Making text wallpapers in Photoshop

This lesson will teach you how to create “Need for Speed ​​ProStreet” wallpapers, for example, for your desktop. The main task – to teach you to create cool effects.

Materials for the lesson:

Create a new one file (File> New (File> New)) 1920×1200 px / 72 dpi. For the background, choose the asphalt texture from the CGtextures website. Paste it on a new layer and select a function. Free Transform (Free Transform) and convert the texture as shown in the image below (for example, the remaining white markup can be removed with Clone Stamp tool (Stamp), choose a soft brush for it):

Now create a copy of the last layer created and select the tool Move Tool (V), to move the image below until a white stripe appears. Select it with the tool Rectangular marquee tool (M) (Rectangular selection area), right click inside this selection and select Layer via Copy. Delete the layer with the copy of the texture, leaving only a fragment with a white stripe in the upper part of the image (also you can copy the strip to a new layer by pressing the Ctrl + J key combination with the selection area active).

In the central part of the texture we will add the text that we want. Make appropriate adjustments to text fragments and their slopes using the function Free Transform (Free Transformation). I used the font from the dafont site.

For the layers containing text and letters (PRO), we need with the help of a tool Pen tool (P) (Feather) draw a plane filled with color # 222222.

Click the mouse at the bottom of the layers panel on Create new fill or adjustment layer> Curves (Create a new fill layer or adjustment layer> Curves). This layer must be below the text layers.

Using Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (Tool rounded rectangle) With a radius of 10 px, we will create a plane filled with the color # C6E340. It should be located above the letters PRO, but under the word STREET. Take also the tool Direct Selection Tool (A) (Contour Editing) to adjust the tilt effect of the plane and Convert Point tool (Convert Point tool). Erase unwanted points with the tool Delete Anchor Point Tool.

Apply the style shown below: Blending Options> Outer Glow (Blending Options> Outer Glow)

Then, download from the archive a number of ready-made brushes for Adobe Photoshop, called grunge. Create a new layer and apply a standard brush to prepare a colored background behind the created text. Color for the brush select # CCD341. This layer should be located above the dark plane of the letters PRO, but below the test layers:

Click the mouse at the bottom of the layers panel on Add a mask (Add mask) and select some grunge brush, black will be used to erase the green text background.

Install Blend mode (Blend Mode) on Color Dodge (Brightening Basics):

Let’s apply the grunge effect to the word PRO now. Create a new layer and select the grunge brush. The brushes must be gray and the layer must be above the letters PRO.

Apply the following parameters to this layer: Fill (Fill) 12% (approx. This parameter is in the layers panel next to the options for transparency and blending modes):

Hold the Alt key and left-click between the layer with the grunge effect and the layer containing the letters PRO on the layers panel:

Create a new layer and select the grunge brush. Now the brushes should be white. Place this layer under text layers and planes.

Left click at the bottom of the layers panel Create new fill or adjustment layer> Hue /Saturation (Create a new fill layer or adjustment layer> Hue / Saturation). Place this layer under the green plane layer, under the word Street.

Left click at the bottom of the layers panel Add a Mask , To use a standard black brush on it, erase the areas on the left side, on the right side and in the upper part.

Create a new layer and use the standard white brush to lengthen the letter S.

Using gray grunge brushes on the new layer try to add more grunge effect.

Create a new layer and add a few green elements to it containing the same grunge effect (Opacity 50%) using grunge brushes.

Try to draw next to the letters PRO a crown of color # B5D244. To begin with, we will depict simple elements with sharp corners using a tool. Pen tool (P) (Feather). Then press the Shift key, selecting the tool Ellipse Tool (U) (Oval), to add small circles. Now also press the Shift key, while applying the tool Pen tool (P) (Pen), to add a rhombus to the top (approx. Holding the Shift key while drawing allows us to achieve perfectly smooth shapes).

Click the mouse, staying on this layer, by Add a mask (Add mask) and select a standard black brush (hold Shift) to draw lines and cut several holes in circles and a diamond.

Create a copy of the crown layer by removing the layer mask from the copy. Change the color of this layer to black. Using the tool Free Transform (Free Transform), increase the crown, this layer should be under the original layer with the crown.

While staying on this layer, click at the bottom of the layers panel to Add a mask (Add mask) and select a standard black brush to erase the areas covering the letters Pro.

Set this layer to Fill to 46%.
