (CTRL + T) the icicle size, as shown below:

We duplicate this layer several times, adjust the size and position of each copy, as shown below:

Merge duplicated layers together (CTRL + E), then duplicate this icicle group twice (CTRL + J) and place the letters in the center and to the right:

Go back to the original text layer and soft eraser (E) remove the extra details of the letter so as to remove hard edges:

Step 4

Merge all layers with icicles into one (CTRL + E), then apply layer styles to it:

Bevel and Emboss (Chamfer and embossing)

Contour (Circuit)

Stroke (Stroke)

Gradient overlay (Gradient overlay)

And we get this effect:

Step 5

Above the texture, add adjustment layers and convert them to clipping masks (CTRL + ALT + G):

Selective color (Selective color correction)

Black and white (Black and white)

We get the following result:

Step 6

Now we add the particle effect to the text. Load in Photoshop the texture Ice-02-by-lilystox. We use Lasso Tool (Lasso) (L) with feather (shading) 30 px to highlight a small area:

Copy (CTRL + C) and paste (CTRL + V) the selected area onto the working document, adjust the size and change the layer blending mode to Overlay (Overlap). Duplicate this layer twice and place copies in different places in the text, as shown below:

We are almost done! Activate the topmost layer on the layers palette and press SHIFT + CTRL + ALT + E to merge all visible layers on the new one. Activate the filter Filter – Liquify (Filter – Plastic) to slightly deform the letter:

Add adjustment layers:

Color balance (Color balance)

Curves (Curves)

And the final result:
